Wired: Resident Evil Degeneration Review

I just want to know if she has some clause in all of her movie contracts that she needs to have super-powers; Fifth Element, Ultraviolet, all three RE movies. I've never seen her play a regular girl... Or at least she isn't in any of her movies I've seen.

Watch Dummy, its a pretty good film.

I almost threw a soda at the screen. This was hor-ee-bole. I'm talking gouge your eyes out bad. They butchered Leon almost as bad as 4kids butchered Monkey D. Luffy. It's times like these that I hope Mikami really did cut off his head. Do NOT spend money on this even if you've beaten RE1-4 over 4 dozen times like me because it still doesn't help the movie suck less.

No they didn't, he was way better than the goofy hick he was in re4. "Your right hand comes off?" He's much more like he was in re2, only more experienced. The film was great.

I wouldn't describe Leon as a goofy hick

goofy hick?

You should watch .45. Getting fucked from behind by a guy named Big Al. Only superpower she has there is making her nipples erect to extreme sizes.
I love that film.

Watched it this morning. It wasn't bad and I will spend money on the Blu Ray release. It was really entertaining if you're into the RE mythos although, once again, Capcom failed to capitalize on some key points.

i watched the first five (ten?) minutes on Fileplanet. i liked what i saw as a fan of the series. goofy stupid stuff. like Resident Evil cutscenes. it's as well written and animated as the cutscenes in the recent games. that wouldn't pass for the vast majority of people looking for an entertaining stand alone horror movie, but like i said, fan of the games.

also, yeah, if you haven't heard the commentary track on the first movie, consider this another recommendation for it. it's insane. it's hilarious. it's legendary.

my favourite moment is this...

so we're actually going to watch the whole movie?

*awkward pause*

great!

You're entitled to you're opinion and all but you can't be serious. Leon was a damn robot in that movie and showed no emotion what-so-ever. He had the same robotic nonhuman facial expression throughout the entire movie and stood perfectly perpendicular when not running around. Nothing made sense in this movie and the plot was horrible.

Not to completely shift the subject, but dear god people, go pick up the Soundtrack to Advent Children. Mingled with the action sequences, the music easily made the movie great.

And I've seen it a couple times. There's not much to grasp and understand. I haven't even played the games and I understand it.

You have to be pretty clueless if you couldn't understand the plot in this movie.

And anyone complaining about the story and dialogue needs to be thoroughly laughed at. Where have you been the past 12 years?

If you actually know the plot to RE you'll see how it ties in. And the way they didn't have TriCell as generic evil coorporation was great.

Ignoring the wooden animation, which was terrible.

It wasn't anywhere near as bad as the reviews made it sound.

The plot was fine, but there were a few contrived scenes and some crappy dialog.
Leon's face was the worst thing about it.

He is a government professional who survived an entire city infested with zombies, was assigned to protect the president's family and blew centipede-humans and giant tentacle parasites to smithereens. What did you expect him to do? Falling down on his knees at some point in the movie and crying about all the victims? Come-on.

Saw it last night. Not the greatest film ever, but as a fan of Resident Evil, I enjoyed it.

Small spoilers

Could have used more zombies in it though. They are only in the first half of the movie at the airport. You then have that Gvirus flunky the rest of the time.

Harsh words.

If you are remotely even a fan of the series, you will appreciate this more than the Jovobitch triloshit movies.

Sure, plot and dialogue is sub-standard, but it's always been like that with Resident Evil games, this CG movie is no different. I've said this before and I will say it again, it's essentially watching the cutscenes if this was actually a video game. In fact, I wish it was Resident Evil 4.5, it would have been fun.

How much is the Bluray in the US? In Japan, its just a tad bit expensive to justify the purchase.

saw this. absolutely terrible.

unexciting check
odd/ugly cg check
awful characterisations check
weaksauce plot check

the thing about this that really annoyed me was that

claire redfield, at the start when the outbreak was happening, didn't take charge, grab a weapon and start shooting. As if!

Also absolutely hated that this long after all the incidents, that the SRT team didn't act like real tactical agents. The woman running off by herself when they got into the airport, not shooting in the head when told by Leon..etc etc is just so annoying.

too many bizarre characterisation gaffes.

and I absolutely hate it when character designers feel the need to give female characters THAT mole. ew ew ew ew ew.

in comparison, the deadspace 2D/cel art movie was GREAT!

Pretty similar to my thoughts on the matter. I went in expecting something cheesy and terrible, and this was both of those things... but I still had fun watching it. If you've enjoyed the campy plot of the games for the last decade or so, you'll enjoy this because it's more of the same.

I second the notion that Leon wasn't "fun" enough though. He was way too robotic and I really enjoyed how much of a corny smartass he was in RE4.

And
no Wesker
was pretty disappointing. I was hoping for a not so shocking reveal near the end, helping set up RE5 a bit better. No mention of
Las Plagas
either which was kind of odd I thought.

Don't forget she has played Jean d'Arc too. Also a supernatural. :lol

I love Milla though. I think she's beautiful.

This movie has it all. Horrible CGI, bad voice over, underwater kiss scene, an annoying brat that you just wish would end up dead, mind numbing dilouges, lol-worthy plot and cheese levels OVER 9000!. So yeah, it falls into the "So bad, it's awesome" category. I expected nothing less :lol

Well hell that seals it. I'm getting the Blu-Ray!

i watched this. it will be mildly entertaining to any resident evil fan and its way better than the resident evil films with milia jovovich. am i the only one who hates her? whenever i see her i just sense large amounts of smug and then she sleeps with the director so her character can have anime powers.

god i hate her so much.

Saw this today, thought it was fine for what it is, a cheesy fanservice videogame movie.
Leon and Claire were very much in character. I love how cold, professional, serious, in control Leon is. It's good to see these characters change with the years.
It was also explained how Claire went a different route then her brother Chris and Leon, who are both fighters and constantly doing missions. And the story expands the RE timeline nicely, giving us a little bit more info on that verse.
This movie was exactly what i had expected as a RE fan.

The RE films with jovovich - had to do its take via artisit impressions but the "kick the dog sequence + elevator sequence in number one" makes them pretty good viewing. I think they made the right choice by making it NOT just video game story. I like them. Entertaining watching. Very brainless but entertaining

and

much much more watchable then this CG aberration!

no one else was thinking that it was absurd that they dug this massively deep hole that would facilitate the floor plates dropping away?

Can someone explain why people say the animation looks bad? The designs are nice and realistic and in tone with the CG movies of the games. They don't look bland or washed out and people move in a normal manner. The animation quality is fine.

Is there clipping or weird movement when people look in a mirror that I missed? :lol

"it's not Advent Children". which is stupid. I've never heard anyone complain about the Resident Evil game FMVs because they weren't as good as Square's.

Just saw it last night and I actually liked it.

It ties into a lot of the videogame's plots, including RE4 and RE5
I agree that some of the animation can look stiff and it's nowhere near Advent Children's animation but it's ok.

Yeah, I mean they look fine considering they're going for realism as opposed to Advent Children which was going for.....uh emo I guess lol, well clearly something that was not meant to be realistic.

No I understood the plot and that is why I said it was horrible. When I said nothing made sense I was speaking of those certain things that people cringe about because it seems so completely ridiculous or unlikely. For instance the whole "evil senator" who "hates children" and knocks them down towards zombies was a big roll eyes for me. The big tough swat member who you knew was going to die the second you saw him because he was an idiot. How many times did Leon have to tell those elite swat team members that they had to SHOOT THEM IN THE HEAD? Two or three times? Why the hell didn't Leon give his extra gun to claire from the very beginning when he went to rescue her? So many things just didn't make sense at all. And don't get me started on WilPharma.

What the hell are you people complaining about?

The entire thing was was massive RE cutscene!

It was exactly like 5 Resident Evil games thrown into one!

It had crappy dialogue - Like Resident Evil does.

It had over the top action scenes which made no sense - like Resident Evil does.

It had zombies and monsters - Like Resident Evil does.

It had a nonsensical plot - Like Resident Evil does.

IT WAS AWESOME.

Honestly, if it wasn't like a cutscene (and the game) I would just be pissed off.

Also in fairness to the actors I don't think the voice acting is bad per say in terms of voice work.

It's great fan service if your a fan of the series (and not just a recent fan of 4 and UC). 3/10 in terms of overall movie quality if you compare it to all other films? Probably.

It's about 25 USD from Amazon. That's a pretty good deal for a new Blu-ray.
