Witch Beam dev: PS4s GPU makes it "The Most Powerful Console In The World"

Couldn't I also say that the Wii U is currently the most powerful console on the market?

If only that were proven without a shadow of a doubt with the games it has to exhibit such a claim.

Then again, there are a few games which look pretty good but aren't out yet.

Yep.

reminds me of gauntlet...

sadly no better gifs available.

Well yeah obviously. Irregardless of it's actual specs you would only have to be like a single percentage over all the competition to become THE MOST POWERFUL CONSOLE IN THE WORLD !!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!111111111111!!!!!.

The game gifs look fun :)

Lol "in the world"

It's a 2 horse race for that title, you know that right? Not up mention we've technically known this for over six months.

I can't even comprehend what's going on in those gifs. Whoa.

It's one of those situations where looking from a passive stand you think it's chaotic and unintelligible but playing it you'll be more comfortable. And the game is not that hectic all the time the action ramps up gradually to those moments. And Sycle, on my MacBook the demo run great, so the game engine/performance has great scalabilty too. Congrats! ;)

THIS. LOOKS. AMAZING.

Anyone else reminded on Matrix Revolutions Zion Battle with the last 2 gifs?

Holy crap this looks awesome!! Day one for me....who ever posted about the ground textures is right, just clean those up and its perfect in my opinion!!

Gpu might be the most powerful, but the system isn't balanced and gddr5 is uncomfortable. And of course xbox one has a more powerful cpu

Do you know what steam is?

are psn/xbl games not console games ?

I do, but it's not what I asked.

Obviously they'll have to play physical media as well. I'm just curious as to what the disc based titles Steambox will play are all going to say in the top left corner of the box... y'know... where the platform name is stated.

how? and dont state the beta hardware being just pc's because thats how both the consoles started out too and you would say "they arent real consoles" would you?

If I havent got it wrong they will be PCs, running steamOS designed for the living room. They will come in multiple hardware setups and will be upgradeable, and will come out with new renditions pretty often (compared to consoles). Consoles are closed boxes with locked down hardware. only running software published for said hardwar, and have a lifecycle of 5 - 7 years- At best they are hybrids.

What's the difference though? The situation is what it is so you're statement really is like the air we breath, it's nothing. Make no mistake, I'm not insulting you but the situation is what it is. I see no reason to downplay anything just because there are only 2 real competitive next gen players.

That being said, we know the PS4 is more powerful and by a good margin despite the weekly PRLeadbetter piece.
It's more that we all know and it seems like a pretty small thing to brag about.

I'm glad it's more powerful, and I've got it preordered, but this generation feels like it's even less about the technology than ever before. PCs have always been better by launch, but two years ago BF3 looked way better than KZ does, I think neither of them are really stretching themselves. One is better, but with any two systems, that has to be the case.

There's been a lot of talk about how the PS4 was designed for games, and the XBO for media, or whatever, but I don't think that's the case. They just chose divergent pathways to providing a very developer friendly machine. Neither of them seemed to have been gunning directly for 'the most powerful console'.

It felt like an interesting discussion point this generation, because it was two very very different systems, which ultimately seemed similarly capable, but this time it's the same basic architecture, one is just clearly better.

You damn skippy. I dont know what game that is but my god i want it so bad. If this is the level of awesomeness the indies are cooking up for PS4 then my god i cant wait to see what other games awaits.

Yeah I'm one of the devs (not the one quoted in that article, that's Paz ;) )

I'm the programmer, so I guess I'll have to take the knocks against our technical prowess (sorry! I'm trying my best!) but to be fair we are a tiny indie dev talking about stuff from our perspective.

You are amazing. More power to you and your team. Give us that 60fps 1080p goodness.

we can turn on every visual flourish we want while keeping a smooth & responsive 60fps. We’re focused on every version running at 60fps including Vita, frame rate is king.”

I agree that framerate is VERY important. Lets be honest here, the additional power that PS4's GPU has does not make it more capable of 60fps than any other console, from any generation of 3D polygon pushing consoles. It's upto the developer.

So we are not allowed to shit on games anymore on the forum?

I think it depends on context. The post in question was clearly designed to question the validity of the devs capability to make a comment on specs using their game as an example - which is plain stupid and I guess Bish as a developer could easily see it as an unwarranted slur and one driven by a bias for a particular console to boot.

Shitting on games that are bad or have issues I'm sure will remain fine - I doubt Bish would ban anyone having a go at Lair or Haze (to pick on two Sony examples) or some of the initial Ryse stuff (to pick on MS) which did look pretty iffy.

In short if the criticism / joking is warranted then fine : but if you're unfairly criticizing a dev to push a biased agenda then I'd be careful.

Yes it does, it means you can do more graphical shit while maintaining high and stable FPS.

Yes its up to the developer to make the decision of 30 or 60 FPS but having a more powerful GPU does give developers more options to pick from. Instead of making huge compromises off the bat, there's more wiggle room where graphical effects can be subtly turned down for better frame rate rather than, say, shifting the resolution from 1080P to 720P.
