With a decent PC, is there a good reason to own an Xbox one?

Sunset Overdrive...

...but really, no. Just enjoy Quantum Break coming to Steam and Forza Horizon 3 hitting the Windows 10 store.

If you want gaming on a comfy couch, simple plug and play, free console copy come with cross buy, that's a reason to own Xbox one.
Think Xbox one a HTPC with exclusive windows store, no steam and everything.

What makes it even stranger to me is MS will have at least 3 different SKUs of the Xbox One.

You'd think they'd add features to the consoles to make them appealling and differentiated from PCs.

Why even get an Xbox One when you have to pay for online? Makes no sense.

With Xbox Play Anywhere, not really, and I'm loving more first party games on XB1 than PS4.

If this continues on Scorpio, I'll just invest in a new gaming PC.

Because AAA third party games aren't cross play and people would like to play with their friends who play on console.

I find it a bit amazing that this always seems to go over the heads of people here considering it's also a big reason why people are buying PS4s too. Consoles would literally be doomed if the majority of people actually found games being available on PC too as a negative.

Yup. Games like COD and GTA drive console sales, despite also being available on PC.

Depends if you have friends that only play on Xbox . I know I love playing madden on Xbox and until it comes to PC I cant get rid of my Xbox

Depending on the games you play, you don't really need a console at all if you have a decent PC.
Depending on the games you play. For example if you like to play super Mario 3D world, or monster hunter 4....destiny.....or bloodborne or you get this idea. Any game you can't play on PC. Etc etc. Pretty sure op already established his situation and this post seems kind of....irrelevant

I have a family who all like games and netflix so it's good to have options. A gaming pc(and ps4) in my office, One S in the living room, Xbone(and wii u) in the kids play room anyone can use anytime beats one machine everyone has to share.

There will ALWAYS be a larger pool of players to play against and with when you play on Xbox. Also convenience... Just start the box and play. No hassle with driver errors etc =)

Absolutely, for other members of the household. I for one am going to have my XB1 be the community gaming device for the kids and friends and they will be able to play all of my games and vice versa. While the PC will remain mine and only mine, MwaHaHAha!

Wait and see, I think it all depends on the port optimization/quality of the Xbox One Anywhere titles. I mean, we've seen demos of them already but I don't think it's super safe to assume that they'll be handled well -- games like Batman: Arkham Knight from last year kind of go to exemplify that early marketing footage that is allegedly running on PC probably isn't to be 100% trusted, and I think that applies especially to Microsoft titles since this is part of a big initiative to make Microsoft's general gaming presence on PC more exclusive to their own store platform, so of course it seems like they're going to try and control the narrative as much as they can... But actual historical precedent with Microsoft's ports, both in this actual generation and in the past, hasn't been rosy.

I'd like them to nail it this time around, but just wait and see.

I haven't been able to find one, no. The few console exclusives I had interest in are on or coming to PC. Except maybe Scalebound? Not sure what's going on there. But one unreleased game isn't enough to give me any interest in getting a xbone.

They're suffering from their self destructive dismantling of their first party studios a couple of years back.

A Win10 HTPC with the ability to play 360 games and the occasional exclusive--like one poster alluded to--is exactly what I use the box as and find it to be amazing at it.

Once emulators take off as universal apps, I have a feeling the eventual redux of this thread will be a different story

Halo 5 also has some of the best MP of any fps on the market.

I've been thinking about getting one recently. I like having a console in the living room for multiplayer stuff, and I think the Xbox One S controller is a lot better than the PS4 controller. Already have a Wii U there.

PC gaming on a TV comes with a lot of jank, in my experience. I'd rather have something designed from the ground up for a TV. Occasionally when trying to play multiplayer games on a TV using the PC, there will be some issues with the cursor remaining on the screen, controllers not connecting properly, having to remap buttons, etc. It's a lot of small things that add up for me.

Not anymore.

I actually packed my Xbox One away a few weeks back as there was no longer a need to have it taking up space (and it is a lot of space).

Strangely enough I unpacked it and set it up again 2 days ago to play a little Forza Horizon 2. Once FH3 hits I don't think it will ever see the light of day again.

However....what I did realise whilst posting this is I could drop it into the living room/spare room and have it for the Play Anywhere games. Might be rarely used but you never know.

If you don't already own one though.....I'd say there is very little point in picking one up if your PC is of reasonable standard.

I unloaded our xbox ones when I heard about the S and exclusives hitting PC, now the catch for me will be if I can actually gameshare co-op with my wife like we could with the xbox ones, otherwise this might be a costly mistake having to get two of everything just to play together.

You can find a used one w/ controller/hookups for like $170 now. So that's kinda cool for what it is I guess.

But I'm not really fond of approaching a hypothetical consumer as one completely void of any preference or previous investment, since that's not really how purchasing decisions are made most of the time, so these topics are pretty garbo imo.

I recently upgrade my GPU to a GTX 1060, but I still prefer playing on my XB1. I just like the comfort and ease of use that comes with a consoles. I downloaded the BF1 beta on both, but I have put substantially more time into the game on the XB1 simply because I prefer playing with a controller on the couch, and that isn't a game where that is really a viable option. Just like in the past, the PC will remain my WoW box, and the Xbox will be there for everything else.

I don't even have a capable PC, and the only reason I got an xbox is Forza Horizon franchise. So my answer is no, it' s not worth it imo. I might build a desktop Pac next year or get a beefy laptop and then will sell my xbone.

My PC is already a comfy couch setup so there I even less reason for me. My Xbone is gathering dust and I'm not getting the S even though it's about as good of a revision I've seen.

Up to you I suppose. I have an expensive gaming rig but I only use it to play PC games like city builders and strategy games. Most of my time is spent on my XB1 simply because I find it more relaxing to play in a contained, simple environment where I can use a controller without being judged.

With Xbox One's exclusives being not really exclusives as one by one they're all coming to Steam or Windows 10 anyway, I fail to see why one would want an Xbox One with a semi-decent PC.

If you buy a cross platform game on XB1 can you play online with the same console on PC?

Eg if I buy Gears 4 digital on my XB1 can I redeem it on my PC and co-op it with my friend using both my console and PC or is it tied to one account so only one can play at a time?

Nobody wants to use windows 10's store. Which isn't entirely untrue.

So we're pretending Steam doesn't exist and that OP's PS4 isn't sporting a much larger community than Xbone?
Who gives a fuck about windows store outside exclusives anyway? Oo

Just update hassle, which ironically takes longer to download and install than any driver update I'm not forced to use before playing on PC.

Absolutely. Doesn't hurt to have both. I game primarily on my pc and it sucks that I don't play with my console friends anymore. Now with Xbox play anywhere, I can play with them regardless as I get a free copy. The backward compatibility is an excellent feature and I regularly get on blops 2 and rdr to get some blops2 and rdr multi-player in. I see no reason not to have both.

Honestly unless you want the scant few games that stay exclusive or really like achievements not really. For my purposes I quite like my Xbox One and prefer it to building a similar spec PC.

Is backwards compatibility worth the price of an Xbox one to you?

If not, don't bother. It's the only reason I'm keeping mine around to be honest.

if you have a decent PC, keep Windows 7/8.1, Linux or whatever.

Only if you are that keen to upgrade to W10 for the Store exclusives, should you get an XB1. Less hassle than using the Store. W10 is a very problematic and annoying OS.

If it wasn't for Halo 5 my Xbox One wouldn't have been touched for over a year. If you're a huge Halo fan you still need it for MCC and 5 (which you said you're not) otherwise it's a completely obsolete console for anyone with a decent gaming rig.
