With a new COD out, lets reminisce about MW2!

It's the craziest COD game. I went to the midnight release for it and there were people in line a block away. The store handed out the first copies to 4 cops. There were some super shady people in the parking lot, and I feared for my life as I walked home with it. I think I played it for 12 hours that first night. That feeling when you dropped a predator missle hasn't been rivaled in any of the later games, that's for sure.

It never affected me. Noob tubing is something that's exaggerated; here and there I'd get blown up - who cares.

From my 25 days or so of play time, the nuke wasn't used that often against me. It was a ton of fun getting it though. Overall, the impact was minimal with the nuke.

I kept having games where people would boost for it.

My friends and I would get together, drink and play it for hours regularly.

Why MW2???

We all know what the GOAT was.

MW2 was such a cluster-fuck.

agreed

A completely unbalanced, mod-infested, frustrating mess.

But holy FUCK did I have a ton of fun playing it. I definitely had more laughs playing this game with friends than just about any other. Probably even more so than Halo 3.

Loved MW2. Everything felt perfect on the surface. Yeah the game was full of bullshit but honestly, that's what made the game really fun. Throw friends into the mix and it's the best multiplayer experience I've ever had. Blops was great too but towards the end of its life the lag was getting unbearable and all the hit markers that didn't kill just pushed me more towards MW2

Favourite COD and perhaps online experience ever. Had so so so much fun playing with my school friends online......very grateful fro the memories.

The hype leading up to MW2 was insane.. my friends and I played the hell out of COD4 and WaW.. I remember going to Gamestop for the midnight release.. getting a shit ton (metric) of Del Taco food on the way home and gaming until like 7AM when I finally took a nap.. ahhh.

When the dust settled though, I felt like there was WAYYY too much shit going on in MW2, and only played through Christmastime before Mass Effect 2 and Battlefield Bad Company 2 sucked me away..

Marathon Pro
Commando Pro
Lightweight Pro
Care package sprinting

I ran around stabbing people left and right, 30 and 8 easily just knifing after those first three kills. Once they patched care package sprinting I cut back on playing majorly.

I remember loving Modern Warfare and playing that for 2 years solid (still do now and again on PC). I enjoyed Treyarchs World At War as well but this was the sequel I was waiting for. I waited excitedly outside my local game shop at midnight on the night of release of Modern Warfare 2 with my friends, we all got our copies and went straight back home to play it.

Over the next few months we played and in the end I had to stop playing it, I fucking hated it. I wondered 'how did they fuck this up so badly ?' I hated the maps (with the exception of the airport one), despised the killstreaks and I felt like they had completely fucked the franchise in a direction I couldn't stand. COD4 was the perfect gun on gun multiplayer with a little bit of spice, MW2 just pissed all over that for me and in some ways I still consider it the worst of the lot for what it did to a franchise I loved so dearly. (even if MW3 and Ghosts actually are worse games). The old Infinity Ward/Respawn guys are obviously very talented and Titanfall is a fantastic game, but MW2 is just something I did not enjoy at all. That's why when people talking about the 'talent leaving' I kind of shake my head as the 'downfall' started with MW2 for me. I also hated how they handled the PC release of MW2 as well, not supporting dedicated servers was the stupidest thing they ever did.

Thankfully BLOPS1 came out the next year and that's still my favourite after COD4. I really like what Treyarch have done with the series given the time and look forward to seeing what they do next year with a 3 year dev cycle. I look forward to Titanfall 2 as well :)

I remember the wasteland glitch where people would hide under the map. Was near one of the headquarters locations.

Fun times.

No, just... no. We all know MW1 had that one fantastic sniper level in Pripyat but I'm sorry one level isn't enough to make it the best. Overall the campaign in MW2 was way better and the multiplayer was VASTLY superior in almost every way, particularly the great and varied maps. Also MW2 had amazing co-op via Spec-Ops. Spec-Ops on MW2 was one of my favorite co-op experiences of last gen, second only to Portal 2 in my mind. Me and my friend had a blast getting all 69 stars. Not like the lazy shitty survival "co-op" modes they put in recent CoD games.

MW2 was terrible. BO1/2 are the best imo with COD4 right behind. I think people rank COD4 due to nostalgia but if you look back it wasn't that great.

Why reminisce about the worst game in the series?

Because opinions - how do they work?

To many of us it was a fantastic multiplayer experience. I don't need a shooter to be balanced to considered fun. Also, I don't care how balanced a shooter is, if the maps suck I won't play it. As far as I know, COD4 and MW2 had the best maps in the series. I never got bored of them. Just like Halo 2 had the best maps that never got boring. To me, maps are an INTEGRAL part of any good shooter.

Loved it for the first few days, but then everybody started unlocking all the OP crap, and it just became unpleasant.

It was the pinnacle of everything good about COD, and everything bad.

Had Infinity Ward not imploded, I would imagine we wouldn't have ended up with the multiplayer we did. Post launch, there were some serious issues and imbalances. I know we got some post-launch support, but I recall it being a drip feed of tweaks, rather than proper attention to what needed fixing.

A developer just posted earlier about how MS held up everything in certification, unfortunately.

Too much fun. I miss the days when Cold Blooded Pro (or its equivalent) was actually useful...

I love Cold Blooded - the only thing I used. Playing stealth was such a joy.

They shouldn't have removed stopping power. Trading damage for stealth actually had a certain degree of balance behind it. It would stopped everyone using Ghost Pro/equivalent in the future CODs as well...

I love running around with the move faster, never run out of sprint and Commando perks. It really felt like you were a Xenomorph or something.

Not sure how you can ignore the many, many issues with the balancing.

And MW2's single player ended with a copy-paste of MW1's lol.

Only thing MW2 right was the co-op

Yeah lets remember MW2 where the franchise fell over and began rolling about and playing in it's own shit.

Yeah good times had by all.

LOVED Call of Duty MW2. It came out back when most of my friends at the time had Xbox Live, so I always had a big group to play with. I loved the craziness. COD4 is a fantastic FPS, no doubt, but I love how MW2 just took everything from COD4 and ramped it up.

To be fair, MW2 could be a fun game, if you weren't trying to actually play a GOOD game.

If you recognized it's horrible balance and broken systems, it could provide entertainment, the same way Superman 64 could provide entertainment.

Miss this game.

Titanfall always felt like an extension of this one.

I think the COD series went sour after Activision fired the OG Infinity Ward team as I can't really see how the current and recent iterations of COD MP look interesting at all.

Ha, the more you know.

I still maintain the case between IW and Activision would have had a negative effect on post-launch support and long term vision of the title. How could it not? Maybe it's just an easy go-to excuse?

Either way, there were enough awfully imbalanced perks, kill streaks and exploits that were utterly destructive to the game to think that that's what they originally had hoped for. Their vision was surely something greater?

Maybe it's denial; I wanted the sequel to COD4 to be everything I had hoped for. There were issues with COD4, and it needed to grow to develop, but with how the series ended up evolving, it's really hard not to the look back to MW1 and think that that's when it was at it's best.

The single player was a rush.

Pulling the knife out of finish Shepard was amazing.

And all the memes that came out of him and Foley saying "Ramieriz!" were good, too.

Yeah, people seem to gloss over MW2 actually having one hell of a good plot. The pacing wasn't as well done as the first game, but as a whole, the first game felt like the first act and the second game the second act. Very well put together before Infinity Ward fell apart. I miss what MW3 could have been.

MW2 was amazing, both single-player and multiplayer. The campaign is actually one of my favorite single-player campaigns ever, with excellent music, fantastic setpieces, and great characters.

Multiplayer had its lows, but the highs have never been replicated. MW2 is my game of the generation, no doubt.

Let's not because MW2 was shite compared to CoD4 and BO2.

The only good thing about MW2 was Zimmer and Balfe's soundtrack, which was freaking amazing.

this shit always kills me lol

MW2 problem was that it basically added a bunch of things without taking into an account of how they would all balance out. It was more of a "it only takes one apple to spoil the bunch" that holds it back in the long run. IW hopefully would have patched it if it wasnt for the whole fallout. At the same time I remember how silent they were with patches on CoD4 so I would know not to expect much.

As much as I like it, however....I blame it, and some of the youtubers out there, for pushing the K/D, sit in the corner and just wait, obsession. The amount of tools it gave people to exploit, coupled with the certain maps that were a bit too big were an overload. The game was fun but it was honestly toxic

I miss having throwing knifes in the newest CoD.

Loved MW2 though. Most fun I've ever had online. It was so addicting. I think I even liked it more than CoD4.

I think the UMP was my favorite gun. I would have dead silence, slight of hand and lightweight on.

Good times... good times.

Also, the new double-jump thing is annoying.

How is the loss of dedicated servers, server browser, mod tools that led to promod, player created maps, fov settings a vastly better experience on the pc. Only reason why I own a copy of mw2 on pc was that a friend bought 2 copies, and I bought a copy for a rec program to use on ps3

Akimbo 1887s was the most hilarious thing I've ever used in all CoD.

Even after patched, just by equipping FMJ will make those 1887s the best weapon in the game.
