With Nintendo getting retail titles on the eShop, will you go digital going forward?

If digital games could be shared on a single account then yes, but not when it's tied to a system. We have more than one 3DS in the house.

That's a good point. I could see Nintendo not having an account system for the simple fact you could have two 3DS and only need to buy a game like MK7 only once.

I can see this being a deal with parents. You'll need to buy one DD retail game and download them to multiple 3DSes.

Retail. Zero reason to buy it digital since it's at the same price and you can't resell it.

I can think of a few.

- No need to go to a store/get it delivered
- No plastic cluttering up your place
- No need to change game cards
- Environment friendly

I'll buy the download codes from retailers. That way I can get discounts that I would typically get with retail games but still have them in digital form to always have with me.

Yes. Retail games in the country I live in cost more than in most European countries and are often delayed. Also I'm tired of games occupying so much space.

There is not a fucking chance I'd trust Nintendo with my purchases. I've been burned on the Wii and since then I've sworn not to buy any digital games on a Nintendo system until they sort themselves out. Absolutely pathetic.

And this is coming from someone who goes digitally wherever humanly possible - I don't own any CDs and I'm working on my movies and books next. I'd digitise my cock if I could reprint it whenever I needed to bring it out of archive (rarely).

No, retail titles are much cheaper unless a title goes out of print. Sky Crawlers for 2.99€? Punch-Out Wii for 2.99€? Doubt we'd get such deals.

Unless we're just talking day 1 purchases, none of that are good enough reasons to spend more money. Because those games are going to keep being full price on a Nintendo online system when they're $15 everywhere else.

Environment friendly. That's a good point but it's still a total financial loss if you don't want to keep the product. They should have at least an incentive to buy digital. Like 10€ cheaper.

I always go physical when there is the option, except for PSP (I hate UMDs)

I've always wonder. PSP games simply run better when they're in their digital form right? The lack of loading that results from reading from the disc? I got seriously turned off early one do to playing The Sims when I got my PSP all those years ago. Always wondered if things got better.

Nintendo does need to clarify their stance on redownloading though before they start doing this, especially if your system break.

Sony get the digital selling point, making sales that put a lot of digital games below the average retail price.

But I don't think that Nintendo will do the same.

not with store specific discounts on digital sales.

Well yeah it is my opinion. It's just weird seeing someone who's ok with spending twice the price just because they're lazy or don't want to hurt the environment.

Day 1 purchases are different but I would still take physical because the chances that I'll want to keep 3DS games are lower than PC. I'm pretty much full digital on PC, but thankfully I usually end up paying less than physical ($35 sleeping dogs? I'll take it!)

Considering how they digital versions of 3DS games will cost at least 50% less than the retail copies we get here, yeah.

If they are much cheaper, then I might buy them more. If they have the same cost, then I may as well buy it on the high-street or online.

I'm absolutely in love with digital on PC, but that's because you can't sell most (retail) PC games anyway and the digital game atleast is really cheap if you look around, wait for Steam sales etc.

I won't by digital on 3DS (or WiiU) though if the price is pretty much the same across retail/digital, as Nintendo's comments seem to indicate. I need a serious discount (say for NSMB 2: 35€ for the retail copy and 25€ (max!) for the digital copy), considering that I can resell the retail copy - and especially in the case of Nintendo games for quite a nice price.

They sell NSMB2 for 39.99. The retail release costs less due to retailers and people receive a pre-order item.

Twice the price is certainly the exception. Rather 5-10 bucks more. And I couldn't care less about 10 bucks here and there.

It depends. For example, if I'll like Animal Crossing so much that I'll desire to buy it, I'll download it since I think it's the kind of game to have always with you.

Games like NSMB2 will remain at the same price point.

I might for certain games, like NSMB2. What I really want though is the ability to transfer the card data onto the system, so you still have a hard copy but don't need to switch out cards. Obviously, this has problems with sharing games with other people, so I wouldn't expect it any time soon.

The idea itself is not a bad one, it works great on the Vita bar the costs associated with the memory cards. Nintendo got that covered but I would say no to them for the time being. A) They need to have a proper account system were I can activate and de-activate at will. B) They need to compete by offering deals more often. They did that not too long ago for the first time.

Since I've already purchased physical copies, it's difficult to change from that. They should have done it when the 3DS got released, but I wouldn't mind switching over if they address the problems mentioned. I feel like Nintendo is still in the middle of experimenting and trying different things out, I don't want to be part of this experiment and will wait until they get the hang of it. Currently I'm reluctant to buy eshop titles and am keeping it with a small number of gems. If only they had a better account system, I'd buy more stuff on their eshop in general.

If anything, I will just buy some nintendo games twice ... DD to actually play, hard copy to own forever. Thats something I would only do with Nintendo stuff, and even then it would have to be something with a lot of replay-ability. Pokemon 3DS for sure will be one of these games.

If they create incentives for me to do so then yes. Lower prices, sales, ect.

If they launch at the exact same price as retail with no price drops or sales then forget it. At least I can sell my retail copies.

For games I don't plan to keep, that have nice pre-order swag, or don't have good StreetPass or SpotPass functionality, I'd rather go physical. The only DD games I want to get for the 3DS are games I want to keep and has good StreetPass/SpotPass functions, or available only through the eShop.

I want all my games available at all times do yes. I just hope they get an account system figured out on 3DS soon.

Not with Nintendo. Their account system is archaic. I lost my 3DS but I have over £20 in my eShop account. They won't give me access to it. Not even if I buy a new 3DS. The only way they'll transfer my account over to a new system is if it was stolen and I have a police crime report number.

They've stolen my money and my Ambassador status is lost forever. Wouldn't dream of buying digital copies of physically available games from Nintendo based on that, and I'd advise others not to either.

For the most part, yes.

I don't enjoy spending the equivalent of $70US on a game, and having to wait a week after everyone else to play it.

I see little reason owning games like Animal Crossing in physical retail, it's much better to have it loaded on the system always. I'll probably go digital for those sorts of things and retail otherwise. I like to collect things.

No but only because of sales/rentals/reselling my games.

I almost never keep a game when I'm done and with bullshit like online passes and such I'd say 90%+ of my gaming comes through redbox or gamefly.

I'm all digital on PC but this is 99% due to steam sales.

You've not kept up with their latest DD plans, have you? Stores can discount the digital product.

(Admittedly, that's the *plan*, and we've yet to see the *reality*, but... it's a start)

I usually go digital if the system in place is good and there is a discount involved.

Steam -> Buy over steam, love it, never had any issues, ever! Love buying slightly older games I missed for sub $10 (they could probably be found cheaper locally but this makes me feel like I'm getting an awesome deal. (Aside from windows live games which should burn a slow painful death)

Blizzard -> I alwasy buy the game in store and link to account (personally my favorite method). I would have bought D3 as a digital copy, but I got 10$ and a steelbook case for buying the physical copy. The one online had no discount...

Sony -> Bought tons of stuff over PSN and love it, unregistering 1 of 5 devices after it breaks is a pain though. (RIP launch PS3 :'( )

Microsoft -> Bought a few XBL arcade titles but nothing beyond that. At the time I couldn't justify buying a full game with limited HDD space. I had the 250gb xbox but still only bought the odd game physically. The autorenewal of XBL had screwed me over and pissed me off so I sold my xbox off.

Nintendo -> Like others stated, I kinda don't trust Nintendo. I haven't bought a single digital thing from them and I don't think I'll start on the 3DS. But I don't know why...

I would buy Digital provided I don't miss out on Club Nintendo points or any goodies in the box.

Then again the interior box art (the little windows of the plastic) of 3D Land and Kid Icarus were quite cool. Are Nintendo still doing them? Like did Mario Tennis have this too?

I never sell my games, and boxes are just boxes that get stacked in a closet. Sure seeing a physical collection is nice, it's also nice to not have a ton of shit in my house taking up space. So I'll most likely being going all digital.

Even with Animal Crossing it's largely going to depend how redownloading is handled in the future do to not having an account system in place. The safe bet is always with the physical game when it comes to Nintendo do to how their online system works. It's why I don't have any Wii Virtual Console or WiiWare games. I took chances with the eShop but have been becoming wary. I've been very selective already and have limited myself to about 6 purchases so far because of that. Have been thinking of not making anymore until NSMB2 comes out. Maybe they'll clarify things then.
