Women + Internet model photographers = bad idea these days?

Stop looking on craigslist.
.
First thing I thought of. The last person I knew who was dabbling in that as a "model"... was a girl also looking to be paid for sex because she had hit some hard times. I think there is an 95/5 ratio on Craigslist, specifically, of people looking for sex stuff, to the people really looking to do classy photographs. I think of "model" as a pseudonym for prostitution. When she put an ad up as a model, nearly all of the responses hinted right away that they were looking for sex. With most of them, in her words, she'd have been lucky to have found a guy with even so much as a flip phone with a camera on the back of it.

Again, that's with the Craigslist lens.

In the end she found an old guy who
did in fact take pictures of her to satisfy a fetish of his, but he masturbated while doing it, and paid her to watch and he eventually bought her a 5 series BMW.

But first, you gotta make her happy

But yeah, craigslist ain't a place to look for something like that. Only perverts out there.
Best would be - as someone already said - to go to a professional website.

There are lots of creeps on Model Mayhem. There are lots of creeps on Craigslist. There are great people with legit work posting ads on both sites. You can post ads on either site for free, so you're bound to find weirdos here and there. You just have to talk a lot with the photographer beforehand, use your judgment, and get references. At this point, there is no website for connecting models and photographers that allows user feedback on experiences.

The best way for her to find good people to work with is to make friends with other models and ask them if they know of good, legit photographers. Good photographers can also recommend other good photographers.

This is a small world, whatever city you're in, and word travels fast. The good people will generally know about each other.

I've been on ModelMayhem for about 5 years as a photographer. I'd suggest your fiance check the forums to get a feeling for the place:

(there are also many links to FAQs in the top-most sub-forum stickies).

Overall it's mostly OK, common sense as usual helps a lot...

I suppose an easy way to test this out is to tell her to ask the dude if you can tag along for the photo session.

If he's not a creep his reply should just be a, "Sure thing!" and nothing more.
