Wonder Woman (DCCU) Review Thread (RT 93%)

I still think she coud've gone for the pixie cut look, but I guess they wanted to do that classic 60s look too.

She needed very long hair to play Fantine. They could have gone with a wig or extensions but everyone wanted the movie to be as a realistic as possible and Fantine shaving her head is a huge scene in les Mis.

97% LOOOOOOOOOOOOL

I'm so happy. I was praying this wouldn't suck. Thank the Goddess!!

It will end up as the best super hero movie out there :D

How many total reviews are there supposed to be by the end of the week? 150 or so if I remember right?

We're up to 60 now. Out of 60 people, 58 liked the movie.

BvS ended at 27% or something. If Wonder Woman got a negative score for literally every review from now until the 150th one, she'd still score better than BvS.

Not sure why people are so shocked that this is good, the early screening reactions were universally positive.

That said, 97% is really high. I figured itd be closer to high 80s.

As if I didn't dislike Les Mis enough.

Constantine is secretly the best comic flick

Lololol.

No. That movie holds the GAF crown for currently most overrated comic book movie. I missed it when it was out and had to force myself not to turn it off when I finally watched it a few months ago for the first time, and I NEVER turn off a movie.

First Fury Road, now this!

What's the trend here???

BTW, anyone else feel like you don't see a lot of men leading action movies anymore?????????? Men are people too

I think this is pretty much the score it's going to keep. Reviews don't really swing that hard after so many have already come out

It's at 60, but as many as 300 could be up there by the time all is said and done. That said, I think we're looking at the score staying around 94+ now. Craziness.

When do they lock the score btw? I only reaad that 80 are needed for the 'certified fresh' and 70 %.

They don't ever "lock" the score. Most critics won't be posting reviews past this weekend though. But yeah, once it's past 80 reviews it'll be 'certified fresh'.

Yeah, even in my wildest dreams I didn't expect THAT... it'll drop to probably around 91 when the other 250 reviews pour in.

People were still skeptical because BvS and SS had positive early reactions. However, people didn't notice the difference between fan screenings and press/critic screenings.

Yeah. I feel like short hair on Selina is expected nowadays.

Personally with the DCEU Selina, I'm pulling for an older actresses around Affleck's age to be mob boss Selina with a younger Holly as the second Catwoman.

Lego Batman was sitting at a similar number at this point I think.

We're going to get some boomerang reviews from hobbyist outlet reviewers who are going to see this with the general population and their now inflated expectations.

It's a fun flick.

This is a gentle reminder that Rotten Tomato's operates on a binary score point system. To them, you're review is either positive or it's not. Meaning that if 7 people rate one movie as a 9 or 10/10, with only 3 people thinking it's just okay and give it 5, then that movie is rated 70%. But if they watch another movie they think is enjoyable but average, and all 10 people give it a 6/10, then that movie's RT score is 100%. In other words, a review that is pure 100% adoration and a review that is an "eh, It's okay I guess" are weighed equally.

From what I can tell, the actual degree to which people think WW is positive jumps around. Some people just think it's competent, others just think think it's the best since Dark Knight.

So while the general consensus is that it's good, the praise isn't necessarily all on the extreme side.

There is an average rating score right next to it, which is currently at 7.8. I thought that was the highest ever but was mistaken. Logan is at 7.9 and Avengers at 8.0. So it's still very very high

edit: shiet, TDK is at 8.6. Who the hell is gonna top that

It's got a metascore that's higher than any CBM movie this year, and higher than every MCU flick (not a dig on the MCU, love those movies). The praise is not middling by any stretch of the imagination. I agree though, it'll likely drop a bit still, but it's doing amazing so far.

Also, to be fair to Ayer, folks gotta remember he had six weeks to crank out that Squad screenplay. It sounds like he'll have way more time to hammer away at Sirens to make something much stronger.

That's what I'm hoping for, anyway.

The biggest detriment to Suicide Squad appeared to be the studio executives insisting on being allowed into the editing room and subsequently mutilating the film beyond recognition.

Not entirely sure if it would be right to pin all of that film's failings on Ayer.

The only other Ayer film I've seen (in full) was Fury, which I thought was so-so at best. And what I've seen of some of his other stuff, like End of Watch, Street Kings, and Harsh Times, has looked like edge lord nonsense. So as much as executive meddling and editing room bullshit fucked up that movie even more, I'm not sure there's some genius artistry that was being buried there anyway.
