Wonderful 101 Intro Trailer

you feel like that because the low-poly characters remind you of the PS2 days. i like that, it gives me a nostalgic vibe for a game i never played before. everything outside of those characters is running gorgeous. up-to-date modern effects, high-quality animations in use everywhere.

right now i like the graphics and the concept. the gameplay i haven't paid much attention to. it's kamiya so i'm sure it is great.

That's very helpful... thanks. I rewatched the trailer and I do agree that the environments looks pretty decent. I was fairly focused on the character models first time through. Also am I imagining it or are there no shadows?

OK... cool... well help me understand then. Are you guys actually enjoying the look of the game or do you feel as though the gameplay overshadows the look so much as to make it unimportant? If it's the former, I guess that's just a difference of opinion. If it's the latter, what gameplay elements look like so much fun to you? Again, just trying to understand. I don't own a WiiU yet but I am always looking for an excuse to buy one. :D

It has an endearing cartoon style to it that is set in a world where improbable Super Sentai heroes and monsters come together to do battle in the most stylish and wonderful of ways.

It's got that for-everyone appeal.

Smash reveal for Wonder Red. Calling it.

I think all of the heroes could serve as one character in Smash. There's the whip for grabbing, gun for ranged attacks, jello for shield etc. Or at least Wonder Red could have these abilities at his disposal, he'd be a great addition to Smash.

You do realize that these characters will be really tiny in the actual game. You won't be seeing close-ups like this when you are actually playing it.

I'm in like Flynn on this game.

This brings back the feeling of what videogames were like back in the day and is a breath of fresh air in a market striving for realism.

I played the game at a WiiU event and it's as good as you'd expect a Kamiya game to be.

But googly moogly, these trailers are AWWWWFUL. Who cares about any of this? Why doesn't it have a children's movie narrator?

its also tough to say from that pic.

The actual character shadows are round circles underneath each person. This fits with the comic/cartoon style and allows platinum to achieve 60fps with 101 characters on screen.

So them kids in that picture could indeed have that circle shadow, but its hard to tell when theres a bigger shadow from another object underneath that kid.

edit: if you watch that clip in motion, youll notice theres no shadow on the ball, but a circle like shadow appears from the kid right at the end.

Which is why it should sell.

Many don't think it will but I do.

It's not going to sell a ton but I will make sure to market the hell out of it on Miiverse free of charge.

It's the set-up and presentational values.

The Direct will likely break down the actual gameplay.

You and me both. I've always argued against the notion that this game lacks mass-market appeal. It's got the art style to pull in the younger crowd, it's got the action to interest the hardcore and it's got the tone to entertain everyone. This is to say nothing of the genre appeal, especially in Japan. It just needs to be clear and visible.

Nintendo is pushing this a bit more than I expected them to. I hope they go all the way and make it pay off.

welcome aboard

Thanks. Now that I am with you guys, I do have to say that the trailers did not really represent the coolness of this game very accurately. I hope some future trailers can somehow show off the cool gamepad elements and abilities of your character parties. I wonder how many other people there are like me that just watched the trailers and didn't really get it.

I can't get hyped for this due to the gfx. Doesn't it seem like it should look better? The plastic hair? The jaggies? Ugh. I can't even really look at the gameplay because my eyes hurt looking at it. It feels like a PS2 era game to me. I am not trying to flame here but I thought the WiiU could do more than this. It just feels disappointing to me. Am I alone?

Really? A PS2 game? You're either trolling, or so blind that you shouldn't be allowed to have a drivers license and probably need a seeing eye dog.

I noticed the beginning city is named Blossom City. You can see at least two separate large city in the distance when he punches the school bus.

So im assuming we'll be city hoping. Hopefully they each feel fresh.

Holy fuck, this is definitely one of the most unique and creative games I have ever seen; drop that Wii U price already Nintendo, I am tight on budget this year :(

He has brick eyes.

Do they? I just assumed they were publishing the game, but didn't own the IP itself.

Since it's both funded and published by Nintendo it's safe to assume it's their IP, or at the very least own most of it. They're definitely treating it as one right now.

That and Kamiya and Sakurai are close friends, plus Sakurai's been to Platinum. If Sakurai wanted one of the characters in Smash, that could easily happen.

check craigslist. If new is your thing, you still might be able to find one for cheap. Or at least "like-new"
Basic model goes on sale often, but I want the deluxe model :( I am just feeling bad about not getting the ZombiU model when it went down to $329; that was an amazing deal.

But well, I guess not everyone is going to own the console in the first year; will wait [hopefully, before damaging my wallet]

I agree with you.

I was caught off guard when I first heard and saw the announcement trailer for this but had faith in P* and Kamiya, but it wasn't until that gamespot vid where it clicked with me as well.

This old Ninty direct trailer came close though

OLD WONDERFUL 101 60FPS trailer
