To balance this list, the top 10 worst selling cars of the year (US only) from msnbc

Car - number sold (reason for poor sales...assumed reasons of course)

10. Honda Ridgeline - 6,476 (small payload, small capacity, poor gas mileage)
9. Lincoln MKT - 3,757 (too expensive and ugly)
8. Honda Civic Hybrid - 3,155 (too expensive for 44mpg)
7. Acura TSX Wagon - 2,432 (Amurican's don't like wagons)
6. Mercedes Benz R Class - 1,986 (not what benz buyers want from the brand)
5. Subaru Tribeca - 1,970 (started ugly and became boring, terrible gas mileage, too expensive, not what subaru buyers want)
4. Hyundia Azeria - 1,407 (too old and out of date)
3. Toyota Land Cruiser - 1,226 (too expensive, too close in cost to it's lexus clone, lost it's off road edge)
2. Acura ZDX - 1,220 (too expensive and too ugly)
1. Acura RL - 979 (boring as sin, slow, a non luxury car trying to pass itself off as a premium car)

Ouch @ Acura

Three other close calls
Mazda RX-8 and Cadillac STS (both discontinued so they weren't included)
BMW 550GT (confirmed to have very very low sales but BMW hadn't released this years sales numbers as of the article's publishing , but last year it sold around 2,800)

Some from last years list that didn't make it this year
Smart fortwo
Suzuki SX4
Suzuki Grand Vitara
Suzuki Equator
Toyota Yaris
Mazda Tribute
Scion XD
Porsche Cayman

Well it depends on what you'd want as far as tuning goes. If you want decent power, you're going to need to go FI, and that motor has a ridiculously high CR. You'd need to get some internals done to drop it a bit to put some healthy boost. But if you're getting that pricey, the last of Gen2's boxers supposedly "bolt right in". You will probably only be able to do the standard bolt-on affair with a mild tune at best. I was looking at this car, but it's power is a massive disappointment.

So now it's either the next-gen WRX/STI or Mustang Boss for me, just waiting on the new WRX to show up at the next big JP-show.

I think it depends on the weight. I don't know if it's been confirmed yet but I saw some reports being 2425 pounds while others list it around 2800. If it's 2425 pounds and tossable, it could be an integra-like affordable sport car that makes up for lack of power with being just plain fun to drive. I mean the third gen integra is 2600 pounds and it's a goddamn blast to drive around even in lower spec. 2800 is still pretty damn good, I mean thats how much a s2000 weighs, but it would likely lose a portion of that "goddamn this thing is fun to throw around a corner" feel.
if it's 2425, it should hit 60 in about 5.5 seconds, if it's 2800, about 6.1, which is still a pretty good number.

It didn't help that the TSX Wagon was literally a rebadged Euro-spec Accord wagon. There was little sporty about it.

The focus and fiesta both look great. I am especially impressed with the Fiesta, as it's one of the few cars that I feel look good in obnoxiously neon colours.

I was so pissed I couldn't get the green one :(

Sab but true story:

MEANWHILE, IN BRAZIL

golg123.jpg

Volkswagen Gol

273k units sold in 2011

Standard models:

1.0L VHT 72 hp (76 hp Ethanol) producing 95 Nm (104 Nm Ethanol) @ 3850 rpm - Sells the most
1.6L VHT 101 hp (104 hp Ethanol) producing 154 Nm (156 Nm Ethanol) @ 2500 rpm
No ABS or Airbags
No air conditioning
No hydraulic steering
5 speed manual shift

Now, the price:

1.0, exactly as described (manual shift): R$ 30.380,00 or US$ 16,333
1.0, with air and hidraulic direction (no option for ABS brakes and hydraulic steering!): R$ 35.340,00 or US$ 19,000

1.6, with air, ABS and hydraulic steering (but manual shift): R$ 43.990,00 or US$ 23,650

Yes, that's what we have to offer. I think Brazil has the most expensive cars in the world, and they are shitty as hell compared to other places.

=(

Hey, in Brasil you can still buy the 2nd gen VW Transporter brand new

Actually I think this is awesome

yeah there is, its still a hyundai

Wow, very powerful arguement. We bought a Vericruz. For the price it was a much better deal than anything else and a great vehicle to boot. We'll see how it last through the years with three kids, but the warranty is good.

I'm surprised by the terrible sales of the Civic Hybrid. I realize that the Prius is cheaper, but I still thought this would sell at least 10x better than it is.

I used to sell Acura's and maaaaaaaaaaan, it was so damn hard to sell RL's and ZDX's. I really like both vehicles, but both are hard to sell at the current price points considering what they offer.

No way! That is awesome! Where I live these things are worth a fortune. They're like the quintessential 60s car!

VW does have a weird and interesting sales strategy, of just keeping their old (slightly revised) models alive in poorer countries.
