Worst book to movie adaptation?

Yates is a mediocre director (like all the HP stooges except Cuaron) but that was the best moment in any of his Potter films. In that moment Harry and Hermione are just two friends trying to not to lose hope.

That's the problem. Harry Potter is an asshole. He has zero empathy for others, and his concern ends at the physical well being of his friends. Cheering Hermione up is not something the character would do.

Sure he would. Harry isn't an asshole. He shows little empathy most of the time because he's always dealing with so much bullshit. But in that one moment when things were pretty drab and quiet he knew what was up with her. It felt right.

Also Yates did a fucking awesome job. The only really weak movie was Goblet and even it had great moments and sequences. Azkaban is probably more overrated than Gravity.

I'm not saying it's 'bad', but Season 2 of Game of Thrones could have been a much better adaptation of A Clash of Kings. Despite the fact the title sequence is several minutes of staring at a map you get no real idea where all these armies are, so you can't really appreciate what is going on in the war which is central to the plot.

And they cut Ramsey's subplot, which was one of the best parts of the book.

And everything about Robb and Tulisa is stupid. Also Cat and Jaime.

And of course... WHERE ARE MAH DRAGONZ?

I suppose they added in loads of Arya/Tywin scenes which were pretty good so that's something I guess.

As someone who just finished A Clash of Kings last weekend for the first time, I agree.

Although like you, the show added the Arya/Tywin scenes, so that helps a little.

Azkaban more overrated than Gravity?

The force is strong with you, Darth Brandon.

Kind of an in-joke in regards to the Gravity is overrated thread, but yeah I don't really see how Azkaban is so good that it is the "only" good Harry Potter movie according to some. I think it's great, but it's not the only great one.

When I see people trying to explain it all they really do is pull the cinematography card, but some of the others had phenomenal cinematography as well. And better stories and acting for that matter.

It also loses a lot in switching to a modern setting and changing the nationality. Just making it about kids going native on an island is a very superficial interpretation.

Agreed. Just seems like so much of the novel flew over their heads or something.

The Golden Compass. From what I've read, the movie was changed quite significantly due to religious people having problems with the books.

Edit: It still wouldn't have been great, but I would have liked to see the first movie be unchanged and do at least decently well, in the hopes that the planned sequels would have come out and potentially been decent.

Abraham Lincoln Vampire Hunter

Maybe 10% of the material from the book is in this creamy pile of shit.

Holy shit this one too. That book was actually extremely well done and I was kind of looking forward to the movie.

Percy Jackson, too. Can't believe they managed to fuck it up that bad and still get a sequel. That movie is so jumbled, things happened way out of order.

Anything by King are Koontz.
Shawshank redemption is much better than the short story, stand by me likewise. The running man is much better than the short story and the shining movie is in my opinion better than the book. King has a fairly decent record on adaptations
