Worst/Cheapest Boss fights of all time?

Jinpachi is - if not the cheapest, at least in my top three.

Any boss that can kill you in four seconds needs to be reworked, if you ask me.

Has anyone mentioned General Raam in GoW yet. Because if not I will.

Oh snap now that you mention it in God Of War Ares pissed me off then the Kratos Clones then Ares pissed me off even more. >_<

For some godforsaken reason, all the 2D MKs have this weird.. thing.

Playing on the Player 2 side makes the game MUCH easier. The AI is much easier to trick. I'm amazed nobody has ever noticed enough to ask Boon about it.

Shao Kahn is a pushover on P2 side. Jump in (he doesn't counter most of the time) and crouch. He'll either do

1- His shoulder slam (you're ****ed!)
2- A weak punch (uppercut)
3- His projectile (uppercut)

That's all you need to do.

As for worst/cheapest, I submit to you the 2 last hidden bosses of Digital Devil Saga.

In DDS1 you have to fight the protagonist from Shin Megami Tensei 3. Not a fun fight, only 2 ways to defeat him, one of which could be considered cheating and the other relying on luck. Oh, what's that? He's down to 1hp? Oh but you're unlucky and his minion's sleep spell didn't work on the party member it was supposed to (who the hell designed a boss fight where you HAVE to get hit with a status effect to even stand a chance?) and now he does his ultimate attack which kills everyone instantly. Only other way to kill him is to drain his mana completely, which takes forever and is kind of like cheating. Oh well.

DDS2 has an even harder boss fight apparently. I didn't bother trying to get to it.

The 14th colossus.

Ounce your down, you are down.

Amazingly enough I only had to do this once. However I did have some major problems with both the 11th and 16th ones. The 11th was cheap in that if it cornered you, there was pretty much no way to get up and get away. You just had to slowly wait for the sweet release of death.

And the 16th.. that was more a battle against the camera than anything else, but man what a battle it was.

No extra saves? You're SOL then.

The 11th anf 14th were both like this. By the time your character was getting up, the colossus was already running at you to knock you down again. Pretty much no way to get away.

The final boss from FFIX.

Not because of the battle itself, just the fact that he appeared out of nowhere not having been any part of the game at all. A major letdown in storytelling. Ideally your supposed to hate the boss your fighting....makes the game more imersive and exciting. The final boss just lacked feeling.

This has been a problem in a few FFs.

"Hi! My name is Bonetails, and I deal out stat effects with 99% of my hits!. I'm glad you came down all 100 levels of the trial without saving to see me!"

Edit: This is easily one of the cheapest fights I have ever beaten.

Maybe it has been a really long time since i played it, but whend do you fight that? I did beat the game, some hidden area?

I really hate the final boss of Beyond Good and Evil. Awful battle.

Yeah, I've never bothered finishing the game, simply because of that. My save file just before the final boss has no health kits, which pretty much leaves me a bit screwed, since you can't go back to anywhere to buy more.

Stupid stupid stupid.

The last boss of Jet Force Gemini?

Yep, he was really rough from what I remember. My friends and I sat there taking turns trying to beat him for over an hour. We finally did, but jesus it took a while.

Recently I spent a good hour trying to beat Super Baby in DBZ BT2 last night. Bastard does major damage even if you're blocking, and SS4 Goku charges really slowly. Had to level up quite a bit, then try my hardest to hit him from a distance. The final boss was a joke by comparison.

The secret bosses in Digital Devil Saga 1 and 2. I maxed out my character and had to actually keep track of the bosses hit points. Miscount and the bosses and regenerate all their hit points or kill you in one shot. At least Nocturne's secret boss wasn't that bad.

Persona 3 secret boss

. Incredibly cheap and pretty much a lottery to win.

Sounds like your typical Megaten "Lolz, don't even TRY to kill me super boss!" (At least, DDS)

I can't wait to play P3. :(

This boss is a different level, I've played most of the megaten series (including the crappy Majin-tensei games) I'm Lv99 for all my characters, Lv 99 for my Personas with maxed stats, and I've sunk 150+ hours into the game. This boss is absolutely impossible; insta-kill and insta-heal. Even knowing exactly what to do its just a lottery to beat.

. . . but I think you'll enjoy P3, its a great game, even without Fes its easily 100+ hours of rich gameplay.:D

Off topic alittle bit.. But Special Notice HAS to go to the Zero RC Airplane mission in San Andreas...

I know its not a boss but dag nab it.. its like rockstar didn't even Want anyone to beat the flipping mission... They gave you enough gas to fly half the distance you needed to.. or rather 3/4ths of the gas.. which is just enough that you crash on the way back...

After playin that mission i finally beat it by
Parking my 4ss on the street and waiting 30 minutes for the other two trucks to find their way back to me
God that was hard.

I've been playing and loving Syphon Filter: Dark Mirror on PSP but I'm at the last boss and have tried probably 15-20 times now. Seems extremely cheap to me and I'm about to give up. At least it's the last boss so I'm essentially done with the game, but it seems that there are a ton of games that I've played that I get stuck on some really hard spot and just can't proceed.

No extra saves? You're SOL then.

Definitely. The player needs to have some idea in how to develop their characters in this game as you can easily get screwed.

Lame Boss Fights:
DMC1 - the final boss forms had little to do with what you had learned. 3 did it right though.
Kingdom Hearts 1 - the whole thing was silly
Kingdom Hearts 2 - the very last form was a good battle but all the forms up to it were trying to hard to give the game an epic feel. Nomura probably took some crack before designing those.
Half-Life - whatdog.

Cheap Boss Fights
Mega Man X6 - all over the place this game was dumb hard.
SotC - last colossus. An epic battle but it really magnified some of the game's flaws like the platforming, complicated controls.
KH: Chain of Memories - the first game was hard but a lot of it was due to the bad camera and platforming issues. This game was just unfair at points.

The end bosses from the CDi Zelda games. There are videos of them on youtube - they're both one-hit kills. Just throw the weapon the game is named after at them.

Hilarious.

I actually enjoy those kind of odds. There is no real reward for defeating
Dark Alice, Demi-fiend, Satan
or varies other optional Megaten super bosses other then satisfaction and knowing you've mastered every single aspect of the battle system.

It was pretty tough, but mainly because by that point you don't have any flying skill, which just makes flying even more of a bitch. Its possible though.

What, no Rock Monster/Yellow Devil from Mega Man 1 yet? Did anyone beat him *without* using the "pause" cheat?

(This is one of the reasons I can't beat Mega Man Powered Up, by the way. :-( )

Viewtiful Joe 2 final boss. I can't beat this ****er after sinking 6+ hrs into this cheap ass and with the help of FAQs.
Wait...You beat Frost Tiger and are having trouble with the Black Emperor? That's just crazy talk.

And just to add something to this thread: The electrical machine-thing mini boss in the desert stage of Alien Hominid. Damn I hate that thing...

This boss is a lot cheaper, essentially you can only use one character, she changes persona each round if you have strength against the move she uses she defaults to insta-kill and you die. Basically only way of knowing exactly what she's going to do by reading the official guide book or reading a faq. What you have to do is make sure your persona isn't strong against her persona for that turn, if it is you die. You will also need certain personas and certain commus to be maxed. This however is the easy part and not what I consider cheap.

What is considered cheap is that only real way to give effective damage against her is by means of "hyper counter" which is via random counter when you get attacked. Essentially you have to make a bunch of Lv99 Personas and have "hyper counter" on each one, then go down to the bottom floor and try do the above routine of switching out the personas; the rest you have to leave up to luck. Once you do 10,001 damage you have to use the Lucifer and Satan's move to finish her off. But essentially its just luck, if you fail you have to spend 30 minutes going down to the bottom floor again and try your luck again. Why I consider her cheap is because it has nothing to do with skill or tactics but only on sheer luck.

When you get Persona 3 and you are able to be her, you will have my eternal respect :lol

Almost any boss in arcade fighting game, I mean, you fight 8-10 moron with a crappy AI, and just for the last one, there's some ultra bad ass with insane reflex that keeps kicking your butt !

I know, I know, I lack the skills...

Also the bosses form Megaman Powered Up, Megaman 1 boss are so chaotic, it's just luck, I'll never make the 100 challenge because of the last line :(

I'll say one that hasn't been mentioned yet. The Ancient Slime at the end of the the Ancient Cave in Lufia 2, is ****ing annoying. Back in the day when there was no online guides to follow I really wasn't sure what to do for it. It took me over 5 years and about 200 hours to kill him, but damn if there wasn't a huge satisfaction award at the end.

Basically you have to do about 20-30 hours of work just to get to him. He is at the end of a 100 story random generating dungeon. Once you get to him, you have 3 turns to deal over 15,000 damage to him, and the average hit for most people by the end of the dungeon is around 250 per person. Had to pull some crazy stunts to beat him.

"I'm the Eternal Evil and I came out of... out of... because, actually... ... DIE!" Yeah, that felt extremely tacked on.

Shadow of the Colossus, #11 (Tiger) and #14 (Lion). You just can't get up fast enough after they get you once. Your only chance in those moments is some obstacle between you and them or falling down a ledge or something.

Metal Slug 3, man.... That had a final boss sequence that was designed by Satan himself.

That's why Metal Slug Anthology with infinite lives FTW.

Bosses like that are ridiculously hilarious.

There was a female boss in Wild Arms 1 on the PS1 (forgot which one) which I was fighting for 2 hours... I was making approximately 250.000 Hitpoints damage until I gave up

Then I looked in a walkthrough and saw that this boss had something aroung 10.000 Hitpoints...
Something inside me died at that time...

Yeah, but seems like
Elizabeth
is in a whole different level, when not even leveling up is able to get you through it, and in Nocturne the secret bosses gave you one of the better finales.
