Worst gaming opinions you've ever heard?

No I do not suggest 30fps is never acceptable. It is a playable fuck-up if you cannot reach the goal of 60fps. But it is not "fine". It is barely acceptable if there are hardware limitations.
To quote myself from the AC:Unity thread.
If you are "fine with 30fps" you should be at least "ok" with 25fps and hell 20fps should be acceptable... If 30 fps is your goal and you fuck it up you end up with 20-25fps.

You're really reaching on this one.

I only quoted myself to not have to write the same again.

I certainly understand what you're saying. If you're aiming for something, you usually fall short of it, therefore it makes sense to aim above 30 fps in order to be able to lock it at 30. A problem is you're practcally asking developers to work toward a goal they have no intention of reaching.

Really? What comes below "fine" which basically good? Almost all "30fps is fine" people see 30fps also as the bare minumum. Where do we go from there when the bare minimum is good?

Well, the "no intention of reaching" is the problem. I can accept that on limited hardware machine there have to be compromises. But should your goal be the bare minimum? And the more we accept the bare minimum as good/fine, the worse it will get.

Wow, read through most of this thread and haven't seen any mention of "deal with it". For my money, that was the most pigheaded, condescending, illogical gaming screed that I've heard.

Basically, he was saying "don't question my authority; you must bend over and take our shitty DRM in your living room and give us more money because vacuums need an outlet". Dick.

No, 30fps is completely fine. It's much better to dedicate resources towards other things than wasting them on something (i.e. 60fps)that the majority of players aren't going to notice or care about.

Yep you are the perfect example of what I am talking about. Thank you for that. I rest my case now...

Some people are confused and think that they actually prefer asymmetrical stick placement on controllers.

Clearly wrong.

gamergate

for a less generic answer, this is one I heard recently, doesn't help that it comes off from someone I'm working with in making video games:

blacklisting telltale forever because there is no mouse invert y function in the walking dead s1 after waiting for 2 years, and "it's clearly not a technical but an attitude issue (for telltale)"

I'm legitimately trying to figure out what this means in relation to both Journey and The Walking Dead vs just about every other game.

Those "games" with such limited and miniscule gameplay should not be classified as games imo. Those "games" are more similar to interactive experiences than games. A game provides a challenge after giving you a toolset of abilities/functions. Journey is mostly just walking around and some jumps with almost no difficulty. (Although my memory of Journey is quite hazy as I tried to forget it after wasting my time "playing" it.) The Walking Dead is practically a visual novel, and I don't consider those to be games either (visual/interactive novel is more accurate than game).

That GTA IV is better than Saint's Row.

It's really not. It barely comes close.

It's several magnitudes better than that steaming pile.
But that's very subjective, so I can't hold your opinion against you (too much) :)

I'm starting to think that the worst gaming opinion is that there are bad gaming opinions.

"You only like those games because of nostalgia. Something something rose tinted glasses," when stated as though it were an objective fact, is the worst opinion I've heard.

"I won't play Dust: An Elysian Tail because furries".

Ugh. That bitch is GOTY 2013 material, and people rail on it because the characters have tails.

Doesn't exclusivity promote competition? Am I off base here? I welcome a lecture if I am.

There are other fields were console makers can compete, price, build quality, specs, design, etc. The lack of exclusives would probably force them to put more work in these aspects, which could make those even better.Just like with any other electronic product.
And game companies could compete with each other with games made for every platform were it is technically feasible to produce the game.

Someone's personal preference is what you consider the worst gaming opinion you've ever heard?

If someone dislikes "furries" and the game consists of a mostly "furry" cast, I think it's completely understandable about why they might not want to play it. You can lament the fact that they can't overlook that to enjoy a great game, but hey, I'm not condemning anyone that doesn't want to play Wind Waker because of its art style, it's just a personal preference.

Of all the opinions I have read in this thread, I find yours to be the worst.

"30 FPS > 60 FPS"
"Framerate is just a number."
"Framerate relates to graphics, not gameplay."
"You need to update your PC every year to keep up with [my console of choice]."

In the context of a sequel in a franchise being wildly different from its predecessors:

"You just don't like it because its different" - Everytime I've seen this dismissive defense used its in response to a backlash where its been explained in detail several times why people don't like a particular game.

"If you buy season passes, you are 'part of the problem'"

Please, you are the one buying games you don't like (or waiting til everything is near-free) and I'M the problem?

"MGS4 is a horrible game."
"Even a shitty *insert franchise* game is still a pretty good game."
"Earthbound is a bad game".
"Am I the only one who thinks *insert not even THAT unpopular opinion*?"
"Fallout 3 is a bad game."
A comment about how indie games are not real games.
"Mass Effect 2 is a bad game."

That the original Tomb Raiders suck because of tank controls and they were mainly about Lara's sex appeal. Even some game journalists whose opinions I usually agree with have repeated this on podcasts.

That Crash Bandicoot sucks because it's linear, especially in comparisons to Mario 64.

That GTAV has bad writing and story.

"60fps is a necessity"
"30fps is unplayable"
"30/60 FPS > 60/30 FPS"

Same thing for resolutions.

Basically, I hate most gaffers.

Others include gamergate, entitlement (as in "the developer should make his game line this or no buy"), Link should be a woman, sexism, mysoginy, etc (I don't even enter these topics anymore).

I like when guys are discussing the gameplay of the game, the lore, having fun.

"Framerate relates to graphics, not gameplay."

The opposite is true for me. Whenever you see people talk about framerate it's about sacrificing 60FPS for a better looking game which implies that it has nothing to do with how a game looks. Sure the primary advantage of 60FPS is the gameplay advantages but ]games look better at 60FPS as well.

I used to work in retail.

We once sold a Ps3 which came with a copy of Uncharted 2 (keep in mind that this was when the game was still fairly new).

Next day the guy comes to trade in the game saying it was crap, that it was badly done and he was dissapointed by the low production values and underwhelming graphics.
Then he went on to complain about it being a "typical retail store move of bundling consoles with shitty games".

Me and my co-workers were like:

I mean, come on, even if you don't like the gameplay you at least have to acknowledge the production values (specially in the time when the game was still new)
