Worst injury you ever had GAF?

Almost lost my right hand in a campfire. Several drugs were involved. Two week hospital stint in isolation, several months recovery time, still scarred pretty bad.

I also shattered my leg by going down an orange tube slide standing up when it was frosty out. Teenage hormones and pussy were involved. 12 weeks in a full leg cast, several pins, still hurts.

Just last spring I fell 15 or so feet down a stairwell and broke my wrist. Luckily that prevented me from smashing my face and potentially dying. Beer was involved but it was mainly a fluke.

...yeah I'm accident prone.

What was the injury? Back
How did it happen? Lifting weights(Good mornings)
Any surgeries? No
How long was the recovery..couple weeks to feel normal.

So nothing major, but I have a small taste for people with chronic back pain. Trying to get out of bed is one of the toughest crap I had to endure!

Still sporting a lower abdominal hernia I found out about over a year ago. I need surgery but it'd cut into my running/lifting. It's been bugging me the last month. :/

Once playing football at school somebody kicked me from behind, I did a spin and fell over my head, I was amnesic for 30 minutes, I didn't remember who were my parents or were I lived, I thought that only happened in fiction, it was scary.

Broke my two front teeth damn near to the gum skateboarding.

Got hit by a car and scraped my back up so bad I couldn't bend over for two weeks

Pulled some lower back muscles playing soccer like 3 years ago still have some slight pain to this day

When I was 10, (I think cos I remember pokemon RS was out) my dad came in from the pub, more pissed than usual, and absolutely beat the shit out of me. He didn't usually do it so it needed medical attention, but I had a broken leg, broken arm, cut right across my eye, black eye, broken nose, throwing up blood cos he'd kicked me in the stomach all sorts.
.
Holy crap, man. I always hate hearing things like this. I hope he served some serious jail time for doing that to you.

Full-thickness burn to the right hand. Happened in a kitchen fire in my flat. I had skin from my right thigh grafted onto the burn site. Recovery including physical therapy and various types of pressure bandages lasted for about 18 months, longer if you count the ongoing cosmetic process.

I've been meaning to get the pictures taken at the time from medical records, and I've seen them again recently, but I'm not entirely sure they'd be SFW (mostly because of the bloody mess after the surgery).

My worse/most painful was I broke my toe just a couple months ago by dropping a 60lbs hydraulic pump on it from a height of about 6ft. It shattered the bone.

Recovery has been pretty much a cake walk though, after the first 3 or 4 weeks Im pretty much back to normal but holy hell, the pain when it happened was horrible. Ive broken my collarbone before as well and that was nothing in the initial pain department by comparison (although the recovery is much worse IMO)

The worst injury I had wasn't even real apparently.

I have this very vivid memory of being at a local carnival. I was playing one of the games, the shooting one where you have to shoot out the star from a piece of paper with a bb gun to get a prize.
Well I attempted to do this, but the trigger was stuck or something. I kept pulling and my damn finger snapped, broke the bone.

However, according to my parents and doctor, this never actually happened. (The carnival and gun game all happened, just the specific part about breaking the finger didn't)

I don't know.

Got my head opened on a few centimeters after falling while running and hitting those metal-made things they put near to bus stops (actually if these things weren't here i would have fell on the street so don't know if that's better).

Had like 6 stitches and looked like the Frankenstein monster for a few weeks, but strangely enough I didn't feel any pain. I guess the impact was so hard I was too shocked to feel it

Went through a double pained plate glass door when I was six. I had huge lacerations all over my body, severed arteries, massive blood loss.
I was two blocks from home when it happened and passed out due to shock and blood loss before getting home. If it wasn't for two men I never saw before picking me up and carrying me home, I'd certainly be dead.

Actually, typing up that last post made me realize the worst injury I have is my brain being all sorts of stupid. OCD and misremembering and whatever is worse than a broken finger.

Cringing hard reading this thread. My worst injury involved a parked vehicle's exhaust pipe, a dumb 9 year old on a bike, and no anesthetic at the ER. I was riding my bike up my driveway and fell sideways and somehow my chin connected with my mom's suburban's exhaust pipe. The cut went clear through the flesh right beneath my lower lip--I could stick my tongue through my chin.

Had stitches both inside and outside of the wound with no working anesthetic. The doctor put some topical bullshit anesthetic around the wound.... may as well have been Orajel. I remember my dad being pretty pissed off about that.

Tore my triceps tendon completely off my elbow bone (fulcrum), which is also called the funny bone, and Damn that was NOT funny. Required surgery to pull the tendon back over the fulcrum and tie it down so it could heal in place rather than flop around in my arm for the rest of my life. Most pain I have ever experienced by far.

I came home one day after work and caught that fucker homewrecker Todd and my lover Jake inspecting each others bumholes on my fucking bed. I chased that homewrecker Todd out the door and ended up slipping on a pair of Jakes silk underwear. Broke my elbow in the process. Fucking homewrecker Todd. You bitch.

Bad concussion after being unconscious for a while, a minor leg injury, and ongoing back problems caused by being hit by a car.

  • Brain bleeding
  • Broken jaw - lost a tooth
  • Broken collarbone
  • Fractured shin

Was rear ended in LA. We were in the freeway and had to stop because of another car wreck. We were being redirected by the cops when we got hit.

Luckily for me, a sprain ankle during a game of pickup basketball was my only injury. About a week to heal.

Right, so the worst thing I ever had and still have is an Peri-anal abcess with fistula's.

I can not get surgery because the result would be a giant open wound on my ass that has to heal for several weeks in which I will not be able to work/study. :(

Just broken bones for me, of which the right arm (overly aggressive slide tackle while playing soccer) was the worst. I actually didn't mind the broken ankle (hilariously sustained while playing badminton) too much - after a week, I was loping along on crutches like those riding critters in 'The Dark Crystal' way faster than I could walk.

I remember when I was about 8, I went to the arcade..my mom went into a flower shop that had doors similar to this. When I was done, I was standing to the right of the door, to look through the window.. I had my hands cupped by my eyes to see if I could see her. Someone went through the door and for whatever reason, I put my hand in the space where the hinges are so when the door shut, not only was my hand getting mashed, I had NO WAY I could open the door. I remember screaming in pain, and thankfully, the person who had just gone in heard me and got back to the door pretty quickly (didn't feel that quick at the time), but man..what a horrible feeling getting your hand mashed and being able to do nothing...

Bump because. ... last night playing basketball running full speed tripped on defender's foot, fell hard, broke clavicle (collar) bone in half and shattered it. Arm in sling for 6 - 8 weeks and no basketball until August. 3.48am right now in quite a lot of pain can't sleep. By far worst injury of my life. Only the second time to the hospital in > 30 years. Feels bad man. But at least we have awesome health care, hasn't cost me a cent. Not as bad as some of you guys but still not feeling good right now.

Pics (SFW) if you have 'em.

1) Broke my 5th metacarpal in my left hand (boxer's fracture, they call it)
2) Slipped going down carpeted stairs and braced my fall
3) Turns out I had an enchondroma, a tumor in that bone that weakened it. I had to be in a cast for 3 months while the fracture healed. Then afterwards had to have bone marrow transplanted from my wrist to that bone (tumor removed), back in a cast for another 3 months
4) From the time it happened until out of a cast was 6 months, probably took another year before that hand felt "normal"
5) No pics handy :(

Broken finger. Shattered teeth. Nothing dramatic. One was when I jumped after a volleyball and then landed on my hand, the other injury happened when some dickwad thought it was funny to throw a medicine ball at me when I was busy tying my shoes. Looked up when I was done and got the ball in my face, no time at all to react. That one sucked, couldn't eat properly for weeks and had to go to the dentist every few days.

How I managed to not once injure myself in 12 years of wrestling and Judo remains a mystery though.

I had a testicle twist around the other. Worst pain I have ever experienced in my life. I was in the hospital for a few hours and the testicle untwisted.

Burned my arm while working. I was handing steamer at my parents' crab store when I stupidly reached for the gloves while the steamer door was opened. Either that or when I fell on my coccyx and couldn't get off the ground for half an hour.

Tore my left ACL playing soccer when I was 19 - knee bent completely sideways while I was running down the field and stepped in a divot full stride.

Everyone on my team thought I tripped over my own feet and I had to army crawl to the sideline, and my mom made me hop across the field on just my right leg to get to the car after the game because she thought I did too.

I only missed one day of work, though.

I don't have a good timeline on the recovery. The injury happened in July and was originally diagnosed as a severe sprain. In August, when it wasn't getting better, I found out I had tore the ligament. Because I was just about to move into the 4th floor of my elevator-less college dorm, I decided to put off surgery until winter break so I could have a few weeks to recover.

I completely wrecked my back while trying to lift weights after being sick for a while. It pretty much went from a simple muscle spasm to full blown nightmare in a matter of hours. Basically imagine being tazed in the small of your back every couple of minutes or so (for a good 12 hours) and not being able to move at all because that makes it even worse, like someone is taking a cattle prod to your body while you're laying on the floor.

Took me about a week before I was able to start walking semi normally again.

I fell and hit my head as a kid. I was in the hospital for weeks and even had to re-learn how to walk. It's still crazy how there were no lasting effects and I'd totally forgotten about it till I saw this thread..

Was playing home dun derby with baseballs at a local softball field with my friend back in high school. We used to pitch from about 40 feet away and just only try to pull the ball, no balls back up the middle. Unfortunately he didn't pull one, lined it back up the middle and off the side/back of my head.

I collapsed to the dirt, got up a few minutes later and everything was just white. I couldn't see anything. He drove us home and I sat on the couch "watching" TV until my mom got home from work. I didn't want to tell her something was wrong but she figured it out pretty quickly. Took me to the ER and after waiting all night finally got some scans and shit done. At this point I still couldn't see anything. I legit thought I was blind.

Turns out I had a brain hemorrhage (and concussion) so my brain was bleeding and swollen, the swollen part apparently was the reason my vision was affected. I stayed in the ICU for three days I think while they waited for swelling and bleeding to subside, after about a day I started to have a bit of vision come back, everything was still bright but things slowly came into focus.

Got out of the hospital I think on the 4th day, sight was fine and I felt pretty normal by then.

I've had it good so far (knock on wood).

Worst was when I was about 10 and was riding my brand new cool mountainbike. The front wheel locked up as I was riding up on the pavement and I was slung forward, scraped a lot of my body and was bleeding quite a lot superficially. Had to lie down for a couple of days and bandage arms + knees but I got through it okay without any visible scars :)

I did get a huge scar on my knee though from riding a moped, was turning a corner and hit a patch of gravel. I did a slide with my knee in the gravel for about 1 meter, was bleeding really heavily from the knee. Had to bandage that shit for 2 weeks :(

When I was about 6 years old I was playing in the yard and tripped, and fell onto a iron rake with my knee. The wound itself wasn't too bad, but a few days later I got a really high fever and was rushed to the hospital. I spent the next week in quarantine where I received massive doses of full-spectrum antibiotics while they tried to figure out what caused the fever.

It turned out to be a very common bacteria that lives in the soil, and would be harmless to humans under most circumstances. I had to stay in the hospital for nearly 3 months and had to continue taking lots of antibiotics after I was released. My mom said the first time she went to get the meds from the apothecary they wouldn't give it to her because the dose was way to high for a child my size and age.

I fully recovered, but the fever could have killed me.

Had braces, fell of bike, braces brake off while getting molested into my upper lip.

Days with a swollen and numb lip afterwards

Broke my wrist when I was in elementary school, couple eye surgeries, an appendectomy which was horrible, and I got hit by a car as a pedestrian but escaped with just some soreness and slight bruising.

Tendinitis in both wrists and ankles which I never let heal properly so the pain is with me the rest of my life
Also TMJ if they counts
