Worst library of games for a game console

Atari Jaguar. Aside from Temptest 2000 and Alien VS Predator there is literally nothing else unique to this system that you could call good.

Zero5
Super Burnout
Skyhammer
Defender 2000
Protector SE
Battlemorph
BattleSphere Gold

32X. Knuckles Chaotix. That was about it. And Knuckles Chaotix is pretty bad with very repetitive and annoying level design.

Virtua Fighter
After Burner
Space Harrier
Mortal Kombat II
NBA Jam TE

I can't think of a single good exclusive title except maybe Star Wars Arcade and I'm willing to bet without doing any research at all that that game was ported to something and probably looked a bit better.

Stellar Assault
Tempo
Virtua Racing Deluxe
Darxide

Turbo Grafx CD (PC Engine). Not the worst of all time but after Rondo of Blood there isn't many interesting titles on it aside from a couple of ports of arcade SHMUPS and Hentai games (if you're into that sort of thing).

lmao do I even need to do this one?

Gizmondo?

Also, does the WonderSwan have anything of note outside of Super Robot Wars Compact, SD Gundam G Generation, mediocre-to-garbage Mega Man games and bad ports?

I think there was a good Lufia game on the WS? I remember reading that when I was researching the franchise as a kid or something

Mile High Pinball
High Seize
Snake 3D
Pathway to Glory
Pocket Kingdom
Splinter Cell: Chaos Theory
Tony Hawk's Pro Skater
Glitterati
RIFTS
System Rush

you guys should, like, actually look into these systems instead of just listing a bunch of systems you've never played.

Just WOW at the people saying Wii. I can understand that it was home to a massive amount of shovelware, but to discount all the great games it had because of that is just ignorant. Not just first party stuff either, but there were a lot of great third party games too.

My pick for worst library ever would go to 3DO. Sure it had like the best home version of Super Street Fighter II Turbo, Gex, and a few other notibles, but outside of those few games was a sea of FMV laced shit

Sorry. Having some of the best games of all time doesn't make a game library great.

A game library is only as good as its ability to sustain a user throughout the generation.

Then surely the Wii U would rank lower than N64. I have lived through both generations and while N64 had droughts, it was never as bad as Wii U.

Did Game Gear have a good collection of games? As a kid I only remember my friends playing Sonic, Ecco the dolphin or a ninja game I don't know the name..

I wish the other system mentioned in this thread(but also some of the "famous/big" ones) had a library as bad as Vita's library or Wii's library.

For exclusives, the Dreamcast is surprisingly bad simply because most of the good stuff has been ported to other systems by now.

But what other system at the time offered such amazing well done Arcade classics ports?

It shouldnt matter if all the exclusives are now available everywhere nowadays, I played more Dreamcast then I ever did the NES when it launched and it offered great innovative and expiremental games.

It had the best lifetime library in my opinion for a short lived console.

I agree. I had one back in the day and I thought Goldeneye and Banjo were overrated. I still think that (I welcome a new Banjo game or spiritual successor because I think kids need more good 3D platformers). There were a couple of really good titles but not enough to justify the cost of buying the console I think.

nother vote for the pippin, but I think the CDi has it beat.

turboduo? really?

and I'm pretty sure Rayman was not a port for Jaguar, it was its lead sku.

To everybody saying Vita...

It's got the best version of Lumines (which is one of the best puzzle games around).
The best version of Persona 4 (which is one of the best RPGs around).
Some killer music games (DJ Max Technika Tune & the Hatsune Miku games).
Lots of great hunting games (Freedom Wars being my favorite).
One of the best Action/RPG exclusives around in the form of Ys: Memories of Celceta.
Gravity Rush (my favorite open world game).
The Danganronpa games.
And a whole ton of good indie games & ports.

Worst major console library? I might throw the GameCube up for consideration.

Sorry, but I have to agree with the Wii library being (mostly) garbage. Owned a Wii, enjoyed a few of the games for it, and was let down by the rest of what it had to offer.

TI 99/4A, but it did have Hunt the Wumpus...

My man!

The prevailing mentality is to find losers and then laugh at them. For some reason, the idea of trying to find what's actually good on a system is much less appealing than publicly mocking a system - to the point where people will say things like Wii, N64, or Genesis have the worst library of all consoles.

There's probably a connection between what's going on in this thread and the article on Gamasutra by the CRPG historian.

Wii has the worst library for a generation winner ever.

I still think it has a really good library of games that are unique to it. Not just the Nintendo stuff, but some classic JRPGs and the cult classic type games you would find on the PS2 the generation before.

Based on systems I have used/owned (Helps that in the 90's a buddy of mine ran a game store and had EVERYTHING)

3DO - Pretty weak all around
CD-I - I think I played ONE game on that thing, nothing else was of interest.
Jaguar - Another 2 game console for me. Aliens game was fun ;)

Really though in the late 80's and through the 90's, lots of companies tried their hand at consoles or 'pseudo-consoles' (looking at YOU Colleco Adam!) and most of them failed.

Anyone naming current consoles are just trolling or have pretty intense bias towards another console.

I may not love everything Sega or Nintendo ever did, but I would never connect the Genesis, the Wii, or the N64 with the word "failure"

Came in to see people choose the Wii, left pleased. The Wii has a very good library, as its widespread success meant that Nintendo could revive old IPs and do interesting quirky things.

Out of all the consoles I have owned (so not obvious dead systems), the worst library is probably the GBA.

Good picks in the OP... Jaguar and 32X would be my picks for sure. I'd also have to say that the SMS was relatively poor overall, even though I adore a lot of games on it.

I can't believe people are saying Wii. It had some of the best games of last generation! A lot of shovelware, yes, but a lot of gems too1

The 32x is pretty bad. I bought one full price and kept waiting for all the great games to appear. Basically all I ended up with was Doom and Star Wars Arcade.

Blackthorne would have been good but I was never able to find a copy. I did play the shit outta Doom though.
