I never thought I'd come accross a game that is as tedious as Donkey Kong 64. I was wrong. I couldn't wait to be finished with it so that I would never have to play it ever again. The constant back-and-forths through the game world and the endless item fetch quests almost made me go crazy.
Oni was so great, I've replayed it 3 times and I feel like playing it again now that you mention it. I think the PC version is probably better than the PS2 version though.
EDIT: Paper Mario 2!? It's only the best goddamn rpg this gen.
He can join them in there and throw Ackman in there for saying Disgaea.
Paper Mario 2 is nowhere near the worst games that I have finished. Such an enjoyable experience that I have finished multiple times. I can't possibly fathom why they would dislike PM 2 so much.
eternal darkness. i was sick one weekend, rented it, and had nothing better to do. for the last several dismal hours i kept telling myself: "well, it has to end soon." what a totally reprehensible game. to think they expected people to play through it three times. i booed out loud through the end credits. it made me feel slightly better.
tough question. I hardly ever put in the time to really finish a game, so if im gonna beat something i have to really really like it. Even games most people here hate like DMC2 or Getaway i found enjoyable all the way to the end. THe worst would probably be the first Spiderman for Xbox.
i'd agree with that up until the point where the game just bottles it and calls in the "now collect the ghosts that are just floating around" - the game felt totally unfinished, and with more time (and more of the style of gameplay that happened up to the friggin ghost-a-thon) it would have been awesome.
However, i temper this with two things :
1 - most of the games i've bothered finishing have been too fanastic to not finish, so it's not like Luigi's is a steaming pile of horse shite, or anything like that - it's just not as good as Half life 2, RE4, etc...
2 - i totally forgot about the bouncer (which i finished)
I was really getting tired of the masturbatory way that MGS2:S was set up. I can just hear the Konami reps pushing this game to the fans.... "If you liked VR training, then we have three thousand impossible training missions for you! And if that's not enough, we've even added first person view to the whole game! And if that's not enough, we've even added a few paltry 'faux' missions with the star of the game, Solid Snake! And if that's STILL not enough, we've put in an extra special added bonus SKATEBOARDING GAME!!! How much would you expect to pay for all this? $19.99? $29.99? NO!!!!! You get all this for just $49.95!"

I would say POP SOT. What a piece of shit. Absolutely dungbatshit boring; gawd awful combat and play by number platforming. You don't even have to think... you just have to press buttons at the right time to get across. Seriously the WORST this gen game I have finished.
it's good DCharlie made his disntinction on Luigi's Mansion but for this game... I mean it is absolutely lousy.
Oh yeah, Silent Hill 4 runs a close tie. After visiting every place in the game twice (and there aren't that many places), I was in 'gottafinishgottafinishgottafinish' mode.
Woah, didn't know that MGS2(S) was ripped on so much. I certainly didn't hear this much negativity when it came out, aside from Snake not being the main char. I haven't played MGS2, but it's on my to do list.
My nominations:
Castlevania: Harmony of Dissonance
Tactics Ogre: Knight of Lodis
Both garbage of the garbage games that were unanimously praised in reviews. Both riddled with crippling flaws. And even their positives aren't particularly impressive in their respective genres. GBA gamers have such pathetically low standards.

I was hoping for explanations. I was hoping for some closure. I was hoping for, well...some freaking substance. Instead, I was insulted to find Snake Plissken Pro Skater:Big Shell.
In fact, the game feels a little insubstantial, even though it's got the original Sons of Liberty storyline, a ton of extra missions, and VR training. I thought that the much hyped 'Snake Tales' would add substance to an otherwise flimsy and tenuous storyline. In fact, there were many times in the game when Snake would hint to Raiden that he'd just done something, had a run-in with someone, or did something cool. With the release of Substance, I was looking forward to finding out why
Snake was in Big Shell first, what he was doing in Navy SEALs gear, what he was doing during the fight with Fatman, how he teamed up with Gurlukovich's daughter, why she had the ninja suit, what he was doing the entire time the Shell Two Core area was being destroyed, how he managed to get into Arsenal Gear, what happened during his fight with what's-her-name, and what happened after he chased Ocelot's Gear into the ocean. It seemed like a natural assumption to wonder where the star of the game is when he's not actually in the game.
But no, the makers of the game decided to make the 'Snake Tales' alternate storylines with no involvement to the original Sons of Liberty storyline. Needless to say, I'm a little disappointed. I guess I'll never know what happened
during those Solid Snake blackouts (which, by the way, account for eighty percent of the Big Shell storyline.)
No, I'm not kidding - that has to be the most over-rated game this generation. They moved to a completely polygonal engine, but kept a fixed camera!!! Seriously, WTF?!? Not to mention the annoying voice acting, the incredibly bland storyline and the abomination to gaming that was Blitzball. How anyone sees this game as anything but mediocre is beyond me.

yeah. I sort of feel the same as you but not to the same degree. The biggest problem with SOL is that there isn't actually that much game once you take out the cinemas/codecs. You didn't even get to fight Ocelot or Fortune or a whole gamut of villians in this one. However, I personally felt that
the fight with about 20 metal gear ray + final boss fight
Oni was one of the worst games I ever played, I recall it being one of the first experiences I had with a PS2 and not believeing how terrible the game looked and played, thinking that the PS2 shoudl be able to do so much more then this garbage. What was bungie thinking with that shitty game?
The shittiest game this gen that I actually finished though , prolly devil may cry 2 , I havnen't finished many games, but DMC 2 is only liek 2 hour slong so it wasn't a big deal.
Eternal Darkness; though, in all fairness, it's my own fault for not realizing that you're supposed to throw the disc into the canal once you've replayed the same goddamn level for the the third time and you're not even halfway through the game.
Picture this: I recieved our first PS2 as a wedding gift from a really cool family who understands that wedding gifts ought to be useful. Anyway, they also included a copy of Orphen.
So, my first impression of the PS2's capabilities came when we took the PS2 to the beach and set it up so the whole family could see what I'd been talking about for so long. I popped in Orphen, and everyone in my immediate family like, "This game is crap." "Can you make him shut up?"
Ape Escape 2. I bought it on a whim because I've been a bit desperate for platformers, and picked it up. I just didn't find it very fun at all, and the voice acting and music is shit.
I guess either Luigi's Mansion or Eternal Darkness, but the thing is I rarely "finish" my games. The games I play the most are those that don't have an ending, like Frequency, Burnout 3, and so forth. Sure you can complete every song and challenge, but they're not really games you "finish" like ED.
Probably Xenosaga. Alright, I stopped just after the Domo Carrier fight, but by that point, I'd endured enough of the insipid plot and characters to qualify for something CLOSE to "completion".

I'd consider that "finishing" the game. I say I've finished Burnout 2 since I unlocked every car and track, every extra mode, won every race, and received every medal.
feel like there must be something worse. what a waste of a game to finish, though. sheesh.
i must have finished something totally crap when i was working at gamespy.
Catwoman, which also is one of the crappiest games I've ever played regardless of generation. I just had to finish it to see all the bad ideas the producers came up with for this game.
Shinobi. God, what wasted potential. Not an awful game, mind you, if you pretend good games don't exist and are wearing custom sonic embroidered fanboy blinders. Otherwise, compared to the likes of God of War or Ninja Gaiden pretty naff.
There were extra levels? i beat it, posted it on eBay while it could still net a good price, then did the hacking portion before it was time to ship it out.
Xenogears. I don't care if it wasn't technically this gen, I played it this gen and it cost me plenty of hours where I could have been playing something better. And from this gen.
Otherwise, I've enjoyed pretty much everything I've played through this generation.
P.S. I'm happy to see all the Breakdown hate, I spoiled the story for myself by accident last week and thought maybe I missed out on something good.
