Worst video game publisher of all time?

Yeah, but no other publisher took once beloved franchises and pummeled them into disgrace and that alone makes them WORST of all time to me.

I can't sense if this is sarcasm or not. But if it's not: EA has a habit of buying and then closing beloved studios after a few years, taking their IPs with them. Burying beloved IPs isn't exclusive to Konami, even if people hate them right now.

Telegames?

http://www.telegames.com/publishing.htm

I mean, I owned some Telegames games because I was a Lynx/Jaguar fan, but still. :(

Aww, seems unfair given the nature of what they did and how they did it. Then again, you're not wrong.

Although, I had an ST first, and this name springs to mind:

paradox4bl94.png

It actually took a while to find any sort of logo for them, usually it was just default system font text on a title screen...

Only thing their games were good for were filling up LSD/WNW/Automation menus.

I greatly dislike the idea that the US Army publishes a first-person shooter video game. It's gross. So, that's the worst publisher.

Why ActiBlizz?

Right now, it's Konami.

I just don't approve of their rushed annual CoD releases and supporting paid DLCs like Season Pass content, maps, and exclusive weapons.

They also have a say about World of WarCraft as well, and have recently added too many micro-transaction gimmicks. It's just bad incentive for a publisher to be encouraging this.

Why do people hate Nicalis?

I don't know anything about them or their games, but they come up a lot.

I don't like them because they completely neglect Europe. 1000 Spikes still isn't out over here, the DSi version of Cave Story never got released over here (if memory serves, the 3DS version of Cave Story+ was released last year,) Ikachan isn't out over here... Essentially if something gets picked up by Nicalis it'll either never come out in Europe or it'll release years after it does everywhere else.

Some people had issues with the Cave Story+ Wiiware release, but I'm not too sure what they were. I think there were problems with the soundtrack?

Phoenix Games.

Phoenix eventually went out of business (Disney probably finally caught on to them), but they managed to pump out over 100 games on the PS2 alone in something like two years. Phoenix Games were a self-proclaimed 'super' budget publisher; absolutely proud of the fact that they could make a game in just a few short weeks.

Their shit mostly consisted of poorly dubbed cartoons (most famously Animal Soccer World) with a few jigsaw puzzles slapped on the disc. But their actual GAMES with GAMEPLAY were so much worse.

Hello London Cab Challenge.

EA of course. Without doubt.
Activision Blizzard can't be on that list for all the wows and CoDs they make, they do make new IPs from time to time and Hearthstone and Heroes are pretty decent games. Not that I'd play them but nah man Activision has not bought a studio then after 2 years shit cans them. They have not had the most obnoxius dlc selling mechanic aside from WB.

Oh Ubisoft too. They run an unsustainable game development pipeline and are gonna kill open world games for a few years.

Konami? They have not made shit for years so they are just dead to me.

I'd say Strategy First. When two companies decide to create their own DD services (Gamersgate and Impulse) due to your not paying them and almost putting them out of business, you're pretty damn terrible.

Lol. The art style is killing me.

I came into this thread to say Phoenix Games. I'm glad someone beat me to it.

Whatever you think the worst publisher is, set your standards way lower. These guys produced well over 100 games and not a single one was even playable.

Hello London Cab Challenge.

I was just about to post them. I don't think they ever published a good game. And how cheap were the games that they released? With how fast quality titles seem to drop price in the UK, it's hard to imagine how a company known for awful games could be around for several years.

Acclaim, Sega, LJN, Virgin! (Cool Spot was actually pretty cool)

Acclaim and Sega? Seriously?

Acclaim, Sega, LJN, Virgin! (Cool Spot was actually pretty cool)
Virgin published a load of cool shit, not to mention owning Westwood before EA and therefore having their name on the box of games like Dune II and C&C. VETOED.

Edit: I didn't even see Sega, my brain subconsciously rejected such a ludicrous suggestion.

Specialized in arcade conversions of Capcom and Sega to home computers of the time.
They took and ruined the some of the best games of all time. Totally amateurish, their releases were most of the time an unplayable bugfest.

Hello London Cab Challenge.

Animal Soccer World is a hell of a drug.

Hello London Cab Challenge.

Holy crap I had never heard of them. I went and watched a vid of that Peter Pan game too. This was the best part lol. I'm pretty sure these guys are the worst ever.

lol at the man-baby 'konami' crying.
they're one of the greatest publishers to have ever graced the games industry.
they may be moving on now, and the whole kojima debacle was pretty shitty, but their history of quality titles through multiple generations of hardware, imo makes them an automatic invalid choice for 'worst publisher'.

what the hell.

Anyone who says Activision is insane and ignores 1978-2006

Same with EA, of all time can't be achieved in only 5-7 years.

I'd agree with you on EA but you have two things, you got uncle toms as your name and avatar :P

And in all seriousness it's always what have you done for me lately that will define a legacy if it's 5-7 years of straight shit with no progress you write a fucker off there is no return they have become decrepit. That said, I never liked those fuckers at EA ever. :P

Hello London Cab Challenge.

This can't be real. This is impossible, I mean honestly, how in the 9 circles of hell does this shit exist!?

How did LJN secure the rights to so many movie licenses? You'd think that movie makers would have pulled their licensing deals after the first couple stinkers, but they doubled down instead. LJN never published a good game, and the label was even resurrected for one of the worst Dreamcast games of all (Spirit of Speed 1937). A horrible publisher all around.

To be fair, LJN's WWF games were pretty freaking good.
