Would Anyone Else Be Furious If Zelda:BotW Is Graphically Identical on Wii U & NX?

1080p
rock solid 30fps framerate
longer draw distances
higher res textures
more trees, & foliage, etc
more particle effects

Same experience, just more polished visuals.

Furious? Nah.

Disappointed? Probably. It'd be cool if the NX version were, at the very least, 1080p native. I feel like asking for anything at all is asking way too much with Nintendo :\

You're correct, it does look washed out.

I genuinely am shocked at all the people saying "ABSOLUTELY NOT!! THERE'S NO NEED TO IMPROVE THE GRAPHICS!!! THE GAME LOOKS AMAZING AS IT IS!!!

Seriously?

The frame rate is fucking horrible.

The pop in is distracting as fuck.

I have seen some shockingly bad textures that look like it belongs on a PS2 game.

Where the fuck is the anti aliasing in this game?

IF the NX hardware is superior to the Wii U (allowing Nintendo to indeed improve frame rate/textures/resolution/AA/etc), yet Nintendo make a conscious decision not to improve any of these problems...that to me is a sign of no respect for Nintendo fans (particularly if Nintendo has the audacity to tout a graphically Wii U/NX identical version of this game as the flagship launch title for the NX).

Given the large set of graphical flaws readily apparent in the game which can easily be fixed with more power (e.g. aliasing and LoD pop in, to name two of the most obvious ones), it would certainly be a shame.

Pretty much how I feel yet saying so just upsets everyone who was hoping this game would be some sort of gift from the gaming gods.

I also said during the original reveal on these boards that id see everyone in a year or two to say I told you when o said the real game wouldn't match that first clip and with the terrible textures, draw in, empty nothingness and frame rate problems I was absolutely correct.

Pat yourself on the back, champ.

Is it possibly the case that direct feed footage looks "washed out", as people say, because it's limited-range RGB rather than full (as the Wii U doesn't do full-range) and we're all watching it on full-range monitors?

Im late to the thread but would the OP blindly buy the NX Zelda without finding out if it offered any changes worthwhile?

If so, he is of course free to be irritated, but surely some amount of caveat emptor applies right?

Posts like this are hilarious. Acting like they are some soothsayer because a game shown for the first time looks different to the way it looks 18 months later. Whoop-de-doo.

Latching onto any minor difference and claiming it as justification for every single aspect of their prediction.

Just remember the graphics differences between Gamecube TP and Wii TP. Nothing.

If the gap between the NX and the Wii U is larger than the gap between the Wii and GC, it would be nice for BotW to take advantage of the better hardware. Emphasis on 'if', I don't have a clue what the NX will be like, but I don't expect something barely different from Wii U specs.

All of that plus AA and AF would be fantastic. I'm not sure what to expect, but one would think that if the NX is a substantially more powerful system then they should be able to do all of this given the amount of time they've had to work on the NX version. This is definitely game that is being handicapped by the WiiU.

1080p
stable framerate
higher draw distance

That's the minimum I'd like to see. Everything else would be a bonus.

Definitely the minimum acceptable. Anything less would be pathetic. Again pending NX hardware though.

Just remember the graphics differences between Gamecube TP and Wii TP. Nothing.

Fair point, but as other have mentioned that was only acceptable in the sense that the Wii was basically a Gamecube. If the NX is basically a WiiU, that's a whole other can of worms to be irritated about.

I just look at games like Horizon Zero on PS4, and think what if Nintendo weren't so damn cheap and we had a Zelda (and other Nintendo franchise games) with graphics like this...

This statement gives me hope that the NX version will be better:

the decision to release Breath of the Wild on both Wii U and NX was made relatively early on in development. He said, “From the beginning we were thinking of releasing this title on both platforms. With Twilight Princess, I was looking at, this [then-new] platform called Wii and I had more of an outsider objective view of, ‘Oh this is coming out,’ but for this one I was slightly more involved with NX and just judging on the timing of development.

I can't say I'd really care at all unless they made some claim that it would be better and that didn't end up being the case. I'll be buying the NX because outside of some exceptions I tend to like the games Nintendo develops and that is the system I will need to get them in the future. If BotW ends up with better graphics or more stable framerate that will just be a bonus.

Too bad the former looked boring.

If we end up with another Nintendo gaming system that is severely under-powered when compared to Neo and Scorpio...then what a slap in the face for us Nintendo fans.

And I don't care what crappy gimmick they come up with this time to justify being cheap and releasing inferior hardware.

You would think they would learn their lesson after the Wii U, but who the hell knows with Nintendo!

It seems like they are so desperate to re-create the success of the Wii, and are too clueless to realise that the Wii was a flash in a pan fluke success.

Neo/Scorpio/PSVR/Oculus/HoloLens...this is what people want now. High tech hardware (combined with high tech gimmicks) that blows everyone's socks off.

Nintendo releasing another gaming system with half decade old hardware bundled with another waggle controller or an EyeToy copycat camera or a Fisher Price touchscreen controller....will be the death of Nintendo!

Dude your fanboy is showing.

Horizon DOES look a lot better graphically but I'm pretty sure even you know this is not a fair comparison.

Comparing a GIF to the worst screenshot that Nintendo released. Doesn't really hold weight.

If NX is in the same realm as Neo and Scorpio, it's going to flop. Hard.

They should aim for a box at or around the specs of the base PS4... and they probably are.

Dude your fanboy is showing.

I am a MASSIVE Nintendo fanboy, but I am really beginning to get annoyed that my favorite franchise of all time (especially considering we only get a new Zelda around every half decade) graphically looks like a joke compared to what's being released on other gaming systems.

And I felt the exact same way with Twilight Princess and Skyward Sword (my gosh...playing SS with those shithouse graphics was a nightmare).

I would actually be OK if the NX had specs comparable to the PS4.

The problem is rumors suggest NX is not even using x86 architecture and not even as powerful as the XB1.

Plus we now have Reggie going on record saying "the NX is not about specs, but all about the games", which is code for yet again another inferior and outdated gaming system.

I still can't play that game purely because of the art style and graphics. Absolutely atrocious.

This game looks nowhere near as bad, though. I guess my expectations for Zelda/Nintendo graphics though are really low.

You'd think that if they knew Zelda would be an NX title they would have tried making it look next-gen.

I actually agree with your statements, but your examples are extremely poor. You should have picked flattering pics or gifs from the two games. Not the absolute worst acreenshot out there.

Dude, you could at least compare it with this:

You would still had a good argument, sinze Horizon looks better because of the better hardware (Duh), but your cynicism took the best of you and made your argument something we can't take seriously.

Oh and Zelda makes up for graphical power with character design and art style.

Nintendo is smart, they choose some cartoony cel shading graphics due to the limitations of the hardwear.

This type of grapics looks very good IMO, it also stays true to the series overall graphics. I think it fits Zelda perfectly and i cant wait to play this. Do i want it to look like horizon zero dawn, hell no!

What i want from new hardwear is more stuff on screen, foliage, enemies, dust and debris. More awesome effects to create an even more atmospheric game. Polish the AA and make the game less blurry, better textures too. This is what I feel is lacking a bit in this game. It's good but it's not super awesome good. NX must improve on the game or I won't buy the NX

Regardless of whether or not the NX version is graphically superior or not (I hope it is) I've been thinking about how well this game will age. This graphical style has the potential to age as well as the Wind Waker IMO. The game looks great already but will scale fantastically whether via NX or an emulator 10 years down the line.

I would definitely be disappointed but it isn't a deal breaker for me, the game isn't going to become less fun just because the graphics aren't improved.
