Would DS have won if PSP had 2nd analog stick?

Games > hardware specs

So no.

Games are influenced by things.

I mean, were games not influenced by DS's touchscreen?

Anyway, I would say no. Didn't DS basically become popular because of games like Brain Age and Nintendogs?

To the OP: I wouldn't say the 3DS is succeeding because of the DS. It is succeeding because of it's price drop and influx of games that people actually want to play. Wasn't it performing basically the same as when the DS launched?

PSP needed three analogs and a second d-pad. No seriously, PSP needed a decent analog. BTW Nintendo DS did better because of the better software and the casual gamers.

Also: I've always felt that the closer a handheld is to a console the less it stands out or at least the less interesting it is. The Game Boy was really close to the NES as I recall, and while that was successful I felt it was more interesting in the second half of its life which was also when the SNES dominated instead, and afterwards the GBA/DS were vastly underpowered compared to relevant consoles while the DS and 3DS have unique gimmicks (touch and 3D) AND the 3DS will be vastly underpowered compared to the Wii U, even if it probably won't stick out like the DS compared to the Wii.

Meanwhile the PSP was practically a miniature PS2, and the Vita's similar to the PS3, though that at least has unique features... that have been a mainstay for tablets/smartphones for awhile now, aside from the back pad stuff that's probably going to be in a similar position as the Sixaxis was for the PS3.

I'd say the sales of the PSP without CFW would've been much worse.
Software would've probably either risen some or stayed stagnant, and that may be more important than high hardware sales. Would it matter if a system never sold more than 5 million if somehow games reliably sold to 100% or near enough of the users?

...I need to go ly dow
I undestood what you ment. It was more of a "joke" arguement (hence the smiley face) that the question you said didnt mention anything about who it won over, while the question in the OP does. It is pretty obvious for people on this forum that your question is referring to winning over the DS even if it isnt mentioned, but the question in the OP just specifically mention it that the PSP would be winning over the DS. But i mentioned, i think both questions would work just fine =)

How is the PSP having a second analogue going to decrease demand for games like New Super Mario Bros, Mario Kart, Nintendogs, and Brain Age?

To those saying Vita losing to 3DS proves that this is a non-question, I believe the market is much different now than it was when DS and PSP first launched. 3DS success is largely a result of DS success.

3DS can be purchased as a REPLACEMENT for the DS as you can play your entire DS library on it.

PSV can't do that because they didn't include a UMD drive and people who paid for UMD's once really don't want to rebuy those games again. So PSP owners are for the most part happy to keep gaming on PSP.

Considering the "analog stick" it had already sucked.

No.

Maybe if they were more like the Neogeo pocket one then yes.

I played my PSP significantly more than my DS, but I don't think a second stick would have helped it at the time.

Controls were certainly one of them, but there were other hurdles that Sony had to overcome.

Sony never properly carved the PSP on the same audience than Nintendo when Iwata started to push games like Brain Age and Nintendogs, so I don't think so.

I think the better question is what if the PSP had a touch screen. Wouldn't have changed the outcome though.

PSP would have crushed DS if it had two sticks.

I know for a fact that me and all my friends and my friend's friends would have bought a PSP instead of a DS if it had a second sctick, i bet my life on it

Really?

"What should I get? Well, there's the DS, that's got lots of good games... and then there's the PSP with- oh wait, wtf? Just one analogue stick? Bullshit. I'll take the DS with the D-Pad and no analogue thank you very much. Two analogues or die. Get money and fuck bitches."

"But mommy the PSP has 2 analogue sticks...."

Nope. Don't think any kid ever would say that. They wanted a DS for Nintendogs, Mario, Pokemon etc.

The whole console style games on the PSP idea would of been a lot better had it had 2 analogs. They also should of started with digital versions of PSP games early in its life also.

Second analog sticks are way over-rated, especially the Vita's. I hope the revision has sticks with grip and more resistance.

To answer the OP, if the PSP had a second analog would have not changed the results one iota.

Simple question... or is it?

EDIT: To those saying Vita losing to 3DS proves that this is a non-question, I believe the market is much different now than it was when DS and PSP first launched. 3DS success is largely a result of DS success.

Its slow and terrible start says you are wrong. Its games. Its always games, its never not been games, never.
