Would you ever own a gun?

I don't need firepower when i'm rocking these guns:

You'll love the 10/22! It's so much fun to shoot. Hopefully you don't live in a restricted state and you can have the 30-round magazine for it, because you got through 10 rounds pretty quickly with that little plinker!

Awesome. I actually live in a relatively gun-friendly city, so I don't think there would be any restrictions, but, as always, I'll check it out.

Not a good idea for me to own a gun because of my major depression and suicidal ideation. If it wasn't for that, I'd have no issue owing something like a shotgun for home defense. I've shot guns at the range before, it's fun, but I need guns the same way I need razor blades, not at all.

I don't understand this. There is no shortage of any kind of food, especially in the US which has ridiculously high meat consumption rates. Why do you feel the need to blow the brains out of a deer, venison, Buffalo, whatever to get food, when it'll be easier and cheaper to go to your local supermarket and butcher and get whatever cut of meat you want?

Good luck finding wild venison at a supermarket.

Don't see any reason to. I've also never seen a gun in real life. Police don't even carry guns on themselves around here.

I know lots of people find it fun shooting guns at ranges but I have zero incentive/interest in doing that. Maybe I'll find it fun if I tried it out but I have zero interest in even finding out.

Sure I own a bunch mostly for range shooting. I own a Marlin XL7 in .270, Marlin 795ss .22, Springfield M1a Loaded, Taurus Pt1911 .45, and a Beretta 92a1. Looking forward to going hunting in the future as its something I've always wanted to get into.

It's always a fun time going to the range with friends and family on a nice day.

You would be killing a wild animal that is part of the local ecosystem and is probably responsible for a pack or family. Whereas the cow that was slaughtered for your steak, was domestic livestock, bred and raised for the sole purpose of meat consumption. They are not part of the natural ecosystem of prey/predator etc.
.

I'm pretty sure deer is considered an invasive species and the hunters help thin the herd, so hunting is actually good for the environment believe it or not. The by product of this is that 1)you sell the meat to a local butcher or 2) you consume the meat yourself.

I own a few. It's not about whether you NEED one or not. I certainly don't need one. For me it's just like any other hobby but with more safety precautions. Target shooting is fun, especially skeet shooting.

I has:

Mossberg 500 shotgun
Browning Citori Lighting shotgun
Beretta 92D Centurion handgun,
AK-47 with bumpki stock
Taurus PT111 G2 handgun
Remington model 33 .22 rifle
Winchester model 250 lever action .22 rifle
Mosin Nagant 91/30
Rugar .243 bolt action hunting rifle
A few others that I can't think of off the top of my head.

All are locked away until they're used for target shooting.

Why do you need an assault rifle?

I don't. Yet since they're very fun to shoot and (shockingly) don't turn you into a homocidal maniac just by being around one, I still choose to own one. What a concept, right?!

Yes. I own a few.

Ruger 10/22, custom made AR15, and a Glock 17. Would like to get a pump-action shotgun in the future. Target shooting is a 'blast' and I like to be proficient with them.

Why do you need an assault rifle?

Yes, I own four actually. A 1911, mosin nagant, mossberg 500, and ruger 10/22. Looking to get an m1 garand next.

I only do target shooting. Shotgun is mostly for home defense

never felt the need. if I feel like shooting something, well theres plenty of video games for that. for home safety. there is baseball bats and cell phones and home security systems. all can help protect me with out the uneeded guilt of taking a like no matter what the situation I dont need to mention all the studies and dangers of having a gun in your home ect..

Despite growing up in a household in which my stepfather was a gun enthusiast (owning countless firearms, does his own reloading, attends gun shows, and is currently president of the local sportsman's club/shooting range) I personally find no compelling reason to own one myself.

*shrug*

No because I infinitely increase the chance of being shot with my own gun or having someone else shot with my gun. Statistically, I'd be less safe. Other uses like range or hunting don't overly appeal to me and would be better served with archery if I did get into them.

When I'm older and retired I think it'd be nice to have some property with a little makeshift shooting range like that youtube guy so yeah, I could see myself getting into guns somedays.

Why do you need an assault rifle?

Assault Rifle Vs. Semi-Automatic

AR-15 does not = Assault Rifle.

What Constitutes an ‘Assault’ Rifle?

Merriam-Webster Dictonary defines “assault rifle” as “any of various automatic or semiautomatic rifles with large capacity magazines designed for military use.” The keywords here are “designed for military use.”

If that definition doesn’t quite cut it for you, here’s how David Kopel (via the Washington Examiner) describes it in an article in the “Journal of Contemporary Law” based on a definition from the Department of Defense (emphasis added):

As the United States Defense Department’s Defense Intelligence Agency book Small Arms Identification and Operation Guide explains, “assault rifles” are “short, compact, selective-fire weapons that fire a cartridge intermediate in power between submachine gun and rifle cartridges.”[21] In other words, assault rifles are battlefield rifles which can fire automatically.[22]

Weapons capable of fully automatic fire, including assault rifles, have been regulated heavily in the United States since the National Firearms Act of 1934.[23] Taking possession of such weapons requires paying a $200 federal transfer tax and submitting to an FBI background check, including ten-print fingerprints.[24]

Many civilians have purchased semiautomatic-only rifles that look like military assault rifles. These civilian rifles are, unlike actual assault rifles, incapable of automatic fire.

Based on these two definitions, since AR-15 is designed for civilian use, it therefore doesn’t fit with the definition of an “assault” weapon. This then begs the question why the association is being made in the first place.

I enjoy firing guns for fun, but I'm not sure I have any real reason to own one myself, and 2 very important reasons not to: my daughters. It's not a risk I'm willing to take as a parent, and I'm not sure I'd be comfortable even with the maximum level of precaution.

Once they're older and don't live with us anymore? Maybe.

Don't get me wrong, I know how brutal the meat industry is, and just what kind of conditions they live in. But you going and hunting a caribou to eat won't change anything except for the fact you just personally took out a caribou from the wild.

Edit: OP, where I live, we're starting to get a lot of shootings. Guns are being smuggled in from the US. I wouldn't want a gun, because there is no reason to own one. I don't want American gun culture taking hold here, which is what your post reads like. You dont need a gun but want one to display or so that it looks cool etc. I love the fact I can go into malls, theaters, schools, walk down the street comfortable in the knowledge that the other people around me aren't carrying guns either.
I hate factory farming for one. These are wild animals that have lived freerer lives than any supermarket meat.

I also like conservation and the great outdoors. Hunters do more for these locales than any other group. Also on side of venison can feed a family of four for months! That's much more ecologically friendly than factory farming.

Many of these species do not have natural predators anymore, we eradicated wolves, so there is a problem with overpopulation of these species. Hunting helps, but there is still a huge problem with these species.

Here's a clip explaining my thoughts.

There is zero reasons for me to own a gun.

They are expensive, ugly, the chances fo me using is -10% and I am not a fan of guns.

I would if the laws allowed it here, but it's heavily restricted to weapons I don't really have an interest in and besides, the only reason you'd ever have as gun here is for leisure, which is what I'd want it for. Shooting targets. There's zero gun crime here, literally. So no need for protection either.
However I also agree that the law here shouldn't change to make it easy to get one either because there are too many people who cannot be trusted in their own body let alone with a gun.

I used to do .22 rifle shooting but, eh, it didn't really give me what I wanted.

Yes, but I don't think everyone should. I would like to get either a 12-gauge pump shotgun or a .45 semi-automatic handgun for home defense (when I live in a house as apposed to an apartment). Both myself and my girlfriend know how to handle firearms safely, so that wouldn't be an issue. I doubt I would ever keep one in my vehicle, nor would I carry. Just for the home, which I think is appropriate.

Yes, there are two pistols, a shotgun and a rifle in my house.

After my brother was stabbed in a home invasion I got smart. The rifle is for hunting tho

I lean towards no, but I'm a little torn. A part of me would like to have one locked up somewhere in the house just in case I felt that my and my family's safety were at risk, but I'm also nervous around guns and generally not a fan.

Yes, I own a few.

A 9MM SD9VE
A .22 1911 for fun
And the classic 10/22

They are always kept locked when I'm not at home or am out of their immediate vicinity.

Range shooting is fun.

Yes.

I'd practice at a target range and also keep it at home in case of home defense. Not that I look forward to the situation or believe that it will likely happen to me, but "be pepared" is a good rule to live by.

I think between me and my boyfriend we own about 13 different firearms and i keep a 1911 my dad gave me for my 16th birthday behind the counter at my store and a M&P 9mm in the nightstand next to our bed.

That being said we both are sticklers for firearm safety and own 2 firearm lockers in our garage and keep trigger locks on all firearms in our home. The only gun we ever have loaded without a safety lock is the 9mm in the night stand and we lock it and put it in the safe whenever we have company or kids over. I love hunting (2-3 times a year and yes i eat what i kill) and i love the range.

If you lived in a place where those retard deer wait until the last god damn second to jump in front of your car you would change your tune. In fact a local township in my area doesn't have enough hunters so they are trapping the wild deer and just murdering them lol.

All the hunters in the world don't kill enough deer to make up for the wolves.
