Would you ever turn against humanity?

i'd totally be that dude who sold out in the matrix. those people can live in caves, i'll have fame, money and blissful ignorance, thanks.

I already posted but I have to say something:

Really OP? You had an interesting thread then decided to post a western hentai as your alien? C'mon, you derailed you own thread.

They should look like this:

1465502811474

so people wouldn't jump in just to bone space aliens

And then at the end of the Twilight Zone episode, the aliens would explain that you failed their test, and your readiness to turn on your fellow man demonstrates that humanity is not ready to be blessed with their superior knowledge. They then leave you and the other survivors to attempt to survive on an Earth that is utterly destroyed, with limited resources.

I'm not sure "turning against humanity" is how I would describe the scenario you described. You constantly emphasize having more contact with the aliens would benefit humanity in basically every way with no drawbacks, and there are other humans who have joined the aliens.

What a bunch of dicks.

Dr. Breen would be so proud of you guys.
The Combine never cared for our well-being, though. If these aliens are benevolent, I for one will be glad to grab my towel and leave this planet behind. I can always come back when the war is over.

That steak looked delicious. I would totally betray someone in real life to have a bite :P

I'm not even conservative and I have to say this is some odd liberal wet dream fantasy

I was really trying to avoid that, but I guess I failed. My worldview is very liberal so I couldn't help it. In hindsight I should have held back from name-dropping Trump.

Trump-like leaders wouldn't even allow them to settle even one person on Earth.

Touché

This is the problem with this thread. The aliens are wise benevolent sexy nymphos who have already won. It's a no-brainer.

Killing millions or even billions of humans is a no-brainer?

I made this thread because I'm genuinely curious about the question I posed, but I don't take myself too seriously. If people want sexy aliens, let them have sexy aliens.

I'm not sure "turning against humanity" is how I would describe the scenario you described.

It could definitely be argued. Some people would argue that humanity doesn't need intervention, that progress can and should be made without alien help. And don't forget the horrific cost of "winning" the war on the alien-allied side — I'm sure many people believe that no cause is worthy of sacrificing billions of humans for.

In your scenario, I'm trying to maintain peace by siding with the aliens, while ignorant people are declaring war against me. How is that me "turning against humanity?" Did the Union "turn against America" when the Confederacy tried to secede?

In a heartbeat.

At that point, humanity wouldn't really be worth saving, at least not the ones who don't support the alien race.

At some point, and it's a pretty hard to agree upon one, but certain actions do justify certain means.

Humanity has been turning against itself since the stone age. Few more million deaths won't hurt if it means alien bliss. Fuck earth hand me that laser rectal probe.

This feels like a very cynical and contrived sci-fi premise of what we're kinda going through now with global warming, and I'm on the side of the people who know what they're talking about. So yes, I'd side with the aliens.

Edit: I want to point out that while I do see a scenario in which Trump-esque leaders being the heads of the most powerful countries is a bad thing, it's not meant to show that humanity is irredeemably doomed in this timeline. Humanity has gone through some very rough eras full of dictators/emperors, but we've moved forward still. There's always hope for things to get better without alien help.

I attempted to create a scenario that would be ethically questionable in either direction.

Well you made it sound like they were as good as dead no matter what I do!

Yeah... Once again I'm sorry for the poorly written scenario. The idea is that the aliens could wipe us out but don't want to. The only reason they're sticking around is that they have hope for humanity; that enough of us are willing to show that we see the big picture and wish to join them as friends/allies. But since the pro-alien side is vastly outnumbered, winning the war would require they used drastic measures like nuking capital cities. The aliens would then help us rebuild. If the pro-alien side was crushed, or if it never gained any momentum, the aliens would accept that the situation was hopeless and leave forever.

In your scenario, I'm trying to maintain peace by siding with the aliens, while ignorant people are declaring war against me. How is that me "turning against humanity?" Did the Union "turn against America" when the Confederacy tried to secede?

There are quite a few people who would say yes.

Where I'm from we hang traitors and others guilty of disloyalty. So no, I wouldn't.

But I'd gladly kick the hatch open.

When you are going down the route of "Progress, no matter the cost." You are no better. I ask of you - When you are willing to use nukes, are you the good guy?

That's not really the scenario the OP presented though.

The aliens, who are technologically superior to us, send peacekeeper reinforcements to defend their settlers. They kill humans only in self-defense, but take way more casualties than necessary because of their refusal to use weapons of mass destruction. They try to reason with us. Some people listen, and an anti-war movement gains momentum. This leads to humans persecuting and killing other humans for betraying their own side. Finally, a human civil war breaks out between those who wish to kill and expel the aliens, and those who see the aliens as our friends.

The anti-alien movement murdered people for their political views, then started a civil war that could potentially kill millions or billions of people. There is virtually no reason to feel loyalty to these people. Even if you feel you should be loyal to humans as a species, there are humans on both sides.

^ Interesting answer, but I'm still unclear on which side you would pick in the war (or if you were to go neutral).

Sigh... I'll bite. They're like this:

Yes, this is from a porn comic that I found on Reddit.

Going to need the link to this comic, purely academic of course, to study aliens and stuff.

OT - Depends, humans can be real brutal sometimes. I'd go with whatever feels 'good'

Lmao did you post Incase's aliens? Jesus.

They're called Puazi by the way.

People asked for sexy aliens and that's the first thing that came to mind, embarrassingly enough.

When you are going down the route of "Progress, no matter the cost." You are no better. I ask of you - When you are willing to use nukes, are you the good guy?

That's a very good question. I tried to make a scenario where you'd have to think hard before giving an answer.

That's not really the scenario the OP presented though.

Certainly. But far less people will die if the anti-alien side wins (since they are the majority, and wouldn't require nukes).

But then again, who knows how many lives would be saved if the aliens advanced our medical knowledge to the point where we could cure cancer, AIDS, and other horrible illnesses?
