would you hire a man or a woman as your personal assistant?

First instinct is to hire the man because I don't want to be tempted and end up getting myself into a lot of trouble. I also think the man would be more ruthless and heartless and get shit done.

However a woman and her charms would probably be more useful to me in getting shit that I want done, so I'd choose the woman.

I would let my wife hire my assistant. If that is sidestepping the question, I would hire a male friend and pay him extremely well.

If I was worth a billion dollars, why would I want to fuck my employee? You could be getting multiple, Grade A ass every day if sex was your goal. I would want someone that could get the job done and nothing more.

opposite sex. You can go drinking with them and be-friend them. No competition. If now sexy times they could at least coffee clutch for you and give the other perspective on situations.

What if you didn't have the chance to interview them and they both had the same CV/resume, but one of them was named Steven and the other was named Tyrone? What then, GAF?!
What's their last name? If it's Steven Abdur Raheem and Tyrone Fitzgerald? Then I've got quite the problem on my hands.

Unless I'm misinterpreting the OP, some of you are missing the point of this whole exercise. You can't add some arbitrary personality quirk or make one more trustworthy than the other. All things are equal! The only thing of note differentiating the two is their sex. Therefore the question boils down to "which sex would you hire".

yes you got it!

knox, Solo and JGS all gave valid answers to the question because they are based on gender preference based on particular gender traits, eventual bias toward one or the other, or simple preference because of legal or personal reasons.

Assuming both candidates are equally presentable looks/speaking ability wise, probably the woman. I think generally both men and women are more empathetic towards women.

Woman

As an engineer I spend 90% of my time with dudes already. I would bring in dat feminine touch.

JGS said:
Woman, but she would be older with tons of experience in her field. I'm at the top so I need a good worker that doesn't care about promotions more than raises. Guys tend to be too ambitious.

Replicant answer is also valid.

Serious answer: it'd depend on the qualification and if there's a good chemistry (no, not that kind) between the two of us. If we can't even work together well, what's the point of hiring one?

plus i really think is worth quoting Lagspike_exe

Being a billionaire means you can have any women in the world. Hiring a female PA just to bang her is flat out stupid.

I think this is the biggest factor actually. Doesn't matter if they're male or female, as long as I'm going to get along with them.

Or am I supposed to go the generic response? If so, "Guys in suits: daaaaaaaymn". Though come to think of it, both would suck in their own ways. I hire a guy, then people will end up seeing him as possibly more important than me. I hire a girl she is likely to be a bitch.
both answers are good shanshan
i totally agree that getting along is the most important thing, but the other you mentioned are important as well.

JGS makes a good point. i dont want someone too ambitious, man or woman, thats looking to eventually replace me one day. just someone who is good at what they do and are comfortable where they are

well i don't really think that there are many chance for your PA to actually replace you

Woman. They're more often objective to things that I say or want to do and a smart woman can often think of things at an angle I hadn't thought of yet. Plus... boobs.

Exactly. I just wouldn't want them to leave period. I want them to be satisfied with where they're at rather than going somewhere else.

However, rereading the question, I probably couldn't pick the age, so I would still be at some risk. Still would lean toward the woman though.

To be perfectly blunt - a female. And for background sexist reasons too. Can't help it.... the ideas seems "more comfortable".... In practice though, I'd never intentionally discriminate based on sex.

Either is fine. So long as they're on top of my meetings n' shit.

you must not have a crew of homies. I'm not sure how having a bro as an assistant could be bad. he can make sure biz is taken care of, then watch the football game, wingman at the club or jump on the sticks for some MvC3 and chill. That's max comfort. And the wife at home has nothing to worry about.

i meant that as someone who aspires to reach a similar position in the same or another company. like JGS said again, i want them happy and satisfied with where they are and not want to leave.

a position like that would require a ton of trust and that person would be privy to a ton of sensitive information. im not sure if id be comfortable having someone like that go elsewhere

I already had a woman assistant before.

so you are basing your decision on the fact that you don't want to try something different?

thinking about that, yeah i totally get your point... but i think that such high-end PA would have to sign a ton of NDA, so you shouldn't really have to worry about that...

if the new company is going to use his knowledge against you, you can always sue them.

woman. when clients call, they should know that they are not talking to me and when its a female, she can flirt with them.

Neither are trustable.

But if was up to me and I had money I'd hire a group of assistants.

I think it's because the work that seems.... intimate... it's hard to describe.

It seems different from the work of my underlings too... See for your underlings, in order to be an effective authority, you have to have a level of aloofness - you want to strike the balance between fear and respect. But a secretary's work is much closer to you. Since your secretary knows all of your information she has a level of insight others don't have (and you don't want them to have). It seems more like a relationship you would have with your girlfriend or wife than your "homies".

Do not discriminate. Just bang both of them.

Real Answer: Man. Women are too catty and bitchy and I would worry about dealing with backstabbing because of something stupid. Even though I typically am good at avoiding those situations and the women who start them. But with a Man I would have to worry about him resenting working under a woman and never being able to make it to the top. Also the appearance of having a man working for you may help the appearance of a woman who is running the company. Subconsciously, but it still may make a difference..

Yeah, I'm surprised second reply (after "cause I want to bang her" of course) wasn't "because I don't have to pay her as much."

Women work harder for less money, statistically speaking.

Who would I hire? I dunno. If my workplace was all-female I might hire the guy as a diversity hire. (I work in education; this scenario is possible in my field.) If there were enough guys around then it would be the woman because you can't borrow a tampon from a dude.

well most of my girl friends said "man" because they think a girl would be too much competitive toward them.

Interesting that women feel that they would have competition with other women. I've never felt particularly competitive with other women, at least not based in the fact that they are women. I might feel competitive about wanting to be the best with my particular skills, but when it comes to that I don't pay particular attention to either men or women.

I would probably choose whichever I felt my personality meshed the best with, since surely even if they have the same qualifications they would not have the same personalities. But I would prefer a woman. A woman might be able to understand my point of view the best, and so be the best to represent me.

An old man. I'll make him legally change his name to Alfred.

"Sir, you've a important phone call"
"Alfred, I've fallen down"
"This isn't the best time"
"SAY IT"

I tried applying for personal assistant and administrative assIsrant jobs before going back to grad school. 500+ resumes, one interview, no job. I am a man. Just going from these statistics, can you draw any conclusions?

Not really, we have no idea who else was applying for those same jobs. Many people might have similar experiences to yours for positions that are not typically exclusive to one gender (like myself). All I know is the job market is shitty.

Man so I can send him on missions to find models for me to bang. If he does a good job, I might give him a few ladies on the side.

Cause I'm generous like that.

Is it possible that you were overqualified?

I'd choose a woman. Partly because I am much more open with women, and it's just easier for me to talk to them. And also it would help to gain a woman's perspective on any sort of decision I would need to make. With another guy there then you'd have to go find a woman that you trust and that knows as much bout your company if anything comes up. It just helps broaden the perspectives you could potentially have.

I already look like a famous Korean personal assistant:

So I would choose a woman. I respond better to women at work as it is anyway.
