Would you like an Ambassador Program for the Wii U?

Some people don't seem to remember that the Ambassador program was done because they chopped $80 off the price suddenly as a panic measure after half-finished OS software and an utterly pathetic launch library was all the 3DS floated by on for several months.

Wii U's a completely different situation, especially at this point.

Edit: Best thing, assuming it were feasible, would be a "Trade Up" program, where you can unlock digital versions of some games that (theoretically) will be ported to NX using your Wii U, maybe for a tiny fee. Smash 4 NX, 3D World NX, Mario Kart 8 NX, with the launch/on-disc DLC as applicable. Might be exploitable, but hey. Gotta find a Wii U to do it in the first place.

Sure I'd want free games, but the memory of Wii U's first year has already dulled in my mind. Even if I went over a year without buying a game for that system, the experiences I've gotten with it over the past three more than justified my purchase.

Didn't people joke around about Pizza Hut gift cards a few years ago?

I think the OP just worded that poorly and more meant what incentives can they give Wii U owners who feel burned to early adopt the NX. Not something given to Wii U owners on the Wii U like the 3DS program after the early price drop.

Even then, no. A new console is coming, that happens.

I mostly agree. Though if it has no BC and gets a few Wii U ports, it would be nice of them to have some way of giving those ports to those who own the Wii U versions some how. But probably not going to happen given how they've made people re-buy (or pay to upgrade) VC games etc.

Personally, I don't care as I'd just skip the ports and wait for true sequels anyway. Unless true sequels never come and they just turn Smash, MK and Splatoon into games as services with the ports being the starting base anyway.

The Wii U will have lasted 4.5 years. That seems like a reasonable time frame for something that sold so poorly
The ambassador program on 3DS was because quickly after launch the system dropped $80.

4.5 years with such an anemic library... Sounds like a good reason to give us an Ambassador program imo.

An ambassador or a reward program for people who buy an NX early in its life, sure. An ambassador program for a console nearing the end of its life, no. Even then they'd have to do what they did with the 3DS before it would make sense

Wait, why would a Wii U ambassador program happen, especially at this point in time?

The 3DS ambassador program happened because Nintendo dropped the 3DS' price by a third only a few months into the system's availability, what would be the impetus of a Wii U ambassador program?

I'd be happy if they'd just fix their damn emulators. They at least got M2 to do the GBA one so surely they know how good it should be.

I still consider all the (almost) free stuff they gave away the first year or so exactly that. VC games for 30 cent a pop. Free Wii Fit U. The Deluxe Promo and more.

I'd like my library of Wii U virtual console games to carry over to NX first, and also any cross-gen Wii U/NX games which might get rereleased, provided you bought them off the eShop.

I guess Amiibo will be forwards compatible though.

Something I'd like and that might be beneficial for nintendo in converting current 3ds/wiiU holders:

- Give a reduction (25%) for WiiU remasters if you have a WiiU console linked to your Nintendo Account
- Give an ever bigger reduction (50%) if you digitally purchased the WiiU game
- Let me bring over all my VC titles (3DS/WiiU)
- Let me bring over savegames from my WiiU games for HD remasters
- Let me play all my 3DS software (if they go ARM, that shouldn't be a problem) and transfer all my digital 3DS games.

Well... instead of this, I would like them to let me do an account transfer for all my VC and digital purchases on the Wii U to NX (without me buying AGAIN the same VC on the NX)

All of this. If they want their biggest fans, who undoubtedly bought a Wii U, they should be making the transition as painless as possible to the next generation where software overlap is concerned (and we know remasters and VC will be a thing again).

The ambassador programm was in response to a 80€/$ pricedrop for the 3DS, nothing even close ever happened to the WiiU.

I wouldn't be suprised if they offer some incentive (say 20% off if you buy the NX version of Splatoon digitally if you already own the WiiU version digitally) for upgrading to NX games, but there won't be anything beyond that.

Whilst a proper ambassador program is pretty unreasonable given the console came out in 2012, it'd be pretty cool if there was a little incentive for those who owned a WiiU to upgrade.

Wii U didn't set the world on fire but it will have lasted for 4.5 years.

That puts it in the same lifespan range as Gamecube or original Xbox.

That puts it far beyond the lifespan of consoles like Dreamcast.

Ambassador program nope.
