Would you like RE7 to bring back Ink Ribbons/Typewriters for its save system?

I'd be up for save rooms /inventory storage again.

Maybe have save spots be some sort of PC workstation instead of a typewriter, or depending on the location, a mix of typewriter and whatever new tech.

Really i'd just like a return to slower paced gameplay, a focus on puzzles/riddles, and less big blockbuster action moments.

This makes me so sad. Do people really care about hidden crap that adds nothing to the game? Gone are the times when the hidden shit was awesome and made you feel like it was worth it to go off the path.

That's because if it's anything really special, they feel they can make more money by selling it separately as DLC nowadays. -_-

Worst part of the ink ribbons wasn't that they were limited or that they were hard to find. It was that they took up inventory space.

I like the save rooms. I don't like ink ribbons putting additional pressure on inventory though. I'd prefer if you could save as many times as you want to. Suspend/resume would be a nice additional bonus feature, to make the game playable in very small chunks without impacting design decisions.

The game could still keep track of how many times you did it, and reward those people who go through the game with zero or very few saves.

It depends on the game they develop. I didn't mind the restrictions it brings to inventory, though it should probably be slightly retooled to fit the modern environment and perhaps less obtrusive on most difficulty modes. The exact model from RE0-CV would probably be too off-putting to be viable as the only means.

It wasn't particularly thrilling for me.

Mostly i kept the ribbons in the chest, and just brought it out to save and put it back in, so just time wasted through loading screens.
Never i found myself out of ink ribbons, more over.

In RE0 it was a bit more annoying, because you didn't have interconnected chests, but it wasn't really an interesting nor deep mechanic, at least in my experience.

Yes, bring back the ink ribbons and typewriters!

I actually loved the constant threat of potentially losing a lot of progress. It kept me on my toes and made entering every new area nerve-wracking, just like survival horror should be!

Anyone who want's the typewriters back to me just wants a Resident Evil Dark Souls game. In the sense that you would have actual worries if you couldn't get to a typewriter. The typewriters didn't add anything to RE4 which is the easiest comparison to make as to how a future game would use them.

I think there's a difference between gameplay mechanics that make you feel more vulnerable to make a game feel tense and ones that are just a hassle.

Barely enough ammo, few healing items, respawning enemies, even? to a degree, savepoints:I can see all of them falling into the first category.

Having to own an item to save at specific locations, however, is definitely a hassle. Mastering a difficult area with minimum health left only to find out that you can't save is in no way fun or adding to the experience, it's just annoying. Of course, Capcom could make this less painful by providing plenty of ink ribbons, but then the question is why they should have such a system in the first place.

Other than nostalgia, there is no reason to bring back this antiquated system.

I think RE4 is not a good example since the typewriter system was designed specifically around an action TPShooter game and therefore was very generous (no ink ribbons as well).

For RE7 i'm assuming that Capcom would be willing to make a honest return to the series survival horror roots and not just a superficial one (used for marketing purposes only to win back the old fans they've lost) that just hides another shooter game underneath it.
I'm basically talking about a more threatening game that keeps the same combat system as RE4 and RE5 but giving you a lot less ammo and making melee combat a lot less powerful.Environments should also feel threatening with traps and enemies surprising you. It's in a game like that where i believe that a return to the old ink ribbon system (or something similar) could add a lot of tension and strategy to the gameplay something that the series is in desperate need right now IMO.
