Would you purchase a: Wii U Basic 32GB @ $249 / Wii U Deluxe 128GB @ $299?

No, there was a reason why I sold mine... no software. I'll re-buy one when it has a lot more games, Smash included.

Needs more games and not just games in general but stuff that people really want to play. Quality first party and...okay just get some real good first party games out there. A great Mario title, Mario Kart, Smash...etc...those all need to be out among other titles for it to be really worth it.

The 32GB model sells for 289 euro here (just one store, other ones have prices ranging from about 350 to 365). But that's still too much. But if they cut it to 250, I might think about it.

If Nintendo upgraded the HDD to that, I would so buy the 128GB SKU because I feel that's how much the Deluxe should have cost in the first place.

Probably not a good idea to ask Gaffers this question. I love the guys, but they're kinda cynical when it comes to Nintendo. XD

As for your question. I think software and price are more important than storage, though I do hope they do a storage refresh soon.

This Sunday I'm going to purchase a deluxe Wii U for $350 just for Pikmin 3, so yeah, I'd jump at that price. I'd actually wish Nintendo would drop the price just fifty dollars this week so I can save some more money, but alas. I'll also be buying a new Wiimote and nunchuk.

Looking forward to playing Pikmin 3, ZombiU, and Donkey Kong Country Returns: Tropical Freeze this year.
Target & Best Buy are going to have $50 gift cards with Wii U purchases starting Sunday so that helps a bit right?

Still too expensive for me. I want to see it under $200 and preferably somewhere around $100-$150. I think it's still thievery they charge what they do for PS3/360.

The highest proceed system can't be over $200-249.

Not considering WiiU until $199 or lower*.

*with a new Zelda game.

No no, that's my point.

The OS is that bad? My Macbook Air boots completely on OSX in about ~7 seconds with SSD.

Yes the OS is that bad. With a previous update they were able to cut something like 10 seconds over the infamous 25-second loading time for launching a game/accessing settings menu. It should be understood that it's clearly not optimised yet.

If Nintendo upgraded the HDD to that, I would so buy the 128GB SKU because I feel that's how much the Deluxe should have cost in the first place.

It's not a HDD. It's a SSD. Unless you go all digital, you won't ever need 128 GB. Games don't require installation. The memory is not filled with useless things like music/movies/etc. as present on Microsoft/Sony upcoming consoles.

Needs a software library and a decent software future to go with the price cut. It isn't worth it at any price to me without both of those things. Internal storage is irrelevant since I can buy 2TB external HD and call it a day.

While a lower price is nice. It's not a big problem for me.
The main problem for me is still the lack of software.
Perhaps I will get one at the end of the year ,but not now.

Why does this thread remind me of the scene in The Simpsons when Homer is toying with Flanders about buying his family stuff for ridiculously low prices whilst Flanders is facing hard times due to his Leftorium going badly.

Still - no software, no dollar for Nedddd-yyyyy

I'd pay any price for it if it had ten games that I would want to play , so far there are only 4 and 3 aren't out yet . It's a nintendo console so you know it's eventually gonna have a few gems in its collection. I'll just wait till around late 2014 and hope they redesign the gamepad

If I didn't already have one, then no. I got my Basic for free, and I only bought a used copy of Nintendoland for $20 that I played with my family once. The only game I'm going to buy for it this year is DKC: Tropical Freeze. (Not a big Mario platformer fan and I'm not getting WW HD for $50, fuck that.) I don't think I'd pay $250 just to play DKC, unless it was a pack-in. They need to make the Wii U as cheap as possible and get better games out faster without nearly year long droughts.

I'm even in favor of them making the Wii U gamepad an accessory (or Deluxe bundle) and packing-in the pro controller (and maybe even a Wii-remote plus) instead to lower the cost of the console. The Basic model needs to aim for a $200 price point like the Xbox 360 or pack in a game and sell it for $250-$260 like the PS3, since their real competition is those consoles.

I want one but I wouldn't pay more than $199 w/ a pack in (NSMBWU). Bumping up the internal storage won't sway me at all. It has very few games and a very shaky future. They really need to sweeten the deal for me to take a chance and invest in the system.

FWIW I think the PS3 and 360 are overpriced as well considering their age.

Not sure about the price in $, but if they release a bundle with Zelda: Wind Waker HD or Mario 3D World and price it around €199,- to €249,- this Holiday season I'll pick one up in a heartbeat.

To play which games?

I wouldn't even want one for free.

Hahahahah! My man is hating, I can dig it.

I would absolutely take a free Wii-U. Sheeiit, why the fuck not? lol

Nope, Ill bite at maybe $150 or so after all the heavy hitters are out. (3D Mario/Zelda/MK8/Smash)

System is pretty much non-existent to me till all these games drop.

It's not about the price, its the value of the product and what's on offer to you once you have made that entry point. Right now there just isn't enough value there.

There are games I want to play, but $250 or less for deluxe box with a pack-in that's not Nintendoland or no buy

As someone who would actually like to own a Wii U and the inevitable quality first-party titles, I don't understand what Nintendo is doing. They essentially priced the basic system out of existence. They promote digital downloads, then supply a paltry 32GB of storage. They charge a premium $350 due to the gamepad, which currently has dubious value for gaming. They knew the system was coming for years and still had nothing but a modified Wii game on release, with other games TBA or scheduled for next year.

I probably wouldn't---well I would, but just to try to sell. :D

I just don't have time for keeping up with games on more than one console and there's nothing on it I really want to play anyway so it would just be cluttering up my TV stand, coffee table (with the big game pad etc.) and serving no real purpose.

no games no sale, Nintendo shouldn't even launch next console without third party support and new franchises out of the gate. they got lucky with the Wii, it should have had same sales as the WiiU is having now.

Not now, no. Maybe when the system has a more diverse library that is uniquely Nintendo's. There aren't enough first-party games to justify a purchase in lieu of either next-gen consoles at its current price, IMO.

Maybe for $250. 80% at $200. Needs more games. Only interested in Wonderful 101 and Bayonetta 2. Nintendo's lineup is weak IMO. Mario 3D World and DKC TF don't have me amazed, though DKC TF looks really good, it just isn't enough.

There is a 200% chance Nintendo will not cut the gamepad from any console bundle, so stop dreaming about having a cheap, gimmick-free, HD Nintendo system. $249 will be the lowest MSRP we will see on this console for a long while once we do get a price drop (and it will happen when MK8 launches IMO).

I would, but then again I would at it's current price. I'm not going to sideline my interests because I'm waiting on some arbitrary lineup of games. The current list is enough for me.

No.

I bought an N64 because at first I really liked Mario 64 and Zelda. What kept me there though was I really liked goldeneye, shadows of the empire, perfect dark, killer instinct, 1080 snowboarding, wave race and rogue squadron.

Gamecube came around and while it wasn't as diverse a first and second party lineup I eventually grabbed one and really enjoyed f zero, resident evil 4 and the remakes, and metroid prime.

Wii came and got it for wii sports and nabbed galaxy for a one and done. Little else interests me.

Now comes along wiiU and it seems the variety of experiences I once enjoyed with Nintendo is dead in favor of refreshes of the same "safe" franchises I've played for over a decade. Nintendo has lost all its diversity and with it has probably lost me for this gen at the minimum.

I'd pay $300 for a deluxe if it included a real game that I actually want, and Nintendo finally gets their shit together with linking digital purchases to user accounts instead of systems.
