Wow, GameCube games look GORGEOUS on a decent PC.

This is a very old screesnhot I made, around, 3 years ago. It never stops to impress me the amount of details the game actually has, visually.
OMG. Just... wow.

I've never been able to get Wii and GC games running at acceptable framerates on higher resolutions. Maybe I'll give it another go though.

Yeah, it's all so clear to me now. :P

As a really poor basic explaination usually information is processed like this;

Input -> CPU -> Output

But when you have to emulate another environment you end up with something like this;

Input -> CPU -> Translation Layer -> Emulation Layer -> CPU -> Output

Basically a ton over overhead is added because it's not running using a familiar format. It's the equivalent of trying to read a book in spanish when you don't speak the language. You have to continually reference a translator (unlike a human a computer can't memorize these things to ease the burden).

Damn, the Paper Mario, Metroid Prime, F-Zero and Wind Waker shots are GORGEOUS.

Paper Mario was almost exclusively Vectors if I recall correctly, and Wind Waker was cell-shaded so upscaling works very well--you're just changing the demensions on color-coated blobs. I was definitely surprised by the F-Zero image, the track is pretty detailed. Otherwise they just look like slightly clearer GC games.

They look like GC games with a higher resolution. HUDs and textures look like ass and geometry is primitive.

Pre-rendered back drop and high resolution 3D assets don't mix. I'd rather emulate the games in the resolution it was meant to be with those kinda games.

Other than that, full 3D games look excellent.

holy _____ thank you for reminding me of the dolphin emu b/c I just bought a new setup (i5 3570 and gtx 670) which should be able to crank this out. so pumped!!!

But isn't the GPU what defines the "playable" resolution?

Ha ha ISWYDT

People with troubles:
For most games, you sometimes need a specific Dolphin version with specific settings for them to work.

For instance, for playing Xenoblade I have a Dolphin version built specifically for my CPU with additional hacks specific to Xenoblade. And it runs flawlessly. But if I try to run, say, Paper Mario TTYD, there's sound errors everywhere.

If someone has trouble running a game they should definitely hit up the Dolphin forums, lots of helpful people there who probably already solved your problems.

Lol, it wasn't intentional. My question stands.

Oh well. Dolphin is heavily CPU bound since it has to simulate all the little intricacies of the GameCube/Wii CPU (Which is a different type of cpu from what is normally found in a PC, Nintendo uses PowerPC vs. home computers use x86/x64). Comparatively, the graphics are more similar and thus easy to emulate since it's a Give GPU triangles and textures -> tada kind of deal.

Dolphin relies on the CPU much more the GPU, you should be able to run most games with your CPU.

GPU is LESS important in emulation perhaps, but still pretty damn important. Maybe some mid to higher end APUs will do okay in a few games, but most integrated graphics will not be enough for dolphin even at native resolution.

Waait what?

It's possible to use the dualshock 3 as a wiimote?

Yes. If you use the motioninjoy drivers with the playstation 3 setting, then it should show up when go to configure an emulated wii remote. From there all I had to do was tilt the controller to set it. Secret Rings is the only game I've tested with it though.

But seriously some of those you guys have posted look better than some games that came out this year.
The power of 1080p and a clean IQ.

The only games where I actually agree with darkx10 are those with low-res pre-rendered backgrounds that are little more than a blurry mess when blown up to decent resolutions (i.e. Baten Kaitos). Because of this, N64 games actually tend to hold up better in emulation than PS1 games.

But yeah, some of the GC and Wii games in 1080p can absolutely hang. Skyward Sword looks excellent.

Decent pc? I have a GTX560ti and 6 core CPU but I can't run Dolphin well at all (on Super Mario Galaxy).
Well, you are clearly doing something wrong, because I can play galaxy just fine with a i5 (a 4670k, more specifically).
EDIT: and by "just fine" I mean nailed down 60 fps at any resolution I tried.

You guys are really confusing me ._. Guess I will just have to wait for the postal service to deliver the case for my new PC, mount it and try for myself.

GCN games really don't look all that great upscaled besides a few exceptions (we can all agree wind waker), but it's mostly because of those low res textures.

Sadly there aren't nearly enough high res texture packs for GCN/Wii games... Wii games have surprisingly good textures in most games (see Galaxies, Zelda:SS, etc) and thus hold up incredibly well even when scaled.

Yeah, I was surprised that Smash Bros Brawl has so high resolution texture
See for exemple Bowser textures.

It's 1024x512 !

And I remember that FF Crystal Bearer has also very detailed textures, the main character has a beard (a very small one) and in native resolution you can't notice it, you need higher resolution to see some details.

Man it bums me out that my PC (which is a rather powerfull PC) can't run Twilight Princess (or anything really) at 30 FPS. I love that game so much, but my Wii broke and I don't have a GC.....

Am I doing something wrong?
I have a Intel i7 920 and a GTX 770 but I can't run either Windwaker or TP at a stable framerate
