Not a WWE fan or TNA but read the hype on the web so thought I should watch the Joe vs Angle match and not really sure why people are saying it was MMA style or even Shoot Style Pro-Wrestling for that matter. It was a good pro-wrestling match but nothing great. If you have only grown up on WWE all your life than yeah this looked different but for someone who watches Puroresu (Japanese Pro-Wrestling) this was nowhere near a UWF/Rings style match. It seems Kurt enjoyed his matches in New Japan against Nagata and Nakamura and wanted to put on a Strong Style match.

It was nothing like a Hybrid style match at all. At the start they had some submissions but it lacked certain things. Lack of real clinching and actual grappling for position on the ground. The takedown attempts were to simple and I dont think I saw one sprawl or one bit of takedown defence. The strikes were ok not great but ok.

The reversals were stupid and typical Kurt Angle. The way he got out of the crossface into the ankle lock looked silly. Joe then gets out of the Angle lock back into the crossface and it looked too rehearsed. there wasnt that much variety in the submission attempts. Very same as same as. I didnt see a lot of different techniques.

Maybe harsh but I'm judging this against 'shoot'' style from Japan and this was nowhere near that level. I would even say Joe vs Kobashi from ROH was a better match than this.

MOTY 2008 - No Fcuking way.

Shingo Takagi & BxB Hulk vs KENTA & Taiji Ishimori and Morishima vs Misawa were better than this.

This week's taped RAW from London, England drew an alarming 3.2 cable rating, rounded UP from 3.18.

Last week's 3.3 RAW rating likely suffered from the NCAA men's basketball championship game, but there were no excuses when WWE executives saw the 3.2 that landed on their desks this afternoon.

Here are a some RAW numbers from the past for this time of the year:

April 15, 1996: 3.1
April 14, 1997: 2.2
April 13, 1998: 4.6
April 12, 1999: 6.3
April 10, 2000: 6.2
April 9, 2001: 5.4
April 15, 2002: 4.8
April 14, 2003: 3.4
April 12, 2004: 3.8
April 11, 2005: 4.1
April 10, 2006: 4.2
April 9, 2007: 3.9

Ouch.

The best thing Styles ever did with WWE is that one promo he cut about male cheerleaders and calling them superstars instead of wrestlers. But I think he was kinda doomed from the getgo tbh. His style doesn't require a color man, but it does require a show format that isn't so ADD-driven. New ECW isn't that show.

Poll at PWTorch.com

What's your pick for the dumbest moment in Mike Adamle's debut as ECW play-by-play announcer?

When he called his broadcast partner "The Tazz" instead of "Tazz"
When he called Shelton Benjamin "Shel-don"
When he called a Kane boot to Morrison's face a "knee to the chest"
When he called a legbar by Miz a "figure-four leglock"
When he described Miz reaching to tag Morrison as "Reach out and touch someone, Michael!"
When he stammered and couldn't remember Jimmy Wang Yang's name
When he said Kofi Kingson's "reputation preceded him here" because he got an ovation from the fans
When he got around to calling a cover after the kickout
When he called a Kofi "dropkick" a "leg kick"
When he said Knox's strategy against Dreamer was to be "methodical" and "put him away early"
When he called Miz & Morrison the "WW Tag Champions," leaving off the "E"
When he called Miz "Mike the Miz"
When he said you have a tendency to look at Morrison and say he's built like Tarzan but punches like Jane

I might have to start watching ECW now for the comedy value.

friend went to the RAW show at the O2 in London. I Have been showing him some Japanese Wrestling for the about a month solid just so he could compare and see the difference and why I love Puro so much.

He enjoyed the show but to him it was just a show and didnt feel like he was actually watching an athletic contest. Said the Matches are way too short..

I think I am slowly turning him away from WWE and into a puroresu fan.. :)

Meltzer, Alvarez, and others are saying that ratings are lower because of DVRs. I don't really buy it.

If you look at it, ratings are down for everything. There are alot more viewing options today than there used to be. Combine that with the fact WWE really doesn't have anyone with universal appeal or outstanding charisma, then you have ratings going down. You cannot deny the fact that many wrestling fans have moved on to MMA. But I think that RAW getting a constant 3.5-ish rating is good enough.

Personaly, I don't watch WWE nearly as much as I used to. I can't tell you the last time I looked at an entire episode of RAW. I moved on to MMA and actually I find sports, discovery channel, national geographic, and nfl network alot more compelling than what WWE or TNA have to offer. I will read spoilers, run-down and even listen to podcasts, but the same recycled storylines, same matches, etc. just is boring to me now.

With that said, I am going to Wrestlemania next year for sure.

Yeah, I barely watch RAW live anymore either. That and Smackdown I fast forward through the entire thing.

On another note, this is why Kurt Angle will not make it to 50.

While the Joe Angle match wasn't match of the year it definitely was a pretty damn good main event. It showed something different to American audiences and actually provided a different alternative that to WWE.

TNA should just go full blown strong style. That'd be fucking awesome.

I know this is usually crap, but one wrestling website is promoting a story in their premium section that Beth lost her title to Mickie this week due to some in-ring incident while the WWE was on the overseas tour. Has anyone heard anything about something like this or is it just a "Subscribe to our Website" scam?

They were sort of getting there with the X Division at one point, when AJ and Joe were at the top of it. That was TNA's highest point.

*Nods head in agreement...*

I'd tell anyone to get the Best of the X Division DVD sets. You can get them cheap and are loaded with just some amazing matches. The second focuses a lot on the Joe vs Daniels vs AJ feud. That feud was ASTOUNDING and produced one of the best matches of all time. Unbreakable 2005..... triple threat main event that was for the secondary title.

PS: Due to the gif a couple posts above.. I just have to say that Mickie as quite possibly THE perfect body. Just wow,,,

I would have loved to see a match between Gail and Mickie.

Do you remember Gail in the WWE - she was smoking hot with that trenchcoat and glasses look - damn why did they fire her?

Did she get fired? I figured she just didn't get offered a new contract because back then she couldn't work even the shortest match without badly botching moves. She's way better now, though.

They did? Damn I missed that.

Well, I'd still love to see it down. I really enjoy strong style. I get more emotionally involved in the match for some reason.

I'm assuming this doesn't count as advertisement, but the WWE has opened up a forum on their website.

I can only imagine the most intelligent and well thought out conversations taking place there.

Remember guys:

King Ken Kennedy, so he can start a racist shtick as WWE tries to use shock to spike sagging ratings.

I called it!

Dish Network finally decided to add USA HD and Scifi HD, so I finally get to see a Raw broadcast in HD. I fear it's going to be shitty tonight though :(
