More ECW on Raw news

ECWWrestlingNews.com is reporting that Tommy Dreamer, Paul Heyman, Terry Funk, The Sandman, and Sabu all arrived at RAW this afternoon prior to the pre-production meeting.

ECW stars are expected on RAW tonight and it should be good seeing as they are in Pittsburgh PA, the hometown of Kurt Angle as well as a major hotbed for ECW. If more names come along, we'll report them here.

I am just thinking that there is no need for ECW right now. There is enough wrestling on TV right now as it is. What is ECW going to offer that the other shows don't? I am sure the "WWE Style" will be in effect. I am sure that ECW can't 'bring the house down' when they are taping right before or after Smackdown. How would that make Smackdown look? (Though Smackdown has been entertaining lately). I am not going to condemn the show yet. I will have to see a few episodes before I do that, but just right now, I am not to hyped about another wrestling show on TV. WWE could change my mind though. Seeing some under-used Smackdown talent get to showcase themselves could be a good thing. We will see.

ECW is Vince's way at stealing the growing TNA audience.

Oh man.... RAW is going to own tonight.

Edit: Possible Jack Black cameo on SmackDown?

tonight is the night I officially setup a season pass for RAW on the Tivo. normally I remember to record it singlely, but after forgetting now two weeks in a row only to come in late to it by 45-60mins, and the fact that I have been watching and loving it since right before WM.... yeah. you get the picture.

totally expecting tonight to be the best RAW this year. Helps that I completely mark out every monday night.

Will tonight finally be.....THE night?!

Thats basically a list of all the ex-ECW guys I care about the least. You could also add the Dudleys to the list if they were available.

that would be well and good if it were on the same damn day. TNA fans are stil going to watch TNA.
ECW is just Vince's little way to milk something dry before he kills it once and for all.

part of me agrees with this, part of me sees vince looking for a way to catapult wrestling back into the high life. I don't think it's any secret that somewhat recently he has been looking for a way to bring back Attitude Era numbers. I am willing to bet there is a chance he sees ECW as a great way to leverage WWE and wrestling in general. Almost in an NWO/DX stable way, only on a larger scale.

of course as has been said before, that would require lots of common sense, something the company hasn't been terribly known for recently.

who knows.. though over the next three days we will know a hell of a lot more..

Well, if Vinnie had the damn stones, he'd fire his daughter off the writing team. If he were to look back, their demise came right when she took over and started booking "WCW in 2000" bad shows. And for ****'s sake, get those old nickelodeon writers out of there and get some WRESTLING MINDS in there. They have no ****ing clue how to utelize talent anymore and hide weaknesses.

Well, I am excited.

The next few weeks, even if it does spawn something terrible, has given me something to be excited about: the return of ECW. It might be good, and it might be bad. But it has already done one thing. It has got people talking.

So far, the ECW segments on RAW are some of the best segments on the show in a long while. This is a good indicator about the direction of what ECW will be about. Sure, in two or three weeks, ECW may suck. If it sucks, I will be the first one to say something about it.

However, I believe that ECW may be an opportunity to have wrestling go in a different direction on a large scale outside of the sports entertainment realm. I think ECW is a sign that Vince has realized that there are fans that enjoy pro wrestling, not just sports entertainment. The fact that he let Joey Styles do a worked shoot on the subject is testimony to this.

My belief is that Vince wants both to dominate the market. For the sports entertainment fans, there will be SmackDown and RAW, just like usual, written by the same writers in the same style. There is an audience of people out there that likes a wrestling product that is driven more by outrageous storylines than by a realistic wrestling product. That is where ECW would come in.

ECW will have storylines, but they will be more like the old school ECW storylines rather than the outlandish ones that WWE has. Not only that, but it would be driven more by the wrestling, and the skill shown in the matches, rather than by outlandish characters. Of course, there will be some hardcore matches and people thrown through tables and shit like that to appeal to the niche bloodthirsty fans (like I am sometimes :D) but it will be a good product as well.

Of course, this probably won't happen, and in three weeks I will probably be proven wrong, but hey, I can hope, can't I?

Vince needs to bring back Russo,Ferra, and Heyman as head writers(Russo-Raw, Ferra-SD, Heyman-ECW), re-apoint Jim Ross as Senior VP of Talent relations, and give Steph a position that doesn't involve writing or talent development. '

And while HBK is my favorite wrestler ever, HHH is in my top 5, and I'm an old shcool ECW fan, the thing i want more than the DX reunion, or the ECW comeback is for CM Punk to debut SOMEWHERE and get a good push.

i think my biggest problem with it is that it's all so rushed. There's NO build up. It just got started 2 weeks ago and nothing has any sort of build to make it seem special.

Take the Rey and Sabu match. It was just a thing of "Oh, BTW...Rey's defending his title against Sabu." Um ok, so why should I care?

All I can say is i hope you're not proven wrong, because WWE needs something in there to stir shit up and get them turned around.

Considering the recent news of Glenn Jacobs retiring, does anyone think that the "Old Kane" angle is their way of replacing him but keeping the gimmick going?

That was a fake report.....for the third time.

I see. Oh well, I wasn't told three times. No, but seriously I should have noticed it earlier in this thread. Duh.

I was just caught up in all the ECW talk and I read a report about the Deacon showing up and I made that post spontaneously because I was a little surprised that they might be keeping the angle going.

It would be a bigger problem if Sabu won the title. I see what you are getting at.

The promo on the RAW side has been brilliant. The promo on the SmackDown side has been terrible. But wait, isn't that how RAW and SmackDown have been in terms of overall quality lately?

I think someone will get a belt at ECW that is ECW. Either they will pull a Shane Douglas and throw it away for the ECW belt, or it will allow for ECW to get some exposure through title defense on WWE shows... more than likely it will be Rey, making the situation worse on the lack of promotion.

Oh well, at least they are both former ECW people.

You realize you're only setting yourself up for disappointment, right?

After missing Raw for 3 straight weeks, the last ones I was able to watch have been terrible. And I'll be able to watch tonight. I...I apologize.

I was wondering where you went...

WWE holds a Vengeance press conference at the Bobcat Arena in Charlotte on 6/13 at noon with Cena, HHH, Michaels, Edge, Flair, Lita and Todd Grisham.

I guess HBK will either come back tonight or next week, since he's going to be at the Vengeance press conference next Tuesday promoting SOMETHING.

I would agree with you, but further diluting the wrestling audience is most certainly the way to not do it. The 1998 wrestling base could support four primetime wrestling shows. 2006? Not so much.

I can dig-at least with what they've hinted at so far-the in-ring direction they're taking ECW. But adding another show to compete for viewing time, in addition to further thinning out the available talent pool just seems short-sighted. Plus, launching another primetime show at the beginning of summer, when people (in theory) are more likely to be outside? There are only so many hours in the day, and Vince ain't getting anymore than the two he gets out of me every Monday. I'll TiVo ECW, I guess, but it'll continue to be RAW and TNA for me.

Speaking of which, it speaks volumes (to me, at least) that the most passionate and heartfelt promos about the return of ECW have been coming from the Dudley Boys.

Raw will be blah. Can't give you a good Raw tonight when it's not only a PPV week but also another hype show 48 hours away. :lol
Next week's Raw will be great because Raw will have to sell you another PPV that Sunday :lol

Trust me......

Hey, I thought posting writing jobs was MY department!!

And btw I don't see how DX doesn't take major steps in forming tonight. HHH is obviously not going to do the deed, so he'll get jumped by the Spirit Squad.

Odds on DX forming: 65%

hopes dashed!

That is the funniest denial ever. :lol :lol :lol

Anyways, Eminem, the RAWs you missed were great. While there were still squashes and crap, there was awesome DX teases and build-up. In addition to that, the ECW stuff was awesome.

Last weeks did SUCK though (outside of Paul Heyman vs. Foley in a debate... very good segment). Hopefully HBK will be back, and we will see the reformation of DX.

the pre-show Ross Report has JR saying over and over again that "It would take something big to stop HHH from kissing Vince's ass tonight...something surprising!!111" Yeah, we get it JR.

Ugh, I'm going to miss the east coast feed tonight, ill be home for the west coast feed though. So if DX is revealed, remember I was here in spirit!

Crotch chops follow the male cheerleader beatdown :D

your not going to be in here during commentary :(.

Anyway guys ECW's in the hizhouse tonight, hopefully Jazz is unleashed on Torrie.

I just figured out when Steph releases her spawn (AKA Lovely Baby) on July 27 2006 she will be gone for a while and the wrestling buisness will hit a new peak! She can't ruin ECW!!!

...anyways Declan McMahon should soon have a on screen role soon. He is 2 and a half and has yet to fire someone!!!!

Apparently they hired a nanny and steph was reported to only want to miss 2 days tops....not weeks, days. She'll still be on the helm of Smackdown post birth, so wishful thinking loses :(

Man, she's dedicated to her quest of destroying the wrestling business.
