WSJ: (According to sources,) Sprint to Get iPhone 5

On one side: The masses will now embrace sprint.

Hooray sprint!

On the other side, the sprint network will have to support the masses.

Fuuuuuuuuuuuuuuuuuuuuu

Nooooooooo! Don't take away my unlimited data! I really hope Sprint's network gets improved and will be able to handle all the new users without having to do tiered plans. I have family members I know who will want the iPhone 5 and that's fine by me. Gladly sticking with the Photon 4G, it was a huge jump from the Hero. Also, Apple needs to give T-Mobile an iPhone so we can keep AT&T and T-Mobile separate.

I will be deciding between the Nexus Prime and the iPhone 5 this October! I can't make a decision yet because Google has kept Android 4.0 features and information locked down so well thus far. If they can make Ice Cream Sandwich more polished than iOS 5 then I'll gladly go Android again. Currently, Android 2.3 Gingerbread (the latest version) is a year old and a little stale. I have to say that jumping ship from my Nexus S 4G to a shiny iPhone 5 looks incredibly appealing. The ball is in Google's court to win us Android users over again now that we have a legitimate alternative option.

What an exciting time to be out of contract with a dirt cheap Sprint Unlimited Plan.

How is Sprints network on the east coast? If I travel from Philly to New York will I have a good signal throughout the trip or will it be dropping every 10 minutes?

Sprint's prices are so fucking cheap that if their network is decent where I live then I would love to switch. I travel so fucking often though that I need something works pretty much everywhere.

I would LOVE to ditch AT&T though and save some fucking money...

One step closer to prepaid? Cheap iphone on Virgin next please.

We just got the Motorola Triumph, definitely a good phone. I'm not sure if "Apple" would want to cheapen their brand by going prepaid though. I'm loving Virgin though, great prices, good service, and data etc. etc. for $25 a month, can't beat it.

This good news now I can leave att with their crap throttling and move to spring unlimited data

Doesn't sprint offer unlimited texting and data together?

Do you currently have a smartphone? if so, look at the sensorly app, to see what real world conditions are for your area.

Option 2: When you join Sprint, you have 30 days to get 100% refund if you dont like the coverage

Option 3: If you dont trust the refund deal, get a Virgin Mobile prepayed phone and test it out....they use the sprint network. I believe boost is also sprint.

Hmmm, my decision to get a smartphone became more complicated.
Outta these phones which one would you guys recommend:
iPhone5
Samsung Galaxy S2
Nexus Prime
HTC Evo(?)/3D or their next iteration.

Yes. Virgin and Boost Mobile do use Sprint's network.

New to the party is COX Wireless (sister company of Comcast) which also uses Sprint's towers and in return bolsters its network by sharing its Internet landline.

Rumor was floating for a while that finally Sprint will convert its IDEN towers to normal ones in the fall, so additional coverage will be here soon.

iPhone 5.

This is enough for me to switch to sprint

SERO users are stuck with older phones AFAIK.
I think he's referring to SERO-P (Premium) which is a plan that costs $10 or $20 (4G) per month more than the original SERO plan ($30/month)

Still a bargain though for a single user.

Yeah I have a iPhone4 on AT&T. Will check out their coverage area and that app, but I wanted to know what people's real world experiences were like.

I mean it is so much cheaper compared to AT&T I feel like there has to be some catch...

Have to see The iPhone 5 and Nexus Prime first.

Nexus Prime or iPhone 5 but it will probably become easier to decide when you actually see the phones.

So, should I just buy an Unlimited plan from Sprint now + a throwaway phone, then switch over to the Iphone? I feel like this is the last time this will be possible.

It doesn't depend on the hardware. Both the Nexus Prime (designed by Samsung) and the iPhone 5 will be amazing hardware wise. The Galaxy S2 doesn't come with Android 4.0 so I wouldn't get that. I don't like HTC phones in general so I don't have an opinion about the EVO.

It's a simple, iOS 5 vs Android 4.0 decision (for me at least).

Thanks for the responses guys. I will wait and see final specs/os features before I make my decision.

I've been having real problems with Sprint's 3G in the DC metro area lately. So much so that I've been contemplating leaving after over 10 years. I'm excited about the idea of the iphone coming to Sprint but it has some real work to do if the network is going to survive the bump that the iphone gives it.

If they can stabilize the network than I can't see a downside.

So which is the best iPhone carrier now?

As far as data plans, Sprint is the only one that has an unlimited plan and the store reps will actually SHOW YOU what apps let you tether for free using a microusb cable (wireless tethering requires a separate data plan though). It's not known whether the Sprint iPhone would have a wimax (4G) radio but I wouldn't get my hopes up since Apple likes to have incredible battery life in their phones and wimax does drain the battery more quickly than 3G. I'm sure by next year they'll have LTE/wimax.

The stock certainly saw a nice bump today, up over 10%. Will probably only keep rising until the news is announced for certain.

I've had the first Evo and now I have the Nexus S, and I prefer the iPhone4 to both. Assuming all things being equal in the next generation of the 3 phones, I would have to say go with the iPhone5, but anything could happen so I'd say just wait and see when the phones are actually out.

As for this news, I have two thoughts:
1. Please don't fuck with my Unlimited Everything Plan. That's the only reason why I'm a Sprint customer. If they go to tiered payment plans, I'll be livid.
2. FUCK YES!!! Please be true, I want an iPhone

And you thought sprint's 3g network was slow now lol

God i hope this has a wimax radio in it. I get really good 4g coverage with sprint here in Vegas.

It's only a matter of time till sprint switches to tiered data caps now.

I wonder what options the iPhone 5 will have for 4G with Sprint? WiMax?

I'd be interested in getting a new iPhone, but I still have a year left before my upgrade arrives. Maybe they'll actually implement 4G in my area before that time. That's the only reason I went with the Epic.
