An Oscar-winning actor who is also a tech entrepreneur, stadium-filling rock star, fashion icon and successful Silicon Valley investor? Welcome to the high-flying life of Jared Leto

Two quotes concerning Blade Runner:
Denis Villeneuve, the director of the new film, says the inspiration for Leto’s character was David Bowie. “I needed a very charismatic, magnetic presence, someone with the aura of a rock star,” Villeneuve says. “But I also needed a great actor, because the lines he had to say were quite Shakespearean.” The character is also blind, and true to form, Leto—who once hung out with homeless junkies in Manhattan’s East Village to portray a heroin addict in Requiem for a Dream—dove in head-first. “We all heard stories about Jared, how he transforms into the characters,” Villeneuve says. “But even this didn’t prepare me for what was to come.”

Not content to simply act blind, Leto decided to become blind, ordering customized contact lenses that made his eyes totally opaque. “He entered the room, and he could not see at all,” Villeneuve recalls. “He was walking with an assistant, very slowly. It was like seeing Jesus walking into a temple. Everybody became super silent, and there was a kind of sacred moment. Everyone was in awe. It was so beautiful and powerful—I was moved to tears. And that was just a camera test!”

Oscars and other awards are so passé.
These days, I only judge an actors' talent by the number of used condoms they have sent to their co-stars.

Your move, Dame Judi Dench.

NOTHING WRONG WITH ME

Yeah we all like to give Leto shit but we fuckin' looooove it when DDL moves out to a cabin for months to play Abraham Lincoln or made people push him around in a wheelchair for My Left Foot.

I mean, she rose to fame before Hollywood liked to kiss and tell online so much, do we know she hasn't done it already?

Yeah, nothing wrong with some method acting, the whole Joker stuff just felt a bit artificial to promote the movie. Putting in opaque contacts to act blind seems pretty straightforward in comparison.
This dude reminds me of Hansel, Owen Wilson's character from Zoolander.
Omg, i couldn't quite put my finger on it but that's totally what it is.

Yeah, Leto just seems like he would be insufferable. I have nothing to back this up on, other than his stupid ass behavior on Suicide Squad. Just kinda gives off that vibe.

Before Suicide Squad was a thing I remember seeing stories from time to time about him being an ass to fans and people he worked with.

I mean it's kind of impressive but makes me think of Olivier's comment to Hoffman to "just try acting".

Every method actor has grown a reputation for being difficult, from Brando to Hoffman to DiCaprio, born entirely from on-set stories about their internalized eccentricities. But we still get good performances out of it. It's not like anybody who wants to see their movies also has to spend time with them in character.

Oh man Villeneuve, no just no stop that., you were the chosen one.

Let's not forget that Heath Ledger decided to lock himself in an apartment and sleep no more than two hours a night surrounded by...well...Joker paraphernalia for months to prep for his turn as Joker. Turns out Method Acting leads to extreme behavior.

Did GAFers hate Jared Leto before Suicide Squad?

Yes, in Fight club I disliked the prat, when in his band he comes across prattish sometimes in interviews or comments he says onstage, I do like one or two songs, and I don't wanna hate the guy, but then he puts his foot in it and says or does something that makes me cringe.

American Pyscho though, he kind of suited that part, and for this role in Blade Runner 2049, I wanted to forgive him for everything he ever did that makes me think he is a prat, but Denis Villeneuve does it instead.

With this guy though I will seperate the Art from the Artist, because it's not like he has done anything wrong such, just makes himself look like a fool.

He was cool to the fans at a small Thirty Seconds to Mars concert I went to in Hollywood. Came out to the merch table after the concert and signed stuff for awhile. My wife still has a signed A Beautiful Lie CD.

This was a while ago though, before his band made it real big. Maybe he's more of a jerk now. Although it's not like he was a nobody, even then. He was an up-and-coming movie star, having starred in Requiem for a Dream and Panic Room.

Anecdotal, I know, but thought it worth adding to the discussion.
