Can't believe I'm more hyped for Nintendo's first mobile game than any other thing they will release for Wii U and 3DS on what's left of 2015... and they still continue being dead silent about this. So frustrating.

You're only hyped now because you don't know what it is. Just you wait.

I'm still going with Nintendogs, and expecting the reactions here on GAF to be mostly: "this doesn't excite me, but will probably print money in the casual mobile market".

Mmmm. Hype levels decreasing. Watch it being an annoying Mii-based game or something like that... :(

Or Animal Crossing probably now that this IP is very popular nowadays... bleh.

I think the same team also does the Rhythm Heaven games, so they aren't sitting around doing nothing.

Hope they can bring a decent IP to create buzz with the fact that Nintendo does mobiel games now.

Odds are they will. I mean, the competition in the mobile space isn't that fierce in terms of quality. And with Nintendo's name and IP, their games will be far easier for people to notice, rather than getting lost in the abyss that is the app store. Nintendo could easily make a decent number of games every year that are fun and sell well.

Not that this is the direction I want their company to take on a wide scale, just that it's likely Nintendo's mobile efforts will be of a higher quality than whatever "mobile developer of the month" makes.

I don't think that's true at all. Nintendo have a real fight on their hand in the mobile space. In some sense, I think it's the most competitive market they've ever entered.

Captain Toad could end up being a really good mobile game.

Don't expect too much
Don't get your hopes up

Yeah, I'm imagining something very safe, even boring, just to get Nintendo out there.

I'm pretty ignorant to Nintendo's plans, so can someone give me some perspective? Will they put SMB3 on apple's app store, google play, amazon and let me play it on my ipad/nexus/kindle and apple tv/android tv/fire? That would get me excited, but I doubt they'd do something like that :/

There was a rumor about Amazon providing hosting for Nintendos new eshop. But that would still be for Nintendo devices only. But mobile games might be available on other devices through the eshop once they start putting them out.

VC games with virtual buttons would be basically the antithesis of Nintendo's mobile plans.

They've explicitly said they're not putting existing content on mobile. All of their mobile offerings will be new projects designed explicitly for the platform. There are supposed to be 5 games launching by the end of March 2017, the first of which is Miitomo.
