WTF Expert Realism on Left 4 Dead 2? This is the worst game mode ever

I have been trying for hours, days, without bots, with friends, with bots, and I just can't seem to get past the 3rd level on any campaign in this game on this mode.

I want the achievement but holy shit this is just cruelty. You need the perfect combination of team coordination, luck, and enemy/item spawns to succeed.

Everytime I get close, the server craps out or people quit or we give up because we've been playing too long. Lady Luck shits on me from a great height in this game.

It is the most frustrating thing I have ever played. How the hell did you do it? We're doing The Parish.

I've still yet to beat L4D or L4D2 because I only play on Expert or Expert Realism in this case. Got stuck on the level where you're at the rock concert. Shit's hard as balls.

Luck, laughter, and the inability to be mad at video games. With friends, you can slap the shit out of Dead Center no problem. It's just the finale that may irk you...a lot.

You just have to move slowly and camp a lot. The special infected bots are uncoordinated so just focus fire them with your team before they come close.

We have mics. The problem is how unforgiving it is. One accidental bullet can incapacitate your teammate. I like playing with bots because they never accidentally hurt me and they basically function as a cloud of robotic gun sentries, but they're too stupid when it comes to healing people. :( ugghh

Is that the one where you have to get gasoline for that car. What a shitty misssion

Do well to keep positioning in mind for every teammate at all times, no inappropriate moves while guns are hot and above all else be really fucking good at left 4 dead.

Best game mode ever? Realism versus, actually.

I remember trying to do this with a group of friends as well and having about as much luck as you are. Mode is brutal and rightfully so, it's called expert realism for a reason! Not sure if we managed to beat it or not but it's nice to have a challenging AI mode where teamwork and coordination are really needed in order to succeed. It will make being successful that much more satisfying!

I used to rage more at versus. Now I rage because things are too easy when playing with the freebie players at normal. I need that rush of impending doom.
L4D3 is coming right guys ;_; ?

Ive 1000+ hours of realism expertise under my belt. Add me and I'll drag your corpse to victory.

Wow, that's a ton, haha. Playing with good teammates is essential.

OP back when I played a lot of L4D2 I was getting pretty good but ran into the same issue. It turned out that once I found some other good or better than me players via randomly meeting them in expert games things got much better. We played together pretty well and eventually beat them all on ER.

Not sure how good you are, but in my opinion you need to work your way up through the difficultly levels and be good at them before seriously attempting ER. When playing on Expert and ER with random players I found it was pretty obvious when people were playing above their skill level.

I like the degree of difficulty in ER, so many games these days are to easy and it's nice to have a challenge one in a while.

Friends who are good at the game are essential. But for my money advanced realism is the best balance, because you can get hella drunk while playing and still do pretty damn good

Anything past normal mode for me I have to play online. Bots just aren't good enough. Realism is definitely tough, you need good team work voice chat strategy the whole works. Have plans put in place if something happens and everything.

Back when I bought this game I managed to do all of them solo by speed running past most of the zombies. It took alot of trial and error but it is doable. I found it harder to do with npcs/people. If you are quick enough you can avoid most of the zombie spawns.

Man, I often die in regular Normal difficulty, so I can't begin to imagine how Expert Realism must be.

I couldn't beat the ending of Dead Center with 2 friends last night (already did it before, though). That's how much I suck, lol

The best way to play! Me and my friends used to stay up for hours playing! No better sense of accomplishment after finishing a campaign.

My favorite is when we also went for the Chompski achievement at the same time :)

Nah, it's not the worst game mode ever, but it's hard as hell (hardly surprising, it IS the hardest difficulty level in the game). Here's some advice (though you probably won't need it all) :

- play with friends only, with mics if possible
- Swamp Fever is, by far, the best map for this. You might want to avoid running crescendos, as camping is easier than running around while fighting hordes of zombies. SF is the only campaign without such crescendos, and the finale is pretty easy if you camp in the stairs on the right side of the house (when facing the escape route).
- make sure you can finish each and every campaign on expert with your friends before tackling expert realism. It's a pre-requisite, you need to to get used to expert. That way, you'll learn to avoid shooting your friends by mistake (which is crucial in ER, since you can't see your teammates glowing)
- always save healing items for when you really need it. Except in rare case, always save them for when you're black and white. When Black and White, ALWAYS heal straight away if you got a medkit. Never stay in such a state if you can avoid it. If there's not kit, ask your friends for pills/adrenaline.
- learn to recognise the sound cues when Special Infected are spawning (so that you can anticipate their attacks)
- don't be afraid to explore for items, but don't linger too long, you need to keep moving.
- try to save pipe/molo/bile for events/finale at all costs
- lots of other advice
- always make sure you only use the defib as a last resort measure. It is, after all, the only items, with medkits, that can make you go back to green health, so it's better to save it for last. Then again, as with medkits, you need to find the right time to use it, it'd suck if the whole team was swiped out because you were holding out on the kits/defib. It'll come with experience and lots of trials and errors.

Here, I don't know your level or anything, so there's probably stuff you already know/are already doing, so I hope I didn't came across as patronising or anything xD

Oh, and good luck in your endeavour :)
I'd gladly help you, but I haven't played ER in a long while, so I wouldn't be any help unfortunately...

Knowing all the glitches and infamous 'Jesus spots' really helped.

Yes, it's cheap. But at a certain point you just couldn't care less and want to convince yourself the time wasn't entirely wasted. I'm all too familiar with the disappointment of realizing you're entering your third hour of retrying a map, or when your friends leave... or when bots fail to do the simplest things.

Mind you, I got the achievement weeks after the release of the game. Where the 'Jesus spots' and glitches were still fresh and not-yet fixed by Valve.

Never played expert realism but from paying online some days ago smeone kept hammering home to only heal if your in black and white, dont even try otherwise

This is true. Hammering this into my friends heads was quite difficult, it took forever to get them to not heal after being downed once. Figured this out on the first games regular expert mode.

The Parish is possibly the worst one to pick given your choices. The finale would probably make you finally snap if you got that far.

As everyone else as said, play with friends and don't use bots. Even just one bot can screw you by wasting items and doing stupid shit.

The Team Versus achievement was the one I always missed(Ignoring the event achievements they added more recently since I quit). I either never had enough friends online, or alternatively the other team would just rage quit if you were winning. >.>

Expert Realism is legit as fuck. It's a fun mode. I've done each campaign this way tons of times with a mix of mic and no-mic friends. Hard Rain map 2 is a bitch, but once you get past that you're pretty much golden. Hard Rain in general is amazing, so it's good to see others think so, too.

It's spot-on advice. Also, healing before closing the safe room doors so you don't have to heal every time you get wiped.

i think there's a mod that supposedly makes the IA better and more prone to heal you..it's in the workshop i think..don't know if it works though

The mode itself isn't hard but it's how health is easily taken from you. One example is how 1 zombie(with 2 arms) takes 20 hp with one hit.

You need excellent cordination and teamwork to complete any campaign on expert. It will always be your fault if your team dies not the games, it's like Souls in that way. Item management is key as well, plan for when you need to use them etc

Honestly, mode is excellent, survival horror at its best.

Edit. Dead Centre is the easiest campaign I found, chapter 3 being the hardest part of the campaign.

I refuse to believe that it's always your fault. Some respawns the game is just unfair. Tank right outside the saferoom? Screw that. I'm restarting lol. Dark Souls is fair because it is consistent.

The AI director is a bastard lol. You need to be prepared for those type of situations, namely Molotov ready for when you approach the safe house. If you haven't had a Tank for a while, chances are you'll get one as you're approaching the end of the chapter.

Okay I need help completing this. Is anyone willing to join me?

I keep trying to do it on my own with 3 bots to no avail.
