WWDC10 Thread of iPhones and iProducts galore

not sure I like the idea of using a company’s marketing materials for the title of the thread. makes it all seem so … seedy.

for one, the existing thread has a great new updated OP so I don’t see why we need a new one.

second, if someone does make a new one, the title should either be plain or at least original.

Can you help me figure out why those characters are sometimes not displayed properly? I think it's one of the apostrophes...

I bet it’s the use of smart quotes and apostrophes. perhaps the iPhone has issues understanding the angled apostrophe instead of the straight down apostrophe.

I think OS X will insert smart apostrophes by deafly as part of the text substation package

I have smart quotes turned on in 10.6 so that my apostrophes and quotes are changed to the more typographically sound unicode variants that are curved inwards or outwards.

Check your font settings.

I have no problems with the quotes on Mac OS X, its only the iOS devices. The iPhone passed LC's test but the iPad failed it. Sometimes it works, other times it doesn't. hmmph

The first two failed on my iPhone. I don't get it.

Wait, now they all work. Some kind of loading problem?

iPad passed all three tests as well.

Weird that tobor is having problems on the iPhone.

Fix this shit, Apple! :)
 
What's everyones' view on phone insurance? And if you recommend it, what are some good places to go with? How long after your purchase can you get it?

Wait you bitch about ridiculous prices and then want OLED? I'd love to see the price for an OLED at that resolution (not that it even exists yet).

Interesting. That would imply it isn't a driver/SW issue with the new iPhone4 WiFi part, but a systemic OS issue?

I think the sole reason 9.2 exists is for iphone4 and ios4 compatibility.

My co-worker/friend currently has a white phone and when we both get the new iPhone he's going black this time. He cited that "white gets too dirty too quickly".

Maybe things won't be a problem because of the glass, but just something to keep in mind.
 
I am sitting on the fence between the 4 and whatever latest and greatest android is offering in the fall but I have to say, the fit and finish on both hardware and software is unmatched. not an apple fanboy so it pains me that there isnt some godly alternative. Nexus 2 prove me wrong please.
 
So the white is really an off-white color, right? It almost looks like the color cream. I might go with black but I'll miss being able to spot my phone instantly in my mess of a room since my current iPhone is a white 3G.

i had formated my main computer and put in a new hard drive and forgot to backup my backups, because my c drive was dying. Then i realized the hard drive is sitting next to me on the floor and i didnt format it. So i managed to get the backup off of it. I think im going to take the backup and load it from a mac tomorrow then ill have my contacts and 4.0 :).

That's a white balance issue with the cameras during most hands on videos. It's really a pure white if you check the apple shots and a few videos that had the white balance set properly.
 
Does anyone know of a list of iOS4 features that are blocked in the iPhone 3G? They seem to be the most trivial of things like battery percentage and orientation lock, if it weren't free there'd be no reason to upgrade as all it seems to offer the iPhone 3G is some minor interface enhancements. Looks like I'm going to have to jailbreak my iPhone (which I didn't especially want to do because of the contract) but the stuff they exclude is just ridiculous, no home-screen wallpaper? Really?
 
I think the amount of people with old phones actually getting upset at not being able to decorate the little cracks between icons with a 10% visible image is more silly than Apple not letting you do it.

i think that people who think it's silly that people are upset that Apple arbitrarily blocks features from previous phones are silly.
