^ lol, what the hell?

Meh roster. 3 HHH's LMFAO. If anybody needs to have 3 versions of themselves its Taker

These guys should be in

Sid
Test
Val Venis (Vince owns the rights)
Goldust
Brian Pillman
Marc Mero
Kurgan
Golga
The Dudleys (Vince owns the rights)
D LO Brown
Ahmed Johnson
Chainsaw Charlie

I can understand why these guys aren't in because they are in TNA

Kurt Angle
The Hardyz
Al Snow

Will wait for WWE '14 The Monday Night Wars for the roster that we deserve

D'lo is still in TNA iirc as a road agent or something like that.

I swear the Jericho model looks like the community CAW from WWE '12.

NO effort is placed on these character models.

Man, they got Dolph's entrance all wrong. He doesn't do his "butt shake" or even turn around for that manner to have his back against the crowd.

And there is a glitch when he goes to the ring and gets on the turnbuckle. His abs switch from being six pack to flat constantly. Ugh!!!

Although I am hooked on the theme song. It's "Here To Show The World" by Downstait. Love this band. They also did The Miz's entrance theme song too!

But he's the show off, and he's here to show the world his abs. :(

But yeah, a lot of entrances/models are absolutely horrible.

Austin was a good technician who wrestled a brawler style with a ton of charisma.

Punk is an amazing storyteller, but a horrible technician and a mediocre wrestler, with meh charisma. But his ability to storytell in the ring and psychology saves him.

I don't know what people consider "technical" but I think you guys are using the jargon wrong...

The character models look hilariously shit.

Out of all the Smackdown games, 2007 easily had the best models.

because Yukes is a piece of shit, and I can't wait till THQ folds and loses the license and the WWE license will be given to a developer who gives a shit

I think people use "technical" to describe any wrestler who likes submission moves.

I want this game so bad but the character models suck ass and it's not up to date either but that Attitude Mode has me sold. Damn. But where do I preorder the game at to get the Mike Tyson character? I'm going to preorder the Stone Cold Edition from THQ site but does it consist of the Mike Tyson character too?

I'd throw my money at the screen for a Monday night wars based roster with about half being WCW superstars. A new game with Sting, DDP, and all my old favorites would be too good.

I believe you get Mike Tyson from everyone that takes pre-orders. So Best Buy, GameStop, Amazon, etc. The Austin 3:16 edition preorder off of THQ comes with Mike Tyson as well.

A technical wrestler is someone who has a technical background... ie someone who can assess a situation and take advantage of it, someone who can find a way out of any situation, reverse a reversed reversal. Someone who can pick apart a person's body with grace. Malenko, Bryan, Angle.. these are technical wrestlers. Even Austin was somewhat technical and good at chain wrestling. Punk is the furthest thing from it. He sets up some cool reversals and spots but none of them are technical or believable.

THQ doesn't own Yukes and no other publisher would want to put up with WWE's bullshit, so you might as well erase your hope now.

I will be surprised if WWE 14 is NOT a Monday Night Wars game, though I feel they should just make a separate game that's just WWE The Monday Night Wars and not have anything to do with the current product.

I imagine the game to have 100 wrestlers 50 from WCW and 50 from WWE than for the sequel add in ECW.

I would (and likely will) buy this game for this and this alone. Has there been any word or hint that the Wii U might be getting a version considering this comes out at the end of October and there is already a Wii version listed? Wonder if anything will be said in September, then I can decide which version to get.

A Monday night wars game would be amazing to have as well.

They didn't follow up Legends of Wrestlemania or WWE All Stars. I imagine those kind of games just don't make the money that the modern stuff does.

Yeah, but they're missing that cloak or whatever he wore during that period. It was in 2011, stupid how they didn't at least re-use that one.

Isn't Stone Cold irrelevant? Unless he's back?

Really hope this game is good, because now I'm buying it regardless, this version to be exact because I'm a Stone Cold mark at heart. How's it looking so far? I haven't been following it that much, but I know WWE 12' was disappointing, at least that's what I hear.

EDIT: Also, does this mean that the Stone Cold/Punk feud is almost certain to happen now?

Is there an explanation why the models look worse than PS2 era models? Like, some new graphics or physics or wrestling system that forces this? Or... do they just look like shit for no reason?

They stopped doing full body scans. The models are done from the ground up... With hilarious results.

They didn't follow up Legends of Wrestlemania or WWE All Stars. I imagine those kind of games just don't make the money that the modern stuff does.

To be fair All Stars was more marketed as an over the top fighting game that ended light on features. I don't think All Stars was a game that garnered much interest anyways, despite being a good game. LOW was just Smackdown light and many complained that they would have just been happy with a Smackdown reskin with Legends.

A Monday Night Wars game would generate a lot of buzz by name alone. If they give people a roster a ridiculous roster from 95-01 and load it with features I am sure it will sell.

I remember the SD games on the PS2 looked incredible at the time, SYM & HCTP both, and I love how the characters had more unique animations like Kane's no selling punches and Undertakers sit up. These new WWE games have such terrible animations that are on WCW Mayhem PS1 level.

They do realize that in zbrush they could have just taken their base model, turned on projection master to create a semitransparent facial layer and then tugged the model into shape right? It would have solved the problems with facial topology and it takes about 4 minutes to get the basic layout ready to fine tune (which still isn't a big deal.). Plus, after that they could just export the model as a .obj, import it into photoshop's 3d texturer and used photographs of the characters to literally overlay onto the models with minimal cleanup required. Seriously not even a full shift of work to do this for a character to get a nigh photorealistic character. You don't even need photo opts with the wrestlers most times as you can take stock photos for their bodies and tweak the levels on the skin tones to match that up. All you need are front and side shots of their face and most can be obtained from high resolution shots available free online of these wrestlers already.

Seriously lazy work here since it appears they went and sculpted next to the photos without overlaying them in projection master and then simply used blinn shaders with little depth/texture maps added to simulate skin. Its not even a lot of work to do what I'm saying here folks. It really isn't. Its literally just a few overlays and cleanup work to do this. Its barely any faster to just shoot from the hip and model close to source images. Heck most times its more work to try and model from sight rather than use projection master.

Look this is LITERALLY all it takes.

pt1
pt2
pt 3

That whole series of vids doesn't even take 30 minutes and that is one of the artists that works on freakin' Uncharted describing how easy this is to do so its got some clout. They could even start with a freakin' basic stock model in zbrush before projection master is used to make it go even faster if they don't want to be bothered with making a basic block model to shape of their own. Just use the stock one and sculpt it to match!

Seriously, irritated by all this. I hope someone else gets the WWE license soon. Game series doesn't even understand basic fighting game frame data dictates that if strikes have less frames than grapples that people wanting to wrestle in a wrestling game will be punished for trying to do so! Never fails...someone picks up the game, tries to grapple three or four times and gets interrupted by strikes then you see them unleash the fury of strike button mashing until they can get ONE move off. The whole match devolves into running and striking and waiting till they are completely a wreck before you can start grappling. The whole system needs thrown out and rethought.

And folks wonder why I've got a 30+ page design bible for making a wrestling game sitting around. First chance I get I'm pitching something that WORKS in this damned industry so we can finally enjoy wrestling again.

Lets be real honest here. "Stunning" Steve Austin was a pretty good technical wrestler. "Stone Cold" Steve Austin was little more than a brawler that by the end of his career could punch, kick stomp, LTP and stunner, and thats it. He actually had a smaller repetoire than Kevin Nash, and that really shouldn't be possible. Not Austins fault, his knees were completely shot but there it is. I think from about 96 to most of 97 (where he still did the stunner from a collar & elbow tie up) he was still a pretty good wrestler. From 99 on, he was an awful wrestler. Great ring performer, awful wrestler. Its true.

Supposedly now we can edit the arenas and stadiums and make them outdoor events. But no matter how custom it is still the same engine.

Well in 99/00 was when WWF started to water down the product a bit with predictable spots, banning of moves (piledrivers, tombstones and DDT's that look like face plants) which results in what the product has become today. Watered down matches, predictable spots, no risky moves, generic characters and boring storylines. 97 was the best year in WWF/WCW history. It was a time before the internet gossip and before the business became extremely exposed.

In 97 the feuds felt dark and dare I say "real"

Austin vs Pillman
Austin vs Hart Foundation
HBK vs Bret Hart
Undertaker vs Paul Bearer/Mankind
Ken Shamrock vs Vader
Nation vs Ahmed Johnson
Goldust vs Pillman

There are loads more but there was something about that era where the feuds felt more organic than over the top bullshit its become even a few years after.

I know THQ doesn't own Yukes, but THQ choses Yukes to shit out WWE games. No way EA would turn down a chance to make a WWE game

The WWE is in such a popularity low at the moment I couldn't see there licence going anywhere like EA.

I could see if THQ closed in the next few months that the WWE licence would end up at Atari or 505 or majesco or something.

Maybe someone decent but small could pick it up for some small scale XBLA/PSN and iOS games.

But anyway THQ can go die in a fire for all I care for refusing to make a All Stars 2 and then closing the studio.

FUCK'EM

Some of the character models are downright hilarious. WCW Mayhem had better models than some of these that are in WWE 13.

THQ, like WWE/WCW was at their best in the attitude/Monday Night War era.

Its a shame because with modern technology, you would think wrestling games would be amazing. I still want my mode where I can create matches. Not just match types, but full matches where I create the spots, I create the finishes.

Eh, some of the models are definitely poor, but to be honest, that's the way in a lot of these games with a ton of different characters. It seems that there are some picked every year to have a lot of attention lavished on them whereas the others end up being tossed out quickly.

It's fine putting up shots of the better looking models in older titles but there were always plenty of poor models in them. I mean, going back to the PS2 games and you could usually rely on people like Triple H and Hulk Hogan looking good, but there were always some who appeared like barely upgraded PS1 carryovers, and the bizarre thing has always been that you could have someone look great one year, and be a big bag of wrong the next. Booker T in WWE12 was really, REALLY horrible though. Egregiously so.

I'm quite looking forward to the game though...I felt that WWE 12 made in-ring progress and it's not a huge detail, but I'm really pleased that in-air finishers are in the game. It's always been so rigid that you HAVE to transition into the finisher in a selective way. I'm also pretty excited about the fact that there's going to be much greater emphasis on the effectiveness of finishers, less chance of me pinning someone who's worn out after a punch or body slam but more chance of a comparatively early tombstone finishing the match.
