WWE 2k14 Gameplay Improvements

http://wwe.2k.com/news/us-gameplay-improvements.php

At a recent event in New York City, select members of the press got to interview WWE 2K14 pre-order bonus Legend, The Ultimate Warrior, and yes, spend some time with a build of WWE 2K14.

While we didn't give away everything, there were some notable improvements discussed at the event. And since we don't want to leave you in the dark, check out below for a list of all the tweaks, changes and updates discussed at the event, and make sure to stay tuned for more great updates to your new favorite game, WWE 2K14.

NEW NAVIGATION SYSTEM
The entire navigation system has been overhauled and reanimated including all walking, running, and dragging motions to give the game a more fluid and life-like feel and look.
Overall Superstar movement has been accelerated, meaning the action is faster-paced and more like what you see on WWE television.
There is now a "starting up" animation for when Superstars begin running. This leads to a more natural-looking match, where it is more difficult to "spam" running attacks.
Animation gestures have been added such as adjusting wrist bands, motioning for your opponent to get up, and many more to give a human-like appearance to the navigation system.

STRIKING CHANGES
Strikes and strike combos are now quicker and snappier, making them faster and harder to reverse.
Successfully landing a strike combo now puts your opponent in a groggy state, making groggy grapples appear earlier and more frequently.

REVERSAL SYSTEM IMPROVEMENTS
Reversing a grapple move now causes the reverser to do a move of his/her own automatically.
This cuts down on the endless back-and-forth "reversal fest" some users complained of in WWE '13 while also making the match move faster.

CATAPULT FINISHERS
Catching Finishers can now be executed offensively, by Irish Whipping your opponent to the ropes with a finisher stored or catapulting your opponent up when they run towards you.
Select finisher moves give you the ability to launch an opponent into the air and then hit them with a Catch Finisher on the way back down.

NEW OMG MOMENTS
New multi-man OMG Moments added to help you gain the upper-hand in multi-man matches. One OMG move can take out two opponents in one shot making it easier to get the win against multiple opponents.
Double Attitude Adjustment
Double Shellshock
Double Chokeslam
New OMG Moments added to allow you to dole out even more damage using the ring environment.
Boot-to-head on outside ringpost
DDT on the apron

TWO-COUNTS
One of the most reviled bugs in WWE '13 was the dearth of two-counts. This issue has been addressed, bringing back the dramatic near falls you know and love.

As you can see: Pretty exciting stuff. And the best news? We're only getting started with all the updates and revamps that come with WWE 2K14. As always, for the latest info on WWE 2K14, make sure to follow @WWEGames on Twitter and like us on Facebook. And don't forget to pre-order WWE 2K14, available in October 29 in North America, November 1 internationally.

Interesting that they would refer to something from the previous game as a "reviled bug". I think 2k knows how the fans feel. I doubt we will see what we want in this game but I have a feeling they are actually interested in making sure the problems are fixed. Might be a start.

"Yuke's is shit!"

"Where's that Booker T comparison picture?"

There, no need for this topic to exist.

Honestly I was expecting OP's post to be completely blank.

These "improvements" will probably just break the game some more.

Until we get a new engine it's not so much gameplay improvements as it is gameplay tinkering and extra gimmicks.

I'll at least nod in approval for finally figuring out that the reversals might go down a bit better if they're not an eternal battle of intense arm wrenching shared across every wrestler.

How about some visual improvements instead.

gimmicks gimmicks gimmicks every year

I don't even care THAT much about the graphics. Just make it more fun to play.

The director did cite King of Colosseum 2 during an interview with Giant Bomb though. Maybe if they can just find the right developer for the next release.

I get the impression this release is going to be a lot of patching things up with duct tape to have a game out in the fall.

2k really needs to make their acquisition worth a damn for 2k15.

These improvements.. sound more like bug fixes.

That's pretty much what we're getting.

They had already started working on 2k14 before the buyout, so I imagine it wouldn't be worth scrapping and starting over. I'm HOPEFUL that, once this is out, 2k gets their sports guys on it and they just slowly take it over.

Like everyone's like 'oh get the No Mercy or King of Colosseum people.' But yo, I think the sports guys could probably make a good game too. Just, for the love of god, not Yukes anymore.

Is Sin Sophia even comprised of the same people anymore? Saying "get the aki guys" is one thing but who actually works for the company at this point. The engine would need an incredible overhaul as well.

Literally two people who worked on the AKI wrestling games are still with the company.

Will this game also features the AI being able to go up immediately after getting hit by a finisher ?

Cause that's the reason why I didn't buy any of WWE games this gen.

It's so random. At times guys will stay down as long as they should. Other times guys bounce back after multiple chair shots to the head. Guess that is kind of like the bullshit you will see in the real WWE but I prefer consistency.

KoC 2 is more fun than No Mercy.

KoC 2 is one of the very, very few games where I can be ok losing a match because it was so much fun to play. WWE been trying to make a 'wrestling simulator' for years and spike already beat them one generation ago.

Except now, it sounds like grapples are going to be way too risky.

They really need to playtest these games for balance. Having two dudes who know what they're doing slamming on the game for a month or two discovering cheese would work wonders for this series. Nobody cares, though, because DERP NEW WWE GAME GONNA BUY IT, so of course they will never bother.

Day of Reckoning 2 is great. I can lose matches in that and still feel like I've had a lot of fun. Also, they score you high and reward you, even if you lose, for putting on a great match.

That absolutely needs to return. I want to be rewarded for putting on great matches, not necessarily winning.

I honestly can't fathom how the graphics have regressed so badly. On PS2, the graphics were half decent from what I remember on the most part.

It is almost like they really don't give a shit about the product they are putting out

Yukes... Japanese developers are still having a hard time advancing their graphics engine.

I think it's more like they don't have the time / money to revamp, they're shipping that game EVERY YEAR and I don't think it's selling that well

Game sells very well. That's why it's shit out every year.

Development cycle in the previous gen was better since each console had its own individual WWE game. Now Yukes is responsible for making one game for all the systems. I think they can't produce a quality product in that time frame.

Day of Reckoning/2 were both superb games. Lacking in features, but really enjoyable gameplay. They also had the most realistic animations in regards to attention to detail.

It has that special John Cena AI, no-selling everything.

I'm actually okay if the AI does a John Cena after a finisher, but being able to stand up 1-2 seconds later after being hit is bullshit..

I can still remember hitting a guy with a finisher, then puts him into a table and splash him, he goes up before I can even pin him.

I think that's what the current games are lacking -- a real attention to detail. When watching Shawn Michaels' entrance in particular, I can spot numerous inconsistencies and stuff like this really bothers me. Even stuff like pyrotechnic SFX sound wrong and a lot of it comes across as blatant oversight.

instea of limiting the reversal game they should just make them progressively more difficult to do,either by making the time window progressively smaller or by bringing back the strike counter vs grab counter mechanic...

instead every year they make the game more easy and dumbed down...

Yeah, this new reversal system might turn out terrible. Reversalfests happened because of how easy it was to reverse a move, that means there will now be a distinct advantage to the one that's put in the grapple.

I about flipped a table when I did his finisher in wwe13, the opponent flair flops after the kick!
