WWE Smackdown! VS RAW 2007 - PS3 Version Canceled

I can't understand this at all. Why? All they'd have to do is port the 360 version.
According to some developers, porting from 360 or pc to ps3 is really difficult and expensive.

Apart from better graphics and achievement points what does the xbox360 version have over the ps2 version??

holy shit, lol. yet if the PS3 version hadn't been canceled that question never would have arisen. :lol

no matter which way you cut it, the PS3 and 360 versions of ANY games (especially ones as seasoned as this franchise) are next gen games and worthy of buying if you want an all round richer experience.

Dave Meltzer reports that the PS3 version was cocky backstage and didn't get along with the other talent, causing a rift. Upper management was not with pleased with the attitude shown by the PS3 version and subsequently depushed him. The PS3 version immediately asked for their contract release and was given one.

heh... heh heh... hehehehehe. :lol

I'm sorry, just find it rather amusing. I imagine Yukes will put out a PS3 WWE game down the line; they'd be crazy not to.

So will the PS3 version become Wrestlemania 23?

I'm surprised that they announced this game as a multiplatform title. Has THQ ever done that with a wrestling game? Do we have any comparison pics?

Better control pad to use with the game. :D

It was more of a general statment though to get a 360, and not just for smackdown vs raw.

I'm worried about Raw vs Smackdown 2007 360. Hopefully development hasn't fallen far behind that it becomes a Madden 06 360 situation. Don't dump half assed goods on 360 owners THQ.

Only the 360 version has been shown in a playable form, before that they had a target render.

I heard the PS3 version took a crap in the Wii's bag.

the game wouldnt be finished until next year
why though? it's not like they have been developing the 360 version for quite some time and decided to release a ps3 version at the last second..or did they?

"My kind of system!"

Until they do an overhaul of the engine (which still has strong roots in the freaking PSX days), I'm not sure if SvR is worth anyone's time, regardless of platform. I'm hoping SvR 2007 will be the "Just Bring It" of next gen--a game with predominately last-gen technology.

Now, if they fix the ridiculous load times of the PSP version, maybe I'll get interested.

This hurts everyone. It makes the 360 version look like an up-ported PS2 game, so fewer people will want the next generation version.
Um, going by the franchise track record, as well as previous THQ trends, it probably is an up-ported PS2 game.

Post of the Year! :lol Oh, we'll never let Randy off the hook for this. .

This is a pretty huge blow to a potential "launch window" line-up for the PS3. If the PS3 does come out this November, it would be around the same time that SmackDown was coming out, right? If work had been progressing on both consoles, they could have had a great wrestling title, even if it were available on other systems.

It'll more than likely be back for the 2008 series, but it still sucks.

The last time I saw it (E3), while not utterly mind-blowing, it most definitely could not have been achieved on the PS2. Just about everything is significantly enhanced. It's pretty much the jump from say, Fight Night current-gen to Fight Night 360. It doesn't look as dramatic, but the details are definitely there.

Oh I'm not saying the games never improve, just that much like Madden a whole lot of assets are "recycled" from year to year, regardless of system. Not anything bad really, just the cost effective way to make annual installments in a franchise.

Well, if it counts for anything, SmackDown for both PS2 and 360 have the same set of features, so at least you're not going to be missing anything like the EA Sports ports :X

This year is also the biggest change to the series, probably ever. They did away with all the button-based grappling and in it's place is an easier to use analog-stick system. That and all the new hot spots around the place make the environment actually interesting for once.

But I do agree. . Yearly sequels are really not that cool.

No not at all. On the day of launch for that game i would have walked into the store, looked at the more expensive next gen version and asked myself, is it worth paying an extra ÂŁ10 quid for the same gameplay but with better graphics.

Better control pad?? I use the d pad to play smackdown games and i sure as hell dont want to use the 360's broken d pad with the game.

THQ hands you a lemon and you make lemonade. I like your attitude.

Seriously, though. I had NO PROBLEM whupping the competition on the PS2, and I've played the GC's last 3 wrestling games. The only thing I wish THQ fixed was having a "Special" zone where once you activate I'm you can throw a finisher on everyone (a la GC version) as opposed to 1 meter, 1 finisher (Smackdown!). My friend once OWNED the rest of us by pulling off 5 Angle Slams in a Fatal Four way match on ONE Special Meter.

I'm gonna go out on a limb here and say I fully expect a port of the 360 version to be available at some time on PS3 ;)

Wait for TGS. Massive Attack told me Kutaragi will be lowered from the ceiling by a harness, I think that means something. :)

I lol'd.

Anyway, yeah, this is interesting news. If it's only going to be a PS3 game in the sense that it's backward-compatible with the PS2, there goes the PS3's graphical advantage until 2008.
...Not that it mattered anyway, really, though, since THQ's Smackdown series continually puts out awesome character models which are unfortunately and inevitably betrayed by the shoddy PS1-level animation.

Damn, that sucks. Hopefully developers could learn about the cell more quickly so things like this don't happen again.

I'm really only interested in this for the "create-a-wrestler" feature, if has good customization options. I remember playing RAW for PS1 almost every day at lunch with my co-workers. So much fun pulling people out of the ring and piledriving them ringside after you were already counted out of a 4-way match. At one point, I got really pissed that I was losing all the time, so I created a wrestler called "****ing Loser" - who was pretty much just me in a t-shirt and jeans. I ended up going undefeated for about a month with that character. I also made Lex Luthor in his green and purple 1980s costume (well, as close as I could get, anyway). And The Hulk. We made stupid bets on matches all the time, like the loser of a match having to remove all his character's hair for a month, or his male wrestler would have to wear a bra and panties for his next five matches. Fun times. If this game has a good "create-a-wrestler," I can see it lasting quite a while in my game collection.

I don't really see a big deal here. They couldn't get the PS3 version done on time so it was dropped, but PS fans stil get to play it on PS2. He actually says that the future Smackdown games will naturally be done on PS3. It's not as if the franchise has gone X360 exclusive.

I was serious...the screens @ 40% completed, looks better than SD vs. Raw 06
