What you wrote right there doesn't make sense. Magneto looked stupid at the end of First Class. Now he looks swank as shit and you're complaining.

I mean...

lol

He looked stupid because the clothes don't match the helmet. I'm still waiting for them to go full Mags.

it will look gloriously stupid

70's worst decade with the worst fashion.

God forbid I want Magneto to look something like his comic book self.

Oh right, you don't read comics, you wouldn't know what I'm talking about.

I appreciated them giving him a suit more close to his comic counter part. I'm not saying I want him or others to be suited at all times, but it's cool to see the movies try and do justice to the comic book suits. X1, x2 and x3 didn't really do justice to suits, whereas first class did a better job.

Fassbender does look good in his casual wear though.

What the hell are you guys talking about?

Singer did Magneto's helmet and cloak in both X1 and X2.

The difference is that it looked like something practical for him to use, as opposed to this shiny plastic piece of shit:

Yes it has the horns from the comic design. They also look completely ridiculous in live action. But I guess that isn't what comic fanboys care about. Apparently something is only as good as it is true to the source material.

Exactly.

I can't imagine how Magneto, as a character, could (or would) come up with that design.

That Old magneto helmet looks like shit but whatevs.

True you can say well the comic outfit is ridiculous blah blah blah, but remember the x-men uniforms look stupid as hell too. Very uncreative and very fucking lame.

At least the first class costumes are the right colors.

LOOK AT HALLE BERRY'S FUCKING COSTUME FFS.

yeah god forbid films follow comics.

because then we get shit like amazing spiderman and that magneto costume in first class

artistic liberty ftw

put batista from wwe in that cloth batsuit and we have a true comic book batman look that we've all been waiting for.

and have kevin conroy dub his voice

I dunno. I don't think X2 was really as great as people make it out to be. I mean, I know it's like pissing in the wind trying to convince people it's not the best Xmen movie, but yeah. I think First Class is the best.

I actually think Singer stunned the world so much when he made X-Men, and people were so stunned that it wasn't terrible, that he got TONS of love. That whole "Pretty okay quality" superhero movie, at the time, was a huge win for Hollywood. This was before Raimi came and blew the doors off with Spidey, and long before Nolan turned the whole thing on it's head with Batman Begins. Singer got so much love, and then he did another "pretty okay" job with X2, that it is still carrying him today. If I told you the guy who made Superman Returns and James the Giant Whatever was making Days of Future Past, there would not be this long of a thread about it.

Plus I'm convinced that the only people who didn't like First Class are people who have an erotic fascination with that guy from Swordfish. :)

:lol I've actually seen that piece of shit. What a dull affair. Frankly, my hype levels really aren't all that high for this movie, Singer is one of the last directors that deserves any sort of blind faith. And you're 100% about X1 being "pretty okay" back when it was released. Today "it's pretty fucking mediocre." The guy's reputation is running on fumes at this point.

Here's something we should all agree on.

McKellan, Stewart, Famke, and Jackman are the only performances worth a damn in the first movie. For the second toss in Rebecca and Cummings.

In First Class it's Fassbender, McAvoy (the most consistent throughout the movie), Rose, and Bacon.

The opening scene from X1 is literally so good they reused it in First Class.

This one has McKellan, Fassbender, Stewart, McAvoy, and Jackman. Along with Singer. Now say what you will about some of his other endeavors, but he seems to understand the character of the X-Men while simultaneously having shit taste in costume design.

Magnetos costume from X1 and X2 looked kind of stupid, same with the xmen leather suits. Also remember First class is what? Late 60s? Makes sense his costume is a bit more out there compared to his more contemporary outfit. These movies are not all about being realistic but having fun with the source material too. Magnetos suit was just a nice nod to the comics.

The helmet is shiny not because its plastic, but because it has a coating over the paint....the X1 and X2 helmet looks like plastic.

Fanboy or not, sometimes its cool when a comic book movie has visual elements from the comics.

Agreed. This is not one of those times. When the rest of your film seems firmly grounded in reality, shit like that popping up out of nowhere comes across as kind of ridiculous.

I hate that helmet. Even if it looks out of place, Magneto's helmet design is iconic. Why change it for some generic shit.

So it looks practical instead of flamboyant?

'Here's the helmet you asked for, Mags.'

'Huh? Where are my highlighter pink rims? What the fuck? No horns either? HOW AM I SUPPOSED TO WEAR THIS?'

Magneto is using the helmet to protect himself from Charles. He's not using it to avoid a cover charge at Studio 54. The helmet in First Class looks like something you would buy your four year old from K-Mart.

Screw Singers hideous outfits. I'll take comic book costumes any day over those ugly leather outfits.

Also First class helmet is better looking than X1's/X-2's.

James Bond's suit isn't practical at all, better switch it out for a Adidas track suit and stuff.

#Scullibundoisbad

WHAT haha Bond is always going to high class shindigs and poker matches drinking martinis shaken not stirred... hes supposed to do that in a track suit??

Let us be honest. In the comics the X-Men change costumes every couple of months, going through random styles, falling back on remixes of old styles, and sometimes bizarre shit. And half of them look ugly as sin anyway.

Costume continuity never bothered me much in the films, but I have to admit the First Class uniforms look as if they make sense - rugged, more like flight suits, able to stand up to some real wear, tear, and combat. They're not as sleek as they could be as rugged clothing isn't that pretty by nature.

In real life you can't fight in tailored suits, tons of restricted movement.

I'm mocking Sculli's wacky idea of practicallity.

The Singer X-men outfits are so god awful.

I mean, I have no idea how people can NOT trash them. They're right up there with that god awful DareDevil costume from the Affleck movie.

Can you guys explain to me if they are ignoring the ending to first class, or are picking up where they left off?

I don't know. Have we seen Xavier in a wheelchair? There's a picture of him walking with Magneto but they might not be shooting at the time it was taken.
