Singer also tweeted "Have some very good news... :)" followed by just "Memorial Day. :) #Xmen #DaysOfFuturePast" ... not sure what it means

I think we can all agree:

X1, X2 and First Class were good to great.

X3 and Origins: Wolverine were shit.

....what are you guys seeing in x1 ? it really was bad compared to X2 its like X1 was the show pilot then X2 they got some real budget money to do a good story.

Wait, First Class is a bad movie now? Ha ha, I'm really happy I'm not a movie snob who hates everything.

Anyway, I thought it was confirmed that Days of Future Past was going to tie the Brian Singer movies and First Class together while undoing X3. That's not the case anymore?

First Class was amazing. One of my favourite superhero movies, possibly second only to Spider-Man 2. Although that sort of awkward thing with the black dude dying almost instantly was kind of awkward.

It still is. It's just not going to be connected in any way to Mangold's upcoming 'THE WOLVERINE' film.

Cool! Gotta say that I'm not really excited for The Wolverine, especially after the Wolverine: X-Men Origins.

It's good to know that my two favorite X-Men movies (X2 and FC) are getting a sequel that combines the canon of both, while also referencing X3, keeping it canon, but retconning it from the canon. It blows my mind! I'll probably enjoy watching X3 now knowing that it's a shitty, alternate reality that was set right in this sequel!

And any interest I may have had for this film has gurgled down the sink. If it has no bearing on the main story and the new 'super canon' why the fuck should anyone care?

Do you only care about stories that have definite sequels/prequels?

I'm skeptical about The Wolverine being a *completely* standalone film anyway. The whole premise is based on Logan becoming a wanderer again after X3,
Jean factors into it a bit
, and so forth.

That's not really true. Mangold said pretty directly that he worked with Singer to make sure everything fit between the two, which I assume means no contradictions in story or continuity. All he's saying is that he was too far along in the production to tie the two together in terms of plot. In other words, the ending of The Wolverine doesn't set up Days of Future Past. It's more of a side story.

I'm also pretty confident that there will still be something. He's probably just playing it close to the vest.

Read what I was replying to. It's standalone in terms of movies currently in production. It's not standalone in that it takes place after X3. He talked with Singer, but that was before Singer had any notion of DofP going forward.

There was a rumor of
Logan meeting Xavier in an airport as a post-credits stinger, which could set up Days of Future Past in some way
but I don't know if that ever ended up being corroborated or not.

I read what you were replying to, but I think the relevant article up the page is kind of weird. It spins Mangold's words to sound like the two somewhat overlapping production schedules resulted in The Wolverine ending up as a stand-alone episode in terms of continuity, as if it's going to be incompatible with DoFP (kind of like the first Wolverine movie which had a ton of inconsistencies with the first couple of X-Men movies).

All he's saying is that his film won't set up Singer's.

Sounds lifted from Ocean's 13. Fake.

I can't stand that its in the 70s. Its the worst time period for fashion/style ever. I wish it were in the late 80s early 90s.

I think it's more the memory of X1. For the time, it was pretty amazing for a superhero film. Hell it was amazing to get an X-Men film at all let alone it not being a complete embarrassment.

But yeah, it does not hold up well. Superhero movies have stepped the game up too much.

I don't see how it wasn't a embarassment.

X1 was worse than Batman and Robin

The 80s were a high point for a lot of things; Cartoons, Speilberg films, video games... But fashion is definitely not one of them.

Not at all. Because I'm not petty. Films usually mean more to me than the fashion sense of the characters in them.

That said, 70s is baller.
The iconic styling/fashion for X-Men is traditionally 80s/90s... that's why I want it. Jubilee in the arcade, dazzler an 80s pop star... not bellbottoms and floral shirts. Lame.

i cant wait to see the costumes if there is even any in this damn movie

Singers costume designs are god awful

Whhhaaaaaaaat? Totally disagree. It was a smart and cerebral take on superheroes during a time when that was synonymous with camp. There are some cringe worthy moments here and there but they were pretty minor points.

Like I said though, compared to the modern day comic book movie, it doesn't really do anything special and comes off as low budget which is why it doesn't hold up.

The general impression is that this will free them up to do some more First Class timeline films and also start actually making more sequels to X2, yes?

they should split this into two films

Now I don't like that talk, so just stop it.

I will never understand all these 'Split the movie!' cries from people lately. You're actually buying into the studios' shady practice of bleeding the story for your money.

Twilight films, HP films, all those stories which already feel ridiculously thin are spread over two films. Now we got a three part Hobbit film and you people are asking for more.

I saw people asking for TDKR to be split into two films. Like if they just got rid of the bullshit Catwoman and Blake padding and focused the 2 HOURS AND FORTY MINUTES of screentime on more interesting/relevant things (of which there were many), they couldn't have had a better movie.

Splitting one obviously standalone story into many films sounds like a good idea if:

1. You're a studio/studio's bitch that wants to milk that shit for all it's worth.

2. You're a bad cinematic storyteller and are incapable of distinguishing what is/isn't important to the film, so you decide it's better that just throw everything in.

3. You're a filmmaker who is so under a studio's thumb, and have no say in the runtime you want in order to get the film you intended out.

4. You're Marc Webb, so all of the above.

I wonder if they will do a Dallas shower type moment to wash away X3, I'm glad they are undoing what was done. Singer doesn't strike me as the type to outright bash X3 directly, so its going to be interesting to see how its handled.

I've mentioned it before, but it would be amazing if they cut back to the scene where Jean is about to kill Scott, and you see Bishop materialize, grab Cyclops, then both disappear as they continue on their way back to the past - which is why you never see Cyclops' corpse.

Shit would make me lol so hard. Somebody needs to give the finger to X3.

Haha maybe thats been the plan all along, it does seem something like that would give them an easy out from X3. I can see some sort of cute reference to X3 being bull being made, but who wants cute i just don't think Singer will go for the throat.

I think they wanted each movie to take place in its own decade. So if it doesn't bomb you may get your wish, however horrible it may be.
