Damn dont remember seeing any Wolverines this morning off the top of my head

So no Gambit or Jubilee or Cable and definite No Cyclops or Jean Grey since FOX killed em off. Just Great.

Well Scott was in first class, so I imagine that Jean is also still alive in the 70s. Might have Logan looking her up giving her some advice maybe?

Yeah but young Scott and Jean weren't in the panel at all at Comicon. Also still no Nightcrawler? Come on, he was the best part of X-men 2 and hasn't made an appearance since.

So wait, are First Class and the original trilogy in the same continuity? I thought First Class was a reboot.

X-Men movie continuity seems to be: if a movie was good, it's in continuity, if it sucked, it's non-canon.

Or at least, they seem to be trying their best to pretend X-Men 3 and X-Men Origins: Wolverine never happened. Which is fine by me.

Scott was in Wolverine not First Class.

He was, you can see him when Xavier uses cerebro. More of a cameo but my guess is they'll expand on it. Things went to shit in the future and they are going back in time to fix it. So my guess is McAvoy Xavier will go all out on the school during the film and we'll see Scott, Jean, Ororo being recruited at a young age, might even be trained by Logan, since with the info that now got out he'll be the constant connecting the future with the past.

Nah.

Jean Grey is dead.
Cyclops is dead.
There will be an explanation to how Xavier is alive after his apparent death in X3 according to Patrick Stewart.
Ellen Page returns as Kitty from X3.

It doesn't seem they ignore X3. The only potential plot point of X3 that might not be addressed is that Magneto was "cured" (edit: Rogue too), but then again in the end of X3 they showed us the "cure" stopped working, so they don't really have to explain it in the new movie anyway..

But Logan training Scott, Jean and Ororo will completely fuck up the continuity of the first X-Men film. They had no idea who Logan was or what he could do, but if they were trained by him then surely they would know? Unless some form of paradox occurs in Future Past ala Doctor Who that wipes their mind. Hm.

That was also explained at the end credits of X3.
He transfers his consciousness to his brain dead twin brothers body.

Well going off of the footage discription Stewart Xavier is sending Logan back in time to guide his younger self (McAvoy). Things have gone really wrong in the X1-3 universe and they are going to stop it from ever happening. That means that they will influence the past, and in turn the future so basically Days of future past will be the reboot of the X-men universe. Or at least that's what I think it will be.

Patrick Stewart has suggested the explanation will be based on time travel instead:

"It’s been six, seven years since ‘X-Men 3′ when you will recall — I hope you will recall, I certainly do — that Charles Xavier was vaporized by what’s-her-name, Jean Grey. And you were asking yourselves, “Well, if you were vaporized, how could you be in the next ‘X-Men’ movie?” Anybody got any ideas? [After someone in the crowd shouts, "time travel," he says] Yeah, right. That’s exactly…I guess something like that. There *will* be an explanation, however. But it was a little puzzling to me in a way because I thought my ‘X-Men’ days were over, but not so."

The brain dead twin brother thingy is based on the DVD commentary and is not supported by the film itself since Xavier never says anything about having a brother and we aren't shown the patient's face either, so Singer can ignore it without stepping out of canon.

If the new movie ignores it, then we can interpret the post credit scenes of X3 as a brain dead patient that Xavier temporarily transferred his consciousness to, to relay instructions on how to bring him back or whatever.

Hmm good points. I think it would be a shame if they didn't use it fully, it would help tie the films together even more.

I am hyped for this film, is going to be very very interesting.

So they're going to JJ Abrams the X-movie universe....

Good.
No. Singer is a much better filmmaker than J.J. And this comment makes me salty, because singer was designing a new star trek series and than J.J who doesn't even like star trek goes and makes his star wars inspired shit.
They're doing what the comics did when they killed a bunch of characters. And singer is really making the most of X3. If it all the movies by singer make it one of the best movie series.

no to mention that they redid the opening scene from x1 almost 1:1. it was pretty clear that its a prequel, despite a lot of continuity errors.

Yes, believe it or not, I'm pretty sure I read an interview where Singer said he thought he did a good job respecting the canon of the originals when writing the script for the most part!

I can't find that interview for the moment buy I just found this which confirms at least at that time he considered First Class a prequel, continuity errors and all:

Q: Does this movie fall in the category of prequel, reboot or bit of both? Nevertheless, I'm very open-minded for this movie! =)

A: Prequel

edit could it be I have confused this with this interview with producer Simon Kinberg: http://www.comingsoon.net/news/movienews.php?id=92542

"It's an interesting thing and I wouldn't know how to define it because we tried to be as respectful as possible in 'First Class' to the 'Singer-verse,' to 'X1-3' really, and there are places where we diverged from that and broke that, but there were other places where we were really respectful to, like even little silly things like the Rebecca Romijn cameo, so we are constructing it with 'X1-3' in mind. There may be some places where we don't line up perfectly but it is something we are very aware of and want to be respectful of and the people who are responsible for those movies--Lauren Schuler-Donner, Bryan Singer and Fox--are all involved."

Whatever the case he doesn't consider it a reboot either.

No matter which way I look at it, this film is going to be a damn mess unless its 4 hours or something.

All the continuity stuff alone is going to be a nightmare.

It's either going to be the greatest comic movie ever made, or an absolute clusterfuck of epic proportions. Either way, it'll be a really entertaining few hours.

Time travel is a pretty easy way to fix the Jean/Cyclops permadeath thing. Since they are going back in time to fix a few things, this would be one of the easier things to mend by the end of the movie, no?

You know they play it so cool and all, but even for them inside they must be like "Holy shit... this is unreal, I'm in (hopefully) one of the most bad-ass comic book movies ever made, acting alongside some of the most incredibly talented actors/actresses working today."

I really hope this film delivers so hard. Also, that's a sexy cast if I ever seen one.
