X: Rebirth (space sim, not the Wii U game) release date announced 15.11.13 + Trailer

I just want to get in a spaceship and shoot things with my space weapons. Do they even make games like that anymore?

Game looks rad but I don't think I have the time to deal with a space capitalism simulator nowadays.

You can completely ignore all of that. If it's anything like previous entries you can make millions of credits from bounty hunting, patrols and station defense.

As with all the X games it looks and sounds amazing. I just hope they've managed to streamline the experience so actually playing the game and getting to the gameplay aspects often pitched by fans isn't as tedious or complicated as previous titles.

Um, there are numerous games like that these days (Galaxy on Fire, Strike Suit Zero to name a couple) if that's your thing.

X and Evochron are the only modern singleplayer games with this level of complexity and that cater to this niche.

This looks really cool. I just watched the controls video with the gamepad. Are there any games currently available that play similarly with a 360 controller? Looks like it would be fun, I've never played those kinds of games though.

If you want some mixture of trading and shooting, Feelancer still holds up great - at least gameplay-wise. The graphics might be rather iffy by now. There was some shitty F2P Freespace clone recently on Steam too. At least it had an interesting ship divergence tree and lots of unlockable stuff.

Whatever happened to Black Prophecy?

Edit: never mind, they canceled it.

I was wondering what was going on with this. I never really got into X3TC since I kinda burnt out on the series as it was with X2/X3, but this looks pretty damn awesome. Time to trade my way up to a big ass Mammoth again :P

With this, Star Citizen and Limit Theory all coming out over the next year, the genre seems to be making a resurgence, Which i have to say i am really happy about.

My most wanted game currently. I love X. Can I do the official thread?

I really hope they have incorporated the most common user created scripts. Good god trying to manage a trillion dollar space empire with just the official toolset was impossible in X3:TC.

I think this time I might step out of my comfort zone and try a pirate and drug dealer path. Space weed for everyone.

Wait, this is completely new to me, you can walk around in stations now? Awesome! Hopefully this can be my gateway into the X series, I have been struggling so much with X3, trying to learn and play that one but just never got that far.

Don't forget Elite.

Didn't they practically hire on some of the major scripters for Albion Prelude? I know they have released script packs that have included popular user scripts.

Not sure, I didn't really enjoy the premise of Albion Prelude (also starting from scratch), so I just ended up playing more TC and making my empire even larger.

Edit. Though I may have to give it a shot in preparation for November.

Well that to, for some reason i'm a bit more worried about that game, i still put money towards it on ks though, hoping for the best.

But with x-rebirth other then not being able to change ships its pretty much the space sim i've been waiting for.

Jesus fuck, between this and Rome II my end-of-year social life is dead.

So, if I understand this right, you wont be able to change ships? Just upgrade the one you have? That's a little sad, understandable, but sad. Still gonna buy and play it no doubt.

Will there be mod support for the game?

I'm pretty sure You can change ships, there wont be as many of them as in X3, because of cockpit.

I'm usually against "casualizing" but for this game it might make me play the game .
I tried X3 and damn this game take a lot of dedication and learning to enjoy .

They said you can command other ships by hiring NPC's to crew them, and they have stated before the main ship is the Pride of Albion, and that is the only ship you can pilot. There are AR controls for drones but that is about it.

That sux ;\ There will be mods though and hope that customization will be quite advanced.

I'm pretty sure you can see various iterations of the Pride of Albion in the videos released and it seems be highly customizable. One is rather round and bland looking, but another shot of it shows a much more square and sharp looking version.

holy shit, you can walk around and shit. probably just for show, but thats just cool.

hope there are multiple cockpits though. the one they shown seems like its a dual seater? Wonder if you can have a co-pilot...

What! No way. That would be a completely changed game. I refuse to believe this.

Though it would explain why that entire trailer was from the same cockpit.

How am I supposed to feel like a Grand Admiral if I am not sitting in my slow ass M1 ship with fighters and M2s surrounding me as I attack a rival corp!

Edit. Google is confirming but I still refuse to believe this.

You do, shes the red haired chick you see in the co-pilot's seat, pretty integral to the main plot I believe.

The one other problem is apparently this is going to be a DX9 game, its amazing that there are still DX9 games in 2013, They started developed it in 2011, i guess they might be using a modified version of the X:TC/AP Engine.

Exactly the X I was looking for, though the people who think the other somehow magically got Rebirth added to the title are hilarious. Looks amazing.

The command frigate+ordering other ships around approach was always a better way of doing things in X3, IMO. Actually piloting M2s and the like sucks, and this isn't a game of piloting fighter class M3s-M5s.

M6/M7/M7M or bust. Be a commander.

Yeah, a frigate (or was m6 corvette?) with a turret tower and some heavy forward guns has been the most fun for me in X games. I wish they'd make a good interface to better command really big warships. Turning joystick around just isn't the right way to pilot those things.

Well I actually did most of my battles from a corvette, but still I liked switching ships. I would keep a superfast jump capable fighter near me at all times for example. And other times I would get in a max speed fighter (think it was a a split fighter) for certain missions etc. Or when placing a station I would get in that class of ship to do it.

Well the pride of Albion seems to be a M6 class, and you can still dock on larger vessel and command them, just not directly.

wow. just watched the scale and detail video.

I'm blown away. I've never played an X game before. I think I might have to jump on this.

Seems like a good warm up before Star Citizen.

Anyway, I've been interested in the series for a long time but never jumped into it because I don't know a clue about the gameplay. What is it about actually? A bigger, complex version of Space Rangers maybe?

That's actually unfortunate. Part of the appeal of this series to me is the idea that I can obtain and pilot nearly any ship I see. I hope the AI is better this time around. :(

I don't get it. This game looks insanely ambitious, is visually stunning, and is in a genre that has had little attention given to it in the past 15 years. Why is this "X", a game from a series that has been around since the late 90's, being referred to so poorly to the point where its an assumed troll? Hell, given the Wii U's horrible sales, I'd be surprised if Monolith Soft's game even sells as well...

Are you guys living in a console bubble or something?
I'm not a Nintendo fan (look at my post history if you don't believe me) and I don't have a Wii U. I just came in here expecting JRPG news and left without it. I feel as though I was trolled by the title. This X may be a great game, I've got nothing against it.

yes!
X3:TC is my game of the gen.

I only stopped playing since my PC can't handle the large fights anymore, around 100+ hours. =)

Lets be honest. You didn't have a social life to begin with.

You are a NeoGAF mod.

Nothing? This game looks amazing!

Don't get me wrong. It does look great, but it's like getting a great bacon-cheddar burger when you were really craving a Honey mustard chipotle chicken sandwich.

I apologize for the post though, I'll stop going off topic now.

So, you can design and build your own stations and ships? I wonder how indepth it is... (I've never played this series.) How hardware intensive would it be to run a KSP-like experience with those graphics and that many objects being tracked simultaneously? I mean, factoring the gravitional effects, rotations on all three axes, varying speeds, and structural torsion and flexion on so many objects at once would be astounding....

Looks amazing. Don't like the interiors though, feel like an afterthought.

Never played an X game because they seem so intimidated, but I think I might jump in on this one
