XB1 Elite Controller ($150)

Was so excited when this got announced, then I found out it was 150$ and told myself I'd never spend that on a controller.

Then I prordered on Microsofts store. Wish it was coming out sooner.

For what it is the price makes sense. Niche product with a lot of customisation. Not like controllers are cheap in general.

This kind of falls in line price wise with other controllers like this on the market though

I paid 100 for my custom 360 controller and that was just for a single (but important) modification

Yeah its on the high side but its not as ridiculous when compared to other controllers of this level on teh market

Really wish there were some impressions of the faceted d-pad

that verge video for example -- they show him holding it with the faceted d-pad but he never touches it or mentions it wtf

Gonna have to wait to see if the thumbsticks and triggers are properly accurate.

Standard controllers triggers are really really bad for deadzones.
Make a White version, and I may consider it.

For the love of everything, please yes.

My white controllers charge port is virtually broken along with a bumper and right thumbstick click being very bad. Can't even get a standard replacement :'(

Looks like something I'll be interested in after upgrading to Windows 10. I expect multiple third parties to put out competitive alternatives by then.

Good call. I'll wait to see how it works with Windows 10 and if users/games benefit from it vs the 360 wired.

The main thing is, unless I've been misinformed, is that it will have native support over bluetooth in Win 10. So one won't need one of those proprietary transceivers to make it work in Win 8.1. I also just purchased a new Xbox One controller for my PC. At least I got a good deal on it, I guess.

So I'll have to buy a Bluetooth receiver for my PC but geez those things have terrible reviews. Yea unless the Elite is that much better to justify the purchase, hard to get a 2nd controller. Unless of course you have an XB1.

Edit: sounds like it'll use WiFi Direct so we'll need an adapter for PC

definitely shocked at the price at first, but i had also never heard of Scuf controllers. after reading into it a bit, totally ready to buy this thing.

love the sound of the premium build as i just noticed a creak in my regular xbox one controller. can't wait to feel out the paddles and use the hair trigger function

this combined with using headphones for sound will hopefully improve my FPS multi game a little bit.

a bit down the road, but if this thing gets super popular with our crowd, hopefully they will have one ready at launch for the next xbox. would hate to have to go back to using a regular controller after getting to play with something like this. Wonder if PS4 will follow suit eventually? Can't be a bad idea, as it's only optional.

Any rumors of Sony creating something similar? I doubt it but figured I'd ask. The controller looks lovely, this is the 1st time I've somewhat regretted my PS4 purchase.

Well I caved in and ordered one. Damn hard to find here in Sweden, only webhallen seemed to have preorders up for it.

The elite controller will be known as the "father controller" to my kids, no touching, only look kids. Only look.

Eurogamer impressions: http://www.eurogamer.net/articles/2...softs-ridiculous-usd149-elite-xbox-controller

Harsh criticism on the AA batteries. I love having that flexibility really. Fair point on the fact it should include a Play & Charge kit as standard though.

They don't really give much impressions on the actual controller itself, which is dissapointing.

Overall they say: not for everyone, especially at that price.

I have two pre orders in. This is definitely for me.

Nope. But I gotta say, that sounds like a weird reason to regret getting a console.. Why not just buy a Scuf controller or similar?

what a useless article

One thing I noticed, the circumference of the holes on the controller where the thumb sticks sit are lined with metal rims. The sticks themselves are steel, too. Should make regular wear and tear on the thumb stick holes a non issue. No more white thumb stick dust!

I talked to my wife about this last night and I'll be picking one up! Huzzah!

Can't wait to play Halo with jump mapped to a paddle.
I just ordered this as well, along with A LOT of games from E3 (including the RB4 bundle).

My wife will find out when we start getting weekly packages this fall. :-)

General consensus:

Superb build quality.

Excellent weight feels like a premium product, which it definitely is.

Comes with plenty of custom options in the box.

Potentially additional custom add ons sold separately (e.g A Gears of War d-pad).

Great mapping features. So much functionality included.

With different modes available, means you can switch mid game or between games/playing styles.

Price may seem steep initially. But is great value.

Not for casuals. Definitely for people who play a lot and/or play more competitively.

It's a bit too much for me, these things should come with an extended warranty though. I've gone through 3 Xbox One controllers already. Will wait for someone to miss price them and buy it for $60 or less.

Yeah it's a bit much but one of the new edition controllers (the ones with the better bumpers and headphone jacks) with the new d-pad would be ace for me.

Here is a video for a Scuf One Elite (1 year old)

https://youtu.be/slN4chs-B2g

This is the third party rebuild of a stock Xbox One controller.

https://scufgaming.com/shop/scufone/scuf-one-elite/

This is listed at $140 on the Scuf website. While similar, the main differences are:

- only two paddles, not 4
- customisable at time it is built. No after purchase customisation (unless you buy new add ons)
- no button remapping either (at time of purchase)
- paddles are set at time of purchase. No changing or remapping
- no switch to change triggers. You are stuck with what your bought.
- it does include a purple Xbox light though. And er... They got his order wrong.

People can call this expensive and I get it. It is not for everyone.

It is, relatively speaking, superb value though.

If you watch the last video quoted above they talk about how it's been tested with up to a million cycles on the analog sticks and there was no wear due to new / premium parts. As someone who's went through three controllers already you sound exactly like someone who needs this. In the long run it will probably save you money.

So all the talk about an updated controller, so like the original controller doesn't get the bumper update?

Also kinda off topic but did MS give a date for the wireless dongle for PC?
