The best and only choice, by far the smartest investment I've made so far.
The lack of colored buttons makes it far more appealing to me. Why would anyone need colors on those anyway?
How long do eneloops last per charge? Similar to Duracell? I've been thinking about getting them, but can't decide between the regular eneloops of the eneloop pro.

And next to the price of decent fighting sticks and steering wheels, $150 is probably nothing.
Most of us don't even need the letters there at all.. when was the last time you looked at the buttons or even the controller? So why do you feel the colors are necessary?

Pre-ordered from Amazon UK. Hope it does release on the 23rd so I can tinker with it before Halo 5 launches. Can't wait to marry it up with a chatpad too!

There's no need for colors for inexperienced gamers either. There's letters. Even if you don't speak english, those letters become symbols that are easily recognizable.

Honestly mate I change my xb1 batteries every 3 weeks or so with fairly regular playing. They're amazing compared to the ps4 one I have to charge every 2 days.

It's a stupid things microsoft also did with the first new dpad controllers for 360 back in the day, also forza motorsport's games lately seem to all use white button prompts instead of colour so it can be confusing at first glance.
It's a dumb microsoft thing they seem to think is more hardcore, and it is the wrong reason.

Given equal skill amongst all players and familiarity with their preferred controllers i'd say the elite would win just because of the ability to fully customize settings for a particular game which would allow you to never take thumbs off sticks, switch weapon/reload faster, etc. This goes for all custom controllers as well. They're just more advantageous.
Why would the demand sway you in either direction? Either you want the features or you don't (and just to answer your question according to microsoft the demand has been big) For FPS i feel like it will really set the bar higher in PUB play like never before. There's a reason why all competitive circuit players use custom controllers with buttons on the back... it does help, a lot. It wont turn a bad player into a good player but it will turn a good player into a much better player.
Just an example of my own evolution: I went from default controls (jump on A) to Bumper Jumper and saw a huge increase in my play, to then eventually getting a custom controller (jump on the back button) which saw another increase in my play. It wasn't as big as from default to bumper jumper, but it was an increase just by moving the jump to the back. I'd say now being able to fully customize each button, and having a stick sensitivity curve, with trigger stops, etc i'll see another increase.
That's a perfectly valid opinion of course. I wtongly assumed it was because the colors represented function.

I doubt it's about being "more hardcore". It's about aesthetics. Multi-colored buttons look incredibly stupid against the backdrop of most every single LE controller MS has created. It even looks out of place on the standard one. And what's more is the colors are unnecessary. If someone can't handle memorizing 4 letters, they have more important things to be doing than gaming.

so you want it to bomb hard so you can get it slightly cheaper and ruin the possibility of console manufacturers offering more unique peripherals? or maybe even realizing that they shouldn't listen to their more hardcore fanbase?
hmmm... i wonder if pc gamers always wanted everything to bomb so they'd never get better cpus/gpus/monitors/and all the other insane amount of peripherals aimed at hardcore gamers.

Not sure why you feel that way, but it won't. Keyboards and mice that cost that much or more sell hot because they work better and see thousands of hours of use and are worth it. Controllers are no different for hardcore (in terms of time invested) console gamers. Controllers wear out. Instead of Microsoft asking these gamers to buy 3 controllers over the lifetime of their console, they're offering a better, optional product as an answer. If anything, I hope Sony does the same.

I've waited so long to have a high quality built controller with tons of customizable features, and the fact that it came from Microsoft itself was amazing to me. After all i spent on third party custom controllers that never satisfied i was dancing for joy at this announcement but now i read people hoping it fails...... boggles my fucking mind.
Why can't we have nice things for consoles? PC peripherals range from dirt cheap to ludicrously expensive. It's ok if consoles get that to. It's about choices and i'd like to spend money on a product that will last and give me the performance and features i want and have wanted for a long time.

Price doesn't bother me. If the controller is high quality ( sounds like it is ) then it is worth the price. If you want something cheaper pick up the regular controller or be patient for a sale. Everything goes on sale eventually.

I don't get the mentality of hoping it bombs. It's so childish. When it was announced I thought it was ridiculous but that was about it, if people wanted it then I'm happy it's there for them. As time's gone on and I've heard reports of the build quality and feel of it I've turned around and now have one preordered to be a new PC controller.
Then hope for a sale on Black Friday. Don't hope for the thing to bomb. That's stupid. But then again gamers are almost always the biggest enemy of gaming.

I don't think that'll happen. I remember then saying that they don't expect it to sell like crazy and it seems to be doing well. It's still 50 on the best sellers list on amazon, which is ahead of all other xbox one controllers (master chief @51 though)
It never ceases to me amaze me how true it is. I used to think it was because the demographic as a whole was a young base, but given repots that todays average gamer is in their early 30s that doesn't hold true. So, what is it really?
Money is always an issue. But given how much more expensive other hobbies and passions can be gaming is relatively cheap when most of the other (boating,art, music, traveling,) things can range in the thousands.
Spending $150 on a high quality remote that can give you endless joy for a year or more is not so expensive of an investment for your hobby.
Maybe, but didn't seem like it.

Yeah that's what they keep telling me as well, I was just hoping they were wrong. Although I'm getting the Elite bundle so I'd imagine there's no chance of that releasing earlier anyway.
I personally wish all of the controllers had colors. At least with the limited ones, they print the little colored arrows on the body of the controller itself. I guess for myself, I don't need the colors but I think they look better and for people who come over and aren't hardcore gamers, the colors help.

In retrospect, I see that. It's easy to lose sight of that stuff when you visit one too many communities of people posting that shit unironically.
I like the controller without the colors, though. I think colors would feel really weird next to the stainless steel. If the Elite Controller ends up being a hit, I wouldn't be surprised if they make a white one and a 'classic' one with colored buttons. I pre-ordered the Elite Console, but I'd be pretty annoyed if I had a white Xbox One because I like my controllers and consoles to be all the same color.
Just think of it this way, it's like one of those white BMW M3s with black wheels

Why the hell would you need colored buttons/letters? This controller is for people that know wtf they're doing, if they didn't have letters at all on the buttons I'd be even happier. The colors have been exactly the same for about 15 or so years now, I think I've got this shit down to a science at this point lol.
Lots of people will be remapping, making the colors even more pointless.
