Xbone takes 1:08 minutes to cold boot

That's a pretty long time... I guess, they were connecting to XBL with that cold boot?

With the current Xbbox 360 Dashboard, it takes already quite some time to boot, but only, if you want to connect instantly to XBL. If you want to play offline, it's a lot faster. Wonder, if that's the case on the Xbox One, too.
Probably, all thumbnails on the GUI are downloaded from the Internet.
Edit: at least this is the case for the 360

If you leave your xbox in standby mode for the most part, this isn't really an issue......My PC boots in less than 20 seconds, but I still leave it powered on or "Sleep" 99% of the time...I think this is a minor gripe to be honest

Seems realistic from a cold-boot standpoint, these modern consoles are basically PCs, though at least you can shove an SSD in a PC or the PS4

Even my TiVo unit takes longer than this to boot, since Virgin Media in their infinite wisdom decided to patch the standby behaviour, and I don't use it enough to justify leaving it on.

I mean a sizable chunk of that was signing into Live with a slowed down connection at 64kbps.. but still.

Seems a bit excessive for a next gen console.

i have never timed my 360 but it feels just about a minute and i am on 10mbits. still, maybe they cut corners bc they figure people will boot from standby all the time.

even the 108 boot time is mocking at the XB1's lack of native 108(0)p eh

lol. would be funny if it took 180secs...
Xbox 180 indeed

It's certainly a long boot up, especially now after their marketing spokespersons have been tooting the "fast bootup" horn for so long. The Xbone takes more than double the time the PS4 takes to start up cold.

If you're powering off every time you finish it you're missing on the silent updating and voice activation which is like half the appeal of these consoles to begin with.

If you're not willing to make a small concession and leave it in low power mode while you don't use it you should probably rethink your purchase.

That is a fairly long boot time for a game console, and I'm not one to generally use suspend/standby features either. >.<;

I'm pretty sure that at twice the length of the PS4... you could theoretically boot the PS3, PS4, and Xbox 360 all sequentially before the Xbox One starts.

I saw 19 minutes for COD:Ghosts

This is a post-review number? I know someone was claiming a long install time before for Ghosts, but it was a while back.

Or or or or or I'd rather not leave my console at the mercy of any potential thunderstorms and short circuits that could damage it while in standby.

I don't consider a constant 19 Wh power draw to be "low power". And with voice activation being so unreliable and dependant on set device status (i.e. accidentally turning a TV that is on off by starting up the Xbox), "Xbox on" doesn't seem like a worthwhile feature worth the power expense.

That's long - good thing the game resuming works then.
Also can we at least in thread titles keep it classy? ;)

Booting back into the system takes just 18 seconds and you do have the ability - in theory at least - to resume into gameplay. This process takes just 2.5 seconds but in the here and now it is rather unreliable - we've had game crashes and numerous restarts. It's a bit of a shame because the ability to pause gameplay, turn the console off and get back into the action exactly where you left it with just a 20-second wait sounds like a rather good feature. In fairness, though, the feature is labeled as a "beta", so we would hope that it will improve over time.

Hmm?

.

I dont see the appeal of this at all, voice commands are stupid and looks flawed on the Xbone.

Keep that stuff unpowered at all times when not playing and save energy.

True but for fast booting you have standby, I don't really see the issue here. There are many things to complain about the XBone but this isn't one of them, except by proxy the fact you can't improve this by changing the HDD (ugh). SSD + RAID 0 bootup times on the PC have spoilt me.

Ps4 1 OS = 20-30 seconds.

XB1 3 OSs = 1 minute

am I doing it right gaf?

so you physically disconnect every piece of equipment from the wall outlet after use??

PS4 resumes from standby in ~32 seconds. I just timed it.

Pretty sure it's the same time as regular boot.

Maybe the xbox one will benefit more from SSDs than the PS4. Either way, boot times are sure to be slashed dramatically in future updates.

The whole points of both the PS4 and the Xbox one being in standby is that it will download updates itself, or that you order a digital game on the web stores and it will download itself. If your worried about the energy don't iron your clothes that should save enough
