The S. The E removes component and VGA output.
Honestly, if you're on a budget it might be best to pick up one of the newer elite models used rather than a slim or E model. Maybe check your local area for a used games shop with a decent returns policy?
Keep watching Amazon Warehouse Deals. You can find a Like New 250GB one for less than $200. I wouldn't recommend a 4GB one to anyone. Way too many awesome downloadable games and a few disc games require an install.

That is like the worst advise I've read here on GAF. Seriously? The thing sounds like a jet engine.
The one thing you have to ask yourself.
Do you need optical audio out? If so you take the old slim 360.
If you have a HDMI receiver take the 360 E.
The 360 E doesn't have optical out.
I don't use optical out or VGA, but I'm starting to lean towards the Xbox 360 S.
Does it run cooler than the E? How is the failure rate?
I'm not concerned about noise by the way.
The S is for slim.. the E???
Do you plan to get an Xbox One down the road? The E is similar in design to that so I think it looks nicer having them both together.
The S is for slim.. the E???
It also gets rid of optical audio doesn't it? It seems like a step backward just so MS could save a couple bucks on the build.

The other thing worth noting (for me, at least), is that the 4gb model S has a matte finish instead of that shitty gloss that Microsoft uses for everything now. That + a bigger hard drive = the best solution.
Yeah I noticed that in a video I just watched. I like the matte finish much more than the fingerprint and dust magnet.
I'll be upgrading it to this later on.
How is that brand compared to the overpriced HDDs that MS sells?
I can just upgrade the HDD later on, and I have a 160GB external that I can use temporarily.
I honestly have no idea, but as a general rule, I'm not willing to give no-name brands a chance with something as finicky as a hard drive.
You'll only be able to use ~16Gb of that external, official HDD upgrade costs an absolute bomb and I'm willing to bet good money that third party hard drives won't work. In the long run, the 250Gb model is vastly superior value, there is literally no point in buying a 4Gb console unless you like not being able to play downloadable games/any game with a mandatory install.

Just for clarification, the 250 gig S models now also have a matte finish. There are no more glossy S models.
Just FYI, aftermarket HDDs work just fine. I've been using them for years.
This is true as long as you don't intend to play backwards compatible games from the original Xbox. Those don't work unless you have the MS HD. Not sure of the reasoning behind that.

Or if you're lucky, you'd find gems like this as they're getting phased out:Get the S. If you have walmarts nearby you might be able to still find the White Skylanders 4GB bundle that was being sold for like $180 or less.

S, has Component out, has optical out, can do VGA, has more USB ports.
If it's just casual, catch up on stuff you missed, a used Wii should be cheap, and some might even have GC support. Not sure if I can recommend getting a 360 used though, but there's a sufficient library to look at, and a cheap 4GB 360S should be sub $150 now.Hope its not a problem, but since I cant create a topic yet (and I think it wont even be really necessary), ill ask here.
I already played everything I wanted with my PS3, now I have a PS4 and am enjoying it and Vita. However, I want to play some games of MS / Nintendo and am thinking. Would be worth to sell my PS3 and get a X360? Or should I wait to get a Xbone or WiiU in the future? (Like in a 1 year and half)
The reasons have all been sufficiently covered in this thread, but get an S if you can find one. I wish the E didn't exist.
