88% here. Japanese demo. I'll let you guys know the region locking nitty gritty in a few.

Yes, please do. I just started the download and don't feel like wasting an hour for something that won't even work.

Edit: Nice to hear! 12% here...

Confirming ddk's claim. Obviously DLed with a Japanese account, logged into my US/real account, it starts, it plays. Seems totally english, as said.

Awesome, getting the Chromehounds demo here in Holland - too bad I'm flying out in a matter of hours... :(

I just KNEW something would show up on the Marketplace when I would be leaving - Thursdays are a prime day for Live downloads...

REGION
LOCK!?!?!?!?!?!

81% done!

No region lock... although by now u will be the judge of that.

Only two game modes. The mechs handle not bad although I don't really understand the aim on the soldier scenario... just to destroy everything but I ran out of petrol... looked at the time its 2:41 am ... bed time for me i think. More impressions tomoz. But by then everyone will have an opinion or two!

Impressions!

It's the very definition of mediocre. Not absolutely terrible, but certainly not at all good. And it has almost out browned GL Quake, WTF....

The game went from one of the most promising to one of the most forgettable in 10 months. I'm not sure if that's a bigger comment on how the X360 library has improved or how big a dissapointment this title is turning out to be.

Damn, that really worries me. I couldn't care any less about the demo and really just want to see if From Software still has it. Hopefully it was because they weren't used to the hardware and not a reflection of their capabilities. I'd love to see a new Otogi, but I don't want it to be garbage.

someone confirm this quick!

just to confirm so no one gets confused

THE FINAL GAME IS REGION CODED.

I just tried it in my US X360.
Will try it in the Japanese one to see if it flips with language settings (not that you guys will care about that really :) )

I think the US version of Chromehounds will be region free. As I've read that Sega's US releases are region free, but their JP releases are not.

Well it's very average from what i played. Your mech is completly overpowered, the ennemies mechs are no match at all.

The game feels like an upgraded xbox game. The buildings blows up EXACTLY like the buildings in earth defense force 2 for gods sake. At least the buildings in EDF2 left ruins behind.

Mechs dies by a massive explosion that leaves no marks at all. The 'impacts' effects on the ground when bullets/whatever hits them is mega cheapo; it's a bunch of big polygons being distorted around. Very psx :(

The pre built mechs in the demo are very very very very slow, the weapons are prety damn well, what the **** is that dumb 'two shots' gun? How useless?

A big 6/10 :(

Wow, Chromehounds was depressingly bad. I don't even want to think about how clunky and stupid a full multiplayer game would be.

Too true. And it already got out meched badly by a 3 month of demo (Lost Planet).

Mech action in Lost Planet >>>>>>>>>>>>>> Mech "action" in Chrome Hounds (from now on to be refered as Browner-than-Quake Hounds).

Goddammit FromSoftware >_< I guess this is next-gen's Murakumo :(

I quite liked the demo. What trailers have you guys seen, anyway? I don't ever remember some sort of fast, arcade-like gameplay from videos. I do agree, however, that the game needs more color. :)

I don't get the brown comments... the first level is predominately green and the second level is all snowy and white.

Alright, maybe it's "olive" not brown. Picky bastard.....

Hmm, I was initially impressed (somewhat)...but it doesn't hold it.

First impressions are weak terrain combined with detailed mechs, AA, AF, and 60 fps (awesome). Then, you get into combat.

The explosions kinda suck, the framerate starts to dip and the tearing kicks in. Yeah, not so nice anymore.

Why can't I have 60 fps?!? The 360's framerate situation is the same as that of the PSP!!!!1111 You have Ridge Racer on both machines pumping out a flawless 60 and then a few other 60 fps titles along with that...and then everything else struggles to even hold a constant 30.

Here's hoping that was an older demo build and the released version will be polished.

Eh, I don't really care at this point.

The actual gameplay did nothing for me. Not interesting in the least. Blah.

So, they're both pretty much like your average console?

It's because unlike PS2, the devs have the ability to heap on the FXs. GS in PS2 was all about simple but plentiful ROPs, so most devs opted for framerate over FXs. With modern GPUs like Xenos and RSX where the pixel shading muscle outpaces the amount of ROPs, it's rather foolish not to push the FXs.

Downloading now. The last Mech game I enjoyed was Mech Warrior 2, so I am not expecting much. The whole idea isn't very compelling to begin with.

I kinda agree. A part of me wants to like it, because I love mech games, and I'd love to see a mech-online game. I've been interested in the game since it was announced. In fact, looking at recent videos, I was interested again, even after playing it at E3.

final games (onlyplayed a couple of hours) - hmmm....

started off with a lot of promise, but by the second soldier mission i was already feeling bored. Not much sense of danger, other than stuff like "oh, the mouse is getting away!"

Some anal "destroy this facility... yes, every single last wall of it..." bits too.

Hmmm...
not seen any frame dips, but i see sceen syncing issues every now and then when you turn quickly.

One pro point - i do feel like i am in a bad ass mech - that's probably because nothing seems to hurt you, but at least for once i'm not like "I'm in a mech... but i better be careful because there is a tank over there"

I dunno, perhaps it gets a lot better as time goes on... perhaps it doesn't? ah well.
Im surpised nobody picked this up from the trailers

mr_b_clone_high.jpg

"YEAH..... yeaaaaaaah"

Ehh, it's ok. Not a purchase, but I'm not taking it off my GameFly Q.

I noticed quite a few synching issues as well, framerate was solid, graphics are good, but it's just not all that fun to play.

well, that's pretty much how i feel about it - with the slight change that at first it seemed like it could be fairly fun.

It might be it gets better later on - i'd imagine live play could be interesting (...?)

When PS2 was still new hardware the types of FX being used was as of yet seen in a videogame. We were seeing lots of crazy particle effects, more impressive lighting effects, frame buffer effects up the wazoo (Depth of field, for instance, was extremely impressive at the time), and more. While it's true that a lot of games used field rendering to achieve 60 fps...there was plenty of others that did not (MGS2, for instance).

What the PS2 was doing back then was really pretty impressive for its time. I feel that the PS2 was more impressive in its day than the upcoming PS3 and 360 titles are today. When I first played The Bouncer (not so good), ZOE, MGS2, GT3, ICO, Silent Hill 2, and the rest of the bunch...I felt as if I was seeing things FAR beyond anything I had seen before (and I was). The PS2 pushed impressive visuals at 60 fps...which made so many of those titles so impressive.

I know what you are saying, though, and it's kind of a shame. There are so many things I'd be willing to sacrifice in order to see more 60 fps.

1. Stop bumping the Prey is out now kidz thread.
2. Tobal No.1 says you be tellin' truth.

Horrible.

Chromehounds is a poor man's Mechassault and when you consider that Mechassault is a poor man's Mechwarrior you're left with something rather bad indeed.
