Xbox 360 Live demo availability thread

You can win the fight just by holding down RT+RT and doing uppercuts back and forth. Before I realized this, I was actually knocked out by the guy punching the air next to my shoulder.

Weren't they saying it'd be PC only ?

Well, gotta download that.

I didn't think the Dark Sector demo was all that bad. It just felt... a little uninspired I guess, and unclear about certain things. Like I must've wandered around for five minutes before I figured out I had to do a timed glaive throw to break the lock on the gate. Things like that.

And on the boss fight that ends the demo, it was so damn hard to tell when I was actually damaging the creature. There's no indication that anything you are doing to him is actually harming him. Once you exhaust the little bit of strategy it requires, the boss just charges around and you set him on fire for ten minutes. I was close to just quitting the demo out of boredom when I finally put him down.

But besides that, it was just like somebody went "Man, Resident Evil 4 is awesome. So is Gears of War! But we need something to make our game stand out more... hey, what about Krull?"

This was a big detractor for me. I literally spent minutes walking around in that church, not having a clue how to bring that fucker down. I play a lot of action games and consequently I face a lot of bosses, but I was clueless during that fight. I quit the demo before I beat him.

I also felt that killing enemies with the glaive wasn't as fun as I'd hoped. Actually after a while I just started shooting them instead of using that weapon. Meh. Eiter they picked the wrong part to demo, or DS really isn't that impressive.

That's pretty much how I felt about the game as a whole. It seemed very safe yet dull. Nothing was particularly wrong with the game, but it did nothing interesting. I couldn't bring myself to finish it as a result. Probably the worst game I've picked up this year.

Killing them with the glaive was a lot harder than I wanted it to be. Too often I would throw it and they'd duck in to cover before it hit them. Unless you were facing off against monsters who never bothered to take cover, the glaive seemed pretty much worthless in combat.

Ahh, finally get to see if it's that bad of a game.

I just used my last One-Month trial Xbox Live GOLD card, the one that came with GTA IV and it doesn't let me download the Force Unleashed demo. Fuck you Microsoft and Fuck You Lucasart for letting them charge for a demo that might make people care about your game.

*rollseyes*

Everyone ('cept for you apparently) knows trial cards don't give you access to demos when they launch. It's been like that for a long time now. Just wait a week and you'll have access to it without being "charged".

I downloaded SW:Force Unleashed and SC4 demos just fine with my 1month trial.

Despite that, the policy doesn't make sense.

Developers/Publishers would like to get the demo out to as many people as they can as soon as possible, to sell as much of the game as they can early on (I'm no sales-age expert, but my guess is that if initial retail orders are sold out, they make large orders for the next batch).

To restrict the public from trying these demos, you could miss out on early sales. Sure, people could download them later, but no one's going to count down the seven days...I think it could be likely that people will just forget, and then perhaps not actively seek demos period.

For MS, it's in their best interests that 360 games get as much hype and attention they can get. Demos are a part of this. To remove that for the majority of 360 gamers (I'm guessing most have Silver)...hurts MS as well as gamers.

I can understand that there are costs associated with this...so why not do something like "This demo download sponsored by [enter sponsor here]" and have an ad playing prior to the download? Make it so they have to watch the whole ad, and then select where they are going to save the demo to (that way people are forced to watch the ad, otherwise there will be no sponsors). I'm sure that would be far more convenient to Silver members, would recoup some costs for MS, and make sponsors happy (video ads could be more effective than banner ads).

yeah i have no idea why publishers would agree to this, especially with single player games. it makes no sense!

I don't see what the big deal is. If someone really wants to try the demo, then a week isn't gonna kill them, and shouldn't diminish their interest.

It also stands to reason that publishers assume people with GOLD accounts are more likely to be buying their games and spending more green, anyway. Which makes sense.

Silver = welfare gamer?

Now that deserves a *rolleyes*. I don't care about online multiplayer, and don't want to pay for something I wont use so I can get something supposedly free on time. To assume that any and every Silver member just can't afford Gold is idiotic.

I'm relying on a shitload of 48 hour Gold trials right now, as well as a one month subscription card I got from buying GTA IV. Both allow me to play online without spending any money. So, not really. You could also just be really cheap.

edit: Also, I'm curious to know if there has been any speculation or announcements regarding upcoming 360 demos. I fully expect a Lego Batman: The Video Game demo, and I'd really like to get demos for some of the games I'm slightly uncertain about, like Mirror's Edge, Sonic Unleashed, Prince of Persia, etc. I've actually said that the latter two of those games look shitty, but maybe I could be convinced otherwise by good demos.

You know this thread is for demo AVAILABILITY, it's right there in the fucking thread title.

If you're too fucking destitute to afford a gold subscription then go making a fucking thread lamenting your shitty life and stop bumping this shit when a demo hasn't been released.

The thread was bumped because of the Soul Calibur IV demo.

AND FOR THE MILLIONTH TIME, JUST BECAUSE SOMEONE DOESN'T WANT TO PAY FOR GOLD, DOESN"T MEAN THEY CAN'T AFFORD IT!

FFS.

Point is, everybody already knows you have to wait an extra week if you're a silver member. Why keep bringing the subject up again and again and again. It's old, it's tired. Get over it already. If getting demos a week earlier is that important to people, they'll pay for Gold. If they're too busy having issues with their principles etc, well that's their own problem. And if someone doesn't pay for gold, it's obvious that getting demos a week early just isn't all that important to them, so what's the issue?

As for the SCIV demo, it's such a fucking tease at the end!

Any info on the NHL09 demo? Its bad enough that I'm freaking out at the prospect of this only being a week away, but the fact that there are people out there already playing (PS3 owners) makes it even worse.

Any info at all would be appreciated.

Thanks.

I can't create one either! I lost my thread posting priveleges after a drunken thread I created about how great games are. It's not fair, I want them back now! Why should I have a life sentence!?
