Xbox 360 Live demo availability thread

Everytime I try to download a demo the progress bar jumps straight to either 5% or 50% and then seems to just stall. I don't know if it's actually downloading or not :( It seems to only do this with demos. Everything else seems to download fine.

Yeah, once I notice the download come to a complete stop, I just press B to cancel then resume it to notice an instant 25% + added to the download.

More like where's the Full Auto demo, I'm too cheap to buy OXM.
That too... Speaking of which, did anyone actually check out the OXM or 360 Mag UK Full Auto demos? What's the word? Is the demo worth picking up either mag?

The Condemned demo is nice. A somewhat modified version of the first chapter with more enemies, environments and toys.

Aweosme! I was debating on purchasing Condemned today, but took an unexpected 180 and bought Most Wanted instead. Glad to hear a demo is out, I'm dying to try it(just not at $60).

Yep, I have the same issue and over at the official XBL forums, many many people have reported it aswell. No word from Microsoft yet on this issue.

Happy to see that Microsoft is adding demos at a regular pace. Now all they need to do is get Garage Games to release Marble Blast Ultra and I'll be a very satisfied customer.

Yes. Been wanting to try this.

There needs to be a Live announcement or news page when you sign on to XBL.

Well all it takes is as few button presses to get to the new downloads page on the live marketplace

Yeah, but it would be nicer to have one page that lists everything new on the marketplace instead of a bunch of different "new downloads" pages. I can goto "Games with New Downloads", but its hard to tell what is actually new because nothing is dated and its sorted alphabetically and not by date.

Even just adding dates to everything would be nice.

Anyone else get problems where the download just stops for no reason? I often have to resume a download a few times just to download a demo. It's annoying

I too have seen an odd percentage indicator. The NFSMW demo started normally got to maybe 14% but aborted to do something else, then came back and it started at 50%...it all worked out in the end, but odd nonetheless.

Ahh, and I see mention that Quake IV demo is up, time to go...

Hmm, Q4 seems kind of cool -- but its the first game where I have to agree with all the framerate bitching. Its pretty bad. Don't think ill be buying this one.

Also, the percentage indicator is worthless -- just ignore it.

So far the best way to do this is via Major Nelson's page. He has been updating his "Xbox Live Marketplace" section of his blog as soon as new content is posted. He also let me know you can get info for the RSS feed for it here.

Right now that seems to be the best/most reliable way of finding about new updates.

I wouldn't mind there being a new indicator or sorting by release date on marketplace though, I'm not always going on the web or checking for rss updates before hitting live though...

Ugh. the Quake 4 demo is less than impressive. It starts with an unskippable cutscene that is at least two minutes long. Then you're running through identical corridors with AI teammates that your gun refuses to fire upon. Except if you're far enough away you can fire on them, only the bullets pass right through. Then after fighting your way from your crashed ship to inside the building, you're told to turn around and go right back to the start of the level. Horrible.

Of course, anyone expecting good singleplayer from an id game is a fool. Myself included. :(

Funny...sounds like the Condemned demo was made specifically for enticing gamers, with added baddies and "toys".

Whereas the Quake 4 demo seems to be a rushed POS.

I'll still get the Q4 demo though.

Still no RR6 demo...WTF NAMCO!? You want this game to sell, or not?

Yea, the first level is arguably the worst in the game, forgot about that dumb backtracking section.

Amazing this isn't running at nearly 60fps either, I mean the 360 has to be powerful enough to handle it, my PC had little trouble.

Online really sucks too. I mean really sucks.

I was actually surprised --Quake 4 played really solid, imo. The frame rate isn't perfect, but the controls felt spot on (Which may just be because of the X360 controller, as it works really well for FPSes. But for some reason Q4 just felt exceptionally good). The weapons are a hell of a lot better than Doom 3, too.

It's just unfortunate that the whole thing is just so stupid. The intro, dialog, enemies, setting, etc., is just beyond retarded. Yet still, it was pretty fun. Might pick it up when it hits $20.

Quake IV makes for a decent demo, will keep it on the HD to check out while also waiting for it to drop $ in the future (or if it hits an OXM disc before that). Some of the criticisms we've been hearing about are actually true in Quake IV's case, such as when the screen was packed with enemies the framerate did "chunk" up a bit.

Otherwise, it does look and play crisply, but then that is more the the nature of 360 graphics and the controller than just this game. Indeed, any game played with the 360 controller feels sharp and tight.

Now off to the Condemned demo. I got the full game for Christmas, but haven't started it yet, might as well compare what they throw into the demo that won't be there so early in the real game----as per usual demo practice.

Japan Xbox Live sucks. There are less demos (barely any new ones released since launch) and almost no movie trailers. (other than the default 4 that came on the HDD)

It's a fun game, enjoyed it quite a bit on PC.

Is this demo availability different for europeans? It seems the only demo i can find is NFS:MW (which im not interested in).
hmm, is it different if you're using a US console in another region (eg. Australia)?

I've got no EA sport demos/themes or gamerpics. No FIFA, kameo or NFS demo. I can see Condemed and Quake demos though.

I really want some NFL gamer pics but they're not listed. Should i change my time zone/locale to a US city? is that how it works?

PDZ proves you can have an FPS with shitty control on the Xbox 360 controller.

WTF! Why does the Condemned demo log you out of Live when you play it? Talk about annoying as hell.

PDZ's default controls are pretty shitty, yeah. But you can easily fix that by changing a few options.

Condemend is a demo that must be played in the dark, surround sound turned up, with no outside interruptions. Not only does the demo log you out of live, it disconnects your phone, places a lethal charge on your doorbell, and chloroforms your loved ones.

omg, online multiplayer rocks. hate how you have to wait for people to connect. good game though, very fast :)

has the condemned demo logged anyone else out of live? every time i start it, it logs me off. wierd

I've had my Live account logged off while playing PGR3 and watching DVDs on the 360. Could this be related to the Condemned issue you're having, or just a network problem?

Funny, I didn't get logged out when I played the Condemned demo. I kept getting the fucking "Stooge has logged on" messages during the thing.

Yeah, I know about MajorNelson's thing, but it isn't very precise. For example, the Outpost Kaloki fireworks scenario was released several days ago but wasn't posted on his site until someone pointed it out to him today. An official (automatically updated) site would be really nice.

To make matters worse, even knowing that an update is out isn't enough. Take today's update. I check MN.com and I see:

Ballas! Picture Pack
Fine Wood Picture Pack
Googly Eyes Picture Pack
Monkey Business Picture Pack
Here, Kitty Kitty! Picture Pack
Baseketball Court Picture Pack
Battle Ground Picture Pack
Beach Picture Pack
Skate or Die Picture Pack
Battle Ground Theme
Graffiti Theme
Monkey Business Theme
Basketball Court Theme
Fine Wood Theme
Fur Theme
Kitty Theme
Flower Theme
Skate or Die Theme

So I goto the Marketplace->Themes and Gamer Pictures but where are they?

Turns out I have to scroll through 66 (week old) NBA Live 06 gamer pictures and themes to get to the beginning of this content.

Alternatively, I can goto Game Downloads->All Games->Games with New Downloads, figure out that they are listed under "Xbox 360 Community" and then scroll through the month old content in "Xbox 360 Community" until I find the new content.

If I hadn't checked MajorNelson.com I never would've found this content -- and I only checked it because you brought it up in this thread.

I'd really just like one stop (preferably on the system) where I can go and immediately see the latest content.

Also, the preview site (http://www.xbox.com/en-US/live/marketplace/gamerpictures.htm) doesn't seem to get updated. Some of the items have previews when you select them in the marketplace, but several dont. None of the NBA Live 06 gamer pictures, for exampe, show previews.
