Xbox 360 Live demo availability thread

RR is oddly, given the lack of true lighting and detail, one of the best HD "demos" too, since everything is just so goddamned crisp.

I stuck mine in at a LAN recently and all the COD guys stopped what they were doing to go "ooooooh."

Stick GRAW in and show them a real next-gen game :)

Hehe I wasnt. It felt like a couple steps backwards after having played racegames that actually do a pretty good job of simulating...

There's your problem, it's not a racing sim. Now, I'm no RR fan by any means. I loved the first one that came out for PSX, but that's it. Even still, you can't fault people who appreciate the game's simplicity, which lends to the fun factor.

If I thought racing cars around a predetermined course several times was fun--arcade or sim--I would probably love RR6.

Guys relax please. So the statement was a bit harsh I admit. But come on, it is a very very simple game, you can feel that there's almost nothing to the physics. And youre sort of automatically guided around a corner. If thats your thing, o.k.

There's a lot more to the gameplay, but yes, in an arcade-like sense. For example, there -is- a lot of skill to drifting at higher classes and speeds, and while it seems as if you're on rails-- manuvering -through- that arc correctly and not slamming in to other cars to pass them on the drift is a huge part of the game. Put another way, while it may be simple compared to a sim, it's not easy, and there is techique. RR6's best aspect is putting the Ridge Racer game online at last, where very high levels of skill can be put up against one another for people who are in to the arcade style of racing.

Also, a good deal of the strategy isn't in the handling, but in managing the nitrous and using the track layout strategically. It's all about wagering your chances to charge nitrous at the best points on the track vs fighting for position and debating if you need to save some nitrous to pass or stay ahead in the final lap. /of course/, it's also true this doesn't come across in the demo, which doesn't have the higher classes or gameplay vs other live players.

It looks like Burnout: Revenge demo is coming up. There already is a banner on the frontpage of the Marketplace that links to it, only when clicked it says "Could not retrieve information from Live, try back later".

Awesome... hopefully they get a GRAW demo up soon, too.

Not really, I'm not buying GRAW cause I can't control it for shit. So I either practice religiously on the demo to get used to the controls or wait until they patch it to fix the controls. I'm not buying a broken game.

And I need the burnout demo :D

Huh? It has extremely basic shooter controls..

Theres no reason for a GRAW demo anymore, any true gamer has GRAW by now.

And if you don't have enough money because you spent over $300 on a DS Lite and a game (among other things)? That's what I thought.

Keep this "true gamer" bullshit to yourself next time. You must be one of those losers who puts down people that don't buy every new release on their fucking release date.

I finished the game just fine and I'm a lefty...

You are definitely witholding yourself from a great gaming experience.

The lack of southpaw config shouldn't stop lefties from playing GRAW.

lmao @ $300 for a ds

Was there any reason why this was bumped? Any new demos?

They put up a banner on Marketplace as a link to Burnout Revenge demo, but it was removed after some time. Weird.

Southpaw or nothing. I've never been able to use the standard fps controls. Nearly all fps games released give you options, from what I've read the other versions of graw have southpaw included.

Oh, btw, I aint a leftie ;)

Still, I'll probably just shut the hell up like a good bitch and get used to the controls just for graw. It'll be fine for sp but I'll get fucking mauled in mp.

Oh, and DarkAngelYuna, you'll be pleased to know as well as my retardedness with the graw controls, I too paid over $300 for a dsl. Have fun :)

Well it has nothing to do with the release date I guess. The game is just really good, you sort of owe it to yourself to play it (since it's one of those games that make you happy youre a gamer once more*).

*as opposed to the kind of games that make you wonder where the type mentioned above went.

With respect to Ridge Racer 6...

when it was originally announced I thought to myself...great...but I'll wait for the PS3 version because they will probably add stuff to the game. Now that I've played the demo I probably won't even buy the PS3 version (if it ever gets released) and this is coming from a huge Ridge Racer fanatic.

Seriously....WTF did they do to the drifting? Its so dumbed down now that its freaking ridiculous. Its feels way more simplified than even the PSP version to me. I mean you start a drift and you litterally don't have to make any adjustments whatsoever. The game lines your car up for you perfectly each time and it actually feels like you are being pulled through the corner or that your car is on auto-pilot or something.

Normally when I play Ridge Racer I like to use the d-pad because it is easier to make minor corrections/adjustments compared to the analog stick but with RR6 I didn't need to use the d-pad at all because the game practically plays itself.

Somebody please tell me that the track in the demo is the easiest track in the game with respect to cornering/drifting and that the entire game is not like this. :(

I thought RR6 was the opposite, the drifting in RR6 seems alot more strict then the PSP version to me, its still auto pilot around corners, but the punishment for needless drifting is alot higher, and you've got to actually exit drifts this time which isnt always that easy to do.

The PSP version i used nothing but DYN cars and constant drifting working perfectly, in RR6 that method led to loosing alot of speed after turns and just not being able to keep up.

I think the drifting method in both games is pretty crap and it makes the whole thing feel like you're on some sort of rollercoaster around bends then an actual racetrack. The game gets much harder much quicker then RR PSP too, which IMO was piss easy outside of the horrid max tours.

Although really the difficult RR6 levels are just more frustrating then anything, any race which is just dependant on a boring 3 lap race where only the last 30 seconds of boost matter sucks in general. I hate those races, might as well make then one lap.

Very good point. It is almost pointeless, and those later races in RR6 just get crazy difficult.

People have to stop thinking of Ridge Racer as a driving experience. To compare it to the fighting genre, you have GT4/Forza=VF, PGR=Tekken/Soul Calibur, RR=SSBM/Powerstone. RR, just like Powerstone and SSBM exist on the very fringe of the genre and cast away many of the gameplay concepts at the core of the genre, but introduce many new and unique ones. The actual handling of the car is extremely simplified (except for some dynamic cars) so that the player can focus on the other aspects such as the nitrous, planning the route, managing opponents, etc.

Although really the difficult RR6 levels are just more frustrating then anything, any race which is just dependant on a boring 3 lap race where only the last 30 seconds of boost matter sucks in general. I hate those races, might as well make then one lap.

That's only true for about 20% of the races. The beginning races are won just by staying a head. Actually, all of the races can be won by staying ahead, but for some of the expert, and special route races, saving your nitrous for the end is the most effective. The later races you can't just save your nitrous (especially final route) or you'll lose every time. And ya the races get very difficult, but so what? That's the point of the friggin game. It's really only the last 5-10% that becomes pretty crazy, and that's a part of EVERY arcade game (super monkey ball, fzero, wipeout, etc). But it's not impossible. There's many people here on GAF that have completed the entire Xplorer mode.

BTW... based on what I've seen on the development XBL network, I saw (as of last night):

Kameo co-op patch, Tiger Woods demo, GRAW multiplayer demo

I ASSUME all are coming to XBL, but it's not a guarantee since it's for testing purposes at the moment.

GRAW needs no demo. It's the freakin bomb.

you need to get back on GRAW

It's been all My Wife just destroying all Race Modes. She's pretty much single handedly gotten us to Elite ranking. But, yeah, I need to get back on GRAW. Team Elimination is kind of freaking me out, the whole getting shot out of nowhere thing. I'd like to try some other Team modes.

But anyway, YEAH, Burnout Revenge. Get it so I can share the best clip ever with all of you.

Wrong. I dont even know what "elite-speak" is.

it was a real question. never heard it before. found nothing on dictionary.com.
I guess its just a term that I heard growing up. Its just another way of saying that you can use either hand in a given situation. When I was young my father would make me practice batting both right and left handed. I golf right handed but I play most other sports mostly with my left hand in control.

yeah i keep getting messages about Burnout clips and then im like WTF i can even see the clip!!! they should let you view the clip even if you dont have the game

What are you waiting for a demo? Go buy this game NOW! It might even be a game that you and your wife can play together. :D

Where the hell is that Battlefield demo?!? I thought they said "mid march"?
