Xbox 360 Live demo availability thread

Finally got this git downloaded, the demo has "Boot Camp", "NDI Campaign", and "Xbox Live" modes. I naturally went to Xbox Live as I love Live a lot, but EA's servers seem to be non-existant at the moment, as it constantly looped to signing into EA's servers. The loading for the other modes was incredibly long. I will make further edits to this post when I experience more of the gameplay. The stick movement is very fast and fluid, and the music is suitably atmospheric and lovely in 5.1. The voiceover for the training section is very cheesy, but gives it some humour. The controls and UI are better than BFME2, as this feels more natural at the moment.

Just finished the Boot Camp tutorial, was actually pretty good, I was pleasantly surprised. Going on to do GDI Campaign now, see what happens. The first GDI Mission; Badlands, is interesting, as you only have a small force and are taken through it step by step, and you get to use the Ion Cannon for MASSIVE damage. Now time for the 2nd one.

EA is providing servers for C&C3? Sweet.

They provide servers to all of their 360 games, which was part of the whole argument Microsoft had with them when they wanted to do online games for the Xbox 1. At the time, MS wouldn't allow Live to communicate with outside networks, but now with 360, it's allowed to connect to all of EA's servers, PlayOnline for FFXI, etc.

how does the framerate feel. I was happy with BFME2 in regards to controls and UI but the inconsistent framerate really hurt the game for me. I am scared that C&C3 is yet another PC port with zero 360 optimization.

They played this on Gamespots "On the Spot" live show. It's optimized for the 360. The Interface is new, the animations are slick and quick. It had polish.

Definitely, I really love this version, it feels very fluid, easy to use, and maintains that awesome C&C feel. The level I just played, Alexandria had me being pwned by the enemy forces when I was supposed to trot into their base to destroy these two buildings, and I had hardly any money or resources, but sent a small force of tanks to go and destroy them, which actually worked! Their unit numbers dwarfed mine by like 10 to 1, but one quick, swift attack is enough to sway the battle. To the above posters asking about Live capability, it is supposedly here, but EA's servers won't let me sign onto it in the demo yet.

Still having DL issues but it sounds sweet but I'm on a EA buying ban hmmm... loopwhoel for C&C hmm? (demos fine :D)

see you on it when its downloaded & EA get there Server act togther.

Do I need a Gold account to play this? Also, what about the older demos (Dead Rising, Viva Pinata, GRAW, Quake 4 to name a few)? I'm getting an 360 tomorrow, and before I drop any money on games I'd like to play the demo first, would a free Silver one be sufficient for this?

You can't play any multiplayer games over Silver unless it's a free Gold Weekend or other such event. Currently Silver members can't download this demo (as is the case for a load of content at the moment), but it should be available to Silvers in a few days/week time. All the other demos in single player mode should keep you busy for a while though. Sorry, forgot about the free Gold you get for a month, thanks above post XD.

Edit: EA SERVER AM UP! LINE UP FOR 1337 PWNAGE!

We shall see if only I could get the whole thing to download without bombing out!!!! Trying again! grrr!

I'll give you the chance to practice

Downloaded in half an hour for me.. and damn is this game awesome. It almost feels like my first time playing C&C again.. and in fact it is, since Red Alert 2 at least. Anyway I already have my pre-order in.

Oh and why is Grace Park starring in this game? She looks pretty good though.

Wow this has to be the slowest demo I've ever downloaded, :( it's been like 3 hours and after 5 restarts I'm back to 20%....

I shudder to think how bad the servers will get raped on Halo 3 beta day.....

I don't think there's any way to invite other players or steer your game into players you want, it's like a speed through of Matchmaking. However, the Live Vision support is pretty fun, and there is no noticeable lag, thanks to EA's server, but I've only played 1 vs. 1 at the moment.

Man going from playing the PC version of C&C3 to the console version was like having all my fingers replaced with pork sausages. Probably works fine if you don't have the mouse/keyboard experience, but yeeeechhhhh.

just had my first game, got my arse kicked of some 14 year old :( was a nice long game tho, and thE camera adds the comedy element!

handles really well (once you learn the buttons) alot better than I was expecting, no mouse & keyboard but I can easily handle that.

Now do I end lift my EA ban when this comes out, hmmm!?!?

EDIT: Shame you can't play your friends but I can let it off as its a demo but you can't zoom in wit the cam ala uno??? people are gettin a great view of my couch

Why not? It helps to support EA's quest to make games that are actually good instead of year on year sports updates which do nothing to help the industry. At least this way we get more Spore's and other such original or decent stuff from them. Just don't buy the sports games X0.

Don't get me wrong, I completely agree, but I thought they streamlined the controls rather well for a console title. It can get a little complex and I couldn't adjust the analog sensitivity, but after the tutorial + demo levels I had a rather effortless time controlling my army. The bonuses of the console version are native voice and camera support along with the standard achievements. Not bad for a downgraded port I'd say.

Do you think a game like this could somehow benefit from the mini-keyboard attachment coming out soon?

Or is the lack of a mouse the most frustrating part?

Depends on who you ask really. Hardened PC veterans would probably complain over the lack of mouse but in terms of streamlining the gameplay I think the mini-keyboard would probably be the biggest improvement. The most immediate benefit would be far superior grouping options for your units for example.

Wow. I think EA made a big jump from BFME2 to C&C3 with the control scheme.

While it is the same basic principle, the extra tweaks make C&C3 much more responsive. Mainly, I love how I don't have to go into a menu anymore to group units together. Just hold down the A button over your selected units and hit down on the dpad and it groups automatically. Switching groups with the up arrow works well too.

The movement of the cursor is so much better, with the extra pressure added so you can scroll faster. The quick menu system seems to move smoother as well.

Impressed with the tweaked controls.

Frame rate for the game seems much more stable too versus BFME2.

Nice step up EA.

C&C3 plays very well with the controller. Not as efficient as a mouse and key, but I dose what its supposed to very well.

But I am kind of surprised over the frame rate issues when there are 10+ units on the screen. I play C&C on my computer with all settings maxed and it never slows down.

Going to pick it up... A big screen and surround sound still beats the PC.

Not-so-quick observations on C&C3 demo:

The single-player stuff was laughably simple.

For the first mission I was trying to figure out how to get my base to construct a War Factory, until I realized that the misssion just wanted me to go balls-out with my infantry. After I destroyed ONE Nod power plant with attack planes, a lady popped up on screen and said "Their base is too big - we're going to let you use the UBER SATELLITE LASER CANNON OF DEATH now! Fire at will!" Mission over. WTF?

Second mission didn't have any uber-death cannon, but it finally unlocked the ability to construct a War Factory (GO GO MAMMOTH TANKS). I started building the tanks to fend off attackers, then arbitrarily decided to have them attack the enemy base. It only took 3 Mammoth Tanks to completely steamroll the Nod. I was all like "Oh, I see - this game is over now!"

Sure enough, multiplayer was a far cry from this. Within 5 minutes, my opponent snuck an engineer into my base without any resistance and destroyed the main structure... then we had about 15 minutes worth of Mammoth Tank battles before he put me out of my misery.

The controls worked fine for me, but I had to crank my TV's brightness up to MAX just to be able to see what was going on (there's no Options selection on the game's main menu). The text and icons were also generally just way too small to make out from a reasonable distance. Needless to say, I wish I had been playing on my PC monitor 2 feet in front of me.

Graphics are... admirable. Nothing made me say wow, but nothing disgusted me either.

... Did the Battlestar Galactica chick have a unibrow? Blech.

I haven't played the campaign yet on the demo (only had time for the tutorial), but aren't there two BSG chicks---Grace Park and Tricia Helfer? I seem to recall seeing that on xplay. Weird seeing live-action video in a game again. It's been awhile.

BTW, you're still not forgiven for that shit you pulled earlier in the Crackdown thread.

I enjoyed the demo first time around, will try it out again later. Downloaded it in about 40 minutes or so and graphically it seems pretty robust (relatively smooth framerate). But man, does it have a lot of screen tearing, though hardly as bad as Saint's Row and Splinter Cell. Might get the game regardless, but I hope EA fixes this a bit come release.

I really liked the C&C demo. The game seems like a big step up from LOTR both graphically (no more flickery shadows...yeah!) and control wise. The mapped commands are much more streamlined than before and it really helps the game flow naturally. Pretty impressive actually. I might actually pick this one up.

I suppose if you got to play a RTS with a controller, this is as good as you could possibly hope for.

Man I've put hours into the demo online but it does have one big issue.

The demo is limited to no invites just jumping and play whoever, this is leading to a lot of people just trying to jojn there freinds over and over again by starting at the same time and then quiting when you start a game with them boo! :(

Another thing is when I'm using my Ninja Quick Chess like mind to destroy people they quit the game DOUBLE BOO! :(

midway told us today that a demo for Hour of Victory will come mid - end of may. its not decided if its a single or multi demo. hope this info is new :D

Hehe the same thing happened with BFME2
