Xbox 360 Live demo availability thread

Gears does it a lot better, even though they run on the same engine. For example you can see rain streaming down the trees in Gears. In Blacksite the trees just look like they are covered in glue.

They game doesn't seem to bring anything new to the table (hard to tell from a 3 minute demo) and feels like a poor man's Resistance/Half-Life 2. Very unpolished. I don't remember the release date for this game, but if they want it to sell they better release it long before Halo 3.

Look at the side of some building in Blacksite and you'll see the water running down it.

That's correct, I'm just saying the visuals are very inconsistent, much more so than Gears. The wall of the gas station has water running down it, but the ground beneath the wall if dry as a bone. The game has good graphics from a technical perspective, it's just kinda half-assed. The bare-minimum of a working next gen FPS. I can't say for sure if that holds true for the gameplay, but I wouldn't be surprised.

I think that statement is a bit presumptuous. That is unless you are an expert on programming the UE3 engine or were a lead developer on Gears of War. If you are, my bad.....carry on with broad assumptions and blanket statements.

Name: Pirates of the Caribbean: At World's End Demo
Price: Free
Availability: Not available in Asia, Canada, Mexico or the U.S.

What would you do? What would any of you be willing to do? Would you brave the weird and haunted blades of the UK marketplace to fetch a demo of witty Jack?

Fine, I'll try to better articulate my point. I'm not ragging on the developers, I'm sure they are trying their hardest to make a great, beautiful game. But the game clearly doesn't have the budget or production values of game like Gears, HL2, or Resistance, and it shows. The UE3 engine clearly isn't used being close it to its potential (optimization issues aside), which I'm sure is due party to the developers lack of experience with it. The level design is extremely limiting, with any exploration or alternate routes being blocked by debris or invisible walls. The squad AI might even be dumber than Dom, if that is possible.

Long story short, this is a middle of the road FPS from a middle of the road team, comparable to games like Area 51 (Xbox), Pariah, Prey, etc. A certain group of gamers will enjoy it for a couple of weeks, but the rest of the world will quickly forget it exists (or not even notice it was released) just like they did with the aforementioned titles. If you loved the demo, by all means buy the game for $60. If you pass on the game, however, my impression is you won't be missing out on much.

Don't talk smack about my home marketplace yo.

I'm pleasantly surprised by the visual side of Pirates. And gameplay wise it could be one of the better movie-to-game titles.

According to Finnish Pelaajalehti Midway's Hour of Victory demo is coming at the end of the month. Demo includes all three characters: commando, ranger and the covert operative.

The Pirates of the Caribbean demo is up for download for the US marketplace. Not a bad game, the graphics are great and the gameplay is good too. I don't know about the complaints about this game.

Just finished it. The gameplay is boring and the graphics get worse... At the most a rent.

Anyone manage to complete the Hour of Victory download? Lots of trouble here.

Ha, came into this thread to post the same thing. Mine either stops at 15%, or if I restart the dl it'll shoot up to 98% at insanely fast speeds and stop. Very weird.

I started downloading it last night and just finished downloading it now, and I'm playing the demo right now. The download last night was going really slow, but now it went super fast.

PotC was cool...I would pay $20 for the full game

EDIT: Its 2007, walking through doors!?...real minor, but cmon now, how many KB would it take to animate a door opening and closing, oh well

It's in English with the option for Japanese.

Thank you Cipher!

I love playing a JP demo and having everyone on my friends list message me saying WHERE DID YOU GET THAT?!?

edit: Wow, this is pretty cool so far. Nice rain effects. Everything is really sharp and clean looking... better graphics than I was expecting.

Tenchu Z demo is up for North America and Europe, but if it's anything like the Japanese one it's pretty much awful.

I just got done playing it, and it does indeed suck.

Graphics are also really awful for a 360 game, and the sword fighting and camera are a mess.

YYYYEAH!!!
*BEWN BAUWNNN*

Please someone play, I've been stuck waiting forever!

From the half a tutorial I did, I really liked the gliding and teleport, could be interesting.

the Shadowrun demo is kinda cool, some really REALLY dumb choices in it, but it can be fun.

it does force teamwork, which is good. Before I used the Tree and the Revive powers, my team would be f'ed up, but as soon as I became the medic guy, my team won every match after that. The only problem is having 2 guys bound by your life makes you not want to get into combat and stops you from using powers.

I only played about 3-5 matches and the tutorials so far.

oh, and before you play a game or anything, change the aiming sensitivity, they put it on 2 at the start and at 4 it is almost like the default for Halo.

Vampire Rain's demo is funny. I picked one stage and I wandered past a couple of normal looking guys.

"Hey what's that?"

ALL OF A SUDDEN THEY TRIPLE IN SIZE AND KILL ME INSTANTLY!
(Dude seriously it was really scary. they like turned into vampires instantly)

I don't even know why they bothered giving me a lifebar. :lol
Anyway I trashed it shortly afterwards. Though I did enjoy the Sam Fisher clone for a minute or two.

Ugly and really frustrating, no thanks.

The Tenchu Z demo really sucks. The controls are lousy and I would think after the greatness that is Shinobido, From would consider improving the controls(why can't I use the grappling hook while jumping? why can't I run? why does jumping still suck? wtf?) and adding some freaking physics but NOPE. Unless in the full-game I can access some better moves(and some more interesting kills wtf?) I'm definitely skipping(Also doesn't help that pretty much every girl in the create a character mode is UGLY holy crap the modelers should be fired and pushed off a bridge into goatse).

Also last night I had a dream about Bill Murray. He was having sex with all these women and I swear I saw his penis.

Downloading the Shadowrun demo now....
