Xbox 360 Live demo availability thread

Cool, a Ratatouille demo. Now I will find out if this game is worth printing a free Blockbuster rental coupon.

the first one was funny and quirky, the rest of them are just overstaying their welcome. I've had my fun from Katamari, i don't need to do the same thing over and over again for more money.

You're basing your opinion of past games on a four minute demo? I'm not saying BK is going to push the Katamari envelope (as we all know it will not), but the Katamari Damacy is one the most inventive and original games I've ever played. I guess this isn't the right thread for this argument, though.

Just the whole idea; a third person shooter with a score on it, and you have to get kills in quick sucession to add to your multiplyer, learn every level for the perfect line. Those who have OCD about getting high scores in racing games or Tony Hawk or Geometry wars will go insane for this game.

Also, the graphics are really freaking good.
So which game do you think you will be playing the most, The Club or Stranglehold?

Can someone explain to me what the hell I'm supposed to be doing it Katamari?

So, you have to hold both analogue sticks in the direction you want to roll the ball, right? And then loads of stuff gets stuck to the ball.

But, what's the point in that? Am I supposed to be picking up certain objects? Or what? It doesn't tell you what the point is or what your objective is. And I've not played a Katamari game before.

You can pick up nearly every object, but only once your ball is big enough. So, at first you will be picking up small things that can fit on your ball, then once your ball gets big enough, it will do this cool growing thing, and this allows you to go and grab bigger things. (Damn beaten, might still be useful though) This keeps on going until you can get houses and such (or so I believe). This is my first Katamari game too, I liked the demo, think I might rent the full game.

And, then...?

What's the objective? How do you 'win'? Or is it a score beating compeition like Geometry Wars?

I'm really failing to see the point of this game :S

You have to get your Katamari to a certain size within the time limit.

Ahh now I get it!

Nope. This is the first time a game has been completely lost on me.

Oh actually, I think we're getting somewhere now. So, you have to get it to a certain size within the time limit to progress to the next level?? Is that the objective? If so, it's all starting to make sense. I take it there are varying environments?

Yes, that's exactly it. And you can go back and revisit levels to get better scores (read: bigger diameters). Certain stages require you to only roll up one type of thing, of course, these stages are usually massively populated by different versions of that thing.
There are varying environments, sort of. You start to realize that you're rolling up things in the same environment, only on much different scales. While you may start out rolling up stuff on top of a table, another stage has you rolling stuff in a house, which has that table in it, another stage has you rolling up stuff in a park, which is in the same town as the house, while yet another stage has you rolling up the house and the park themselves.

Someone mentioned above that you get big enough to roll up houses...this is true, but you get bigger. Much, much bigger. Much.

Hmm, I guess the demo failed in that aspect...there is an objective in Katamari but I don't think there is one in the demo. The game is mostly just a chill game anyway, sit back and relax type of game. In the other games, you had to roll the Katamari to a certain size within a time limit. In order to be successful, you would have to prioritize which items to roll over and build your Katamari large enough to amass bigger objects. In the 2nd one, the objectives got a bit more varied, like racing around a track with a non-stop Katamari. But still, the game overall is suppose to be easy and relaxing.

Nothing was better than building the moon in the first Katamari. Starting off collecting stuff as small as dice and thumbtacks to the point where you get so big that you were wrapping up continents, weather systems, etc. Really cool little game.

Of course if you've never play Katamari, the demo doesn't show anything at all. I don't know why they didn't have one full level with objectives. That 3 minute pointless meandering demo probably did more harm than good.

the beautiful katamari demo was shit. am i crazy, or did the cleaned up textures and framerate make the game look like wacky dog shit?

if you base your opinion of katamari solely on that demo, may god have mercy on your poor soul

The demo really needed more levels. Just that one level alone isn't good enough. Or it needed to be longer, long enough to appreciate how awesome it is when you build a Katamari that's big enough to engulf entire islands

But then why would anyone buy the game?

The demo doesn't necessarily have to have more levels (although that'd be greatly appreciated :p) but it needed to have at least one FULL level. I'm not sure what I'd think about Katamari if I played that demo and didn't have any previous experience with the other games in the series.

I will admit that the BK demo is pretty retarded. I mean, I would imagine a lot of the people downloading it have never played a Katamari game before, so why do they give them a 3 minute demo that would only feel at home to people familiar with the series? It's a nice way for Katamari fans to see what the game will look and play like on the 360, but for swaying new people, it's awful.

EDIT: Pretty much exactly what Hilter Stole My Potato said.

Surprisingly, and never having playing any Katamari Damacy game before this one, I'm really enjoying the demo. In fact, after playing several times in a row I'm able to get a 5m diameter now! :D It's simple, yet adictive to plan your route to maximize your size.

you'd think it's garbage.

I loved the Katamari demo, but then again, I've played all of them. I only own the one for PSP though.

Atleast the framerate is good! :lol

Beautiful Katamari has me replaying Katamari Damacy and appreciating how much better KD1 is over all the other KD games combined.

I actually preferred the second one myself. Felt like a bigger game.

I'm definitely not paying full price for this one at all. Still haven't even got around to playing the PSP one sitting on my shelf.

I did appreciate the solid framerate however.

I really loved the demos of Beautiful Katamari Stranglehold and bioshock. Plus I was really surprised with Ace combat 6 man that game looks good, totally love it.

I don't see the hate with Beautiful Katamari try playing it on the PSP (my thumb hurts :( ). Online Katamari with leaderboards ahhh that's enough for me.

I never understood people's technical complaints about Beautiful Katamari other than it looking just like its PS2 counterpart. All the bitching about the supposed framerate problem, b-team graphic design, or "unresponsive controls".....I'm honestly not seeing it. It's Katamari - the same as it always was.

Beautiful Katamari has framerate problems? Isn't this the first time Katamari runs at 60 FPS? At least it looked like 60 FPS when I played the demo.

It was on and off. Looked hot when it was though.

I saw some very, very minor slowdown at one of the starting points. But Hitler is right, if I hadn't seen the controller and the fact it was in 16:9 you could swear it's on PS2. It's the same game, I can't see what people are complaining about.
